In Meru National Park, Kenya, elephants and giraffes are under terrible threat.
Majestic elephants poached for their ivory. Gentle giraffes killed for their meat and skins… Africa’s giant herbivores need our help more than ever.
Across Africa, one elephant is slaughtered every 15 minutes, that’s at least 35,000 elephants every year. Close-knit families are decimated, leaving traumatised elephant friends, family and orphaned young.
Giraffes also suffer at the hands of people who value their skin and body parts over a beautiful, sentient, living animal. In the last 30 years, numbers have dropped by 40% in the wild. Beyond belief.

If I could choose somewhere in the world to go back now I would choose
Meru National Park and I have such an amazing memory
of going there with Joy Adamson herself in 1965
on my own with her once I'd finished working on the film Born Free. I shall
never forget it. We, Born Free, have a new project
saving Meru's giants. Giants like elephants and giraffe
and working with our colleagues and friends at the Kenya Wildlife Service
KWS we're going to try and stop poaching
we're going to try and stop snaring and we're going to try and encourage
local communities to live in harmony with those amazing species. It's a big
task. We're going to need your help. So here
are some examples of where your money can make a
difference. £10 could buy a first aid kit for our
£50 could buy them a pair of binoculars
£200 could install a beehive fence to protect crops from raiding elephants
and £1,500 would pay for all the operating costs of our entire
tweeger team including their car for a whole
month. Magical Meru. It's where Elsa the Llanus
was released into the wild where she had her cubs and where she
found her new spirit.
