Hello everyone. My name is Ciarán and I am the new Easy English co-producer. We are here
in Manchester and we're going to be asking some of the locals what they like about this
city. Let's go.
Do you like Manchester?
Do I like Manchester? Of course I like Manchester.
What do you like about it?
I like the people. I think everyone's mixed, everyone's multicultural, I think everyone
gets along.
Do you like Manchester?
Very much, yes.
What do you like about it?
Well, from a personal point of view, I love its history, I love what it stands for. It's
a very cosmopolitan city, has a long history of liberalism and free thought. It's actually
one of the homes of the anti-slavery movement, free trade movement, suffragette movement,
you name it, they've come through here and I think that's really, really cool.
Yes, I like the people in Manchester.
Any particular people that you like?
Any particular people? Nice people, that's what I like. Everyone here seems to be friendly.
You get a couple of strange people, a couple of weirdos here and there, that's everywhere
you get me. But when you look under the surface, I think everyone's nice.
Yes, I think it's a great city. I think it's got a lot of varied lifestyle and different
thoughts.
Yes, and what do you like about it in particular?
I think it's a good sort of mash-up city compared to somewhere like Liverpool, which I'd love
to live in a place, but it's more of a different background city, so it's not just a vague
up-and-down place, it's got a big mash-up of different lives.
Yes, and do you live here in Manchester?
Yes, I live in City Centre.
And how long have you been living here?
I've lived here for four years now, I think.
Four years, yes, and are you going to continue living here in the future?
Yes, for the foreseeable future I am, yes.
Okay, great, thank you.
Do you like Manchester?
I love Manchester.
And what do you like about it?
It's very diverse, there's lots of things to do, lots of things to see, like today there
was lots of entertainment and lots of shops.
Okay, and do you live here in Manchester?
I don't, we live in Oldham, actually.
And do you come here often?
We do, yes, as often as we can, but we've got three children, so it can be a bit difficult
because weekends are usually tied up doing other things.
Do you like Manchester?
Yes.
What do you like about it?
Loads of McDonald's.
Do you like Manchester?
Yes, I love it.
And what do you like about it?
Driving, everything going on, plenty going on, come down and do nothing, have a cup of
coffee, there's always plenty of atmosphere.
And how often do you come to Manchester?
Two times a week.
At least.
Two to three times a week?
At least.
Yeah, do you like Manchester as well?
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Just moved here, well, two years ago.
Two years ago.
What a difference.
Yeah, what a difference.
I love it.
Where did you come from before?
Blackburn.
So, is it a big difference?
Oh, God, yeah.
Extraordinary difference.
Lovely.
OK.
The transport, everything.
Yeah.
The transport, getting about the media city now.
Oh, are you?
Parking traffic centre.
Yeah.
Everything's so easy to get about.
Oh.
All the transport systems.
Amazing.
Yeah.
Do you live in Manchester?
I do, yes.
And how long have you lived here?
My entire life, born and bred.
Right, OK.
And could you describe to me, like, the nightlife or just the city in general, what you like
doing on a day-to-day basis?
Well, I'm not working.
I actually like just walking around the city centre.
I think it's, you know, a very vibrant city, full of life, lots of interesting people to
watch.
Social life just keeps getting better and better as each year goes by.
It's been a little while since I was at university, but it just keeps getting more and more.
There's more clubs, more bars, more people.
And, yeah, I just think it's a really vibrant place.
What do you like about Manchester?
It's big.
There's lots of people and lots of independent shops.
OK.
And do you live in Manchester?
No.
Where do you come from?
Leeds.
And how often do you come to Manchester?
Probably every couple of months.
Yeah.
And do you come for shopping or...?
Yeah.
And have you ever been here, like, as a nightlife or anything like that?
Yes, we've stayed at Malmaison a couple of times.
Yeah.
And was it nice?
Yeah, very nice.
Do you like Manchester?
Yes, I do like Manchester.
And what do you like about it?
I think it's got a good mix of nightlife and a good mix of the people.
Yeah.
And do you work in Manchester?
I do, yes.
Yeah.
And what do you do in Manchester?
I work at the town hall here.
I'm on the inquiry desk.
I've worked for the city council for 34 years, but for the last 25, I've worked in transport.
So you know Manchester very well, then?
Yes.
Okay.
Oh, yeah, favourite bit of Manchester?
I would have to say the city centre.
City centre?
Yeah, yeah.
Anywhere in particular in the city centre?
Just around this area.
Do you like Manchester?
Yeah, it's quite nice.
And what do you like about it?
I like the action.
Everything's outside your doorstep.
You've got gyms, shops, bars, apartments.
It's quite nice.
And do you live in Manchester?
Yeah, I just live in an apartment down in Castlefield, so it's quite close to work.
It's nice.
Yeah.
So do you like Manchester?
Yeah.
And would you spend the rest of your life here?
No.
No, it'd be too long to stay in one place, I think.
Yeah.
I don't know where I'd want to go to, but just move on in 10 years, maybe.
And do you like the changes that are happening with the Metrolink and stuff like that?
I don't really use it, to be honest with you.
I live in town, just stay in town, then get a train to another city if necessary.
So you can just walk, basically?
Yeah.
Yeah, OK.
I think, yeah.
How's the nightlife?
Yeah, it's quite nice.
It's got a nice few bars.
I mean, some of the clubs are a bit, I don't know, but, you know, it's all good.
I think it's more, there's much more to it than Oldham town centre.
Yeah.
So we come up here and always stop at somebody and always listen to the singers.
Yeah.
You know, it's very good.
The big wheel.
Yeah, the big wheel.
So we're just taking a few minutes out at the minute.
Right, thank you very much for your time.
