In today's video, we're going to be interviewing Wakaigo,
and she was able to land a job in tech sales after finding one of my videos.
She works full time.
She's a mom.
She has a family and she's very busy.
And yet she was still able to land a job in a month and a half.
So I think you're really going to enjoy this interview.
And the YouTube algorithm doesn't really like videos like this
for some reason, like interviews.
But if you enjoy videos like this, go ahead and let me know
by gently tapping that like button and let's jump into it.
All right. Wakaigo, thank you so much for coming on the channel.
This is really exciting for me because we just started talking about,
you know, tech sales and course careers recently,
and we're already having people graduating from it
that that found it through my channel left and right.
So you're the first person I'm interviewing.
So thanks so much for coming on today. I really appreciate it.
Awesome. Thank you for having me, Shane.
It's a pleasure to be here. Thank you.
Awesome. So let's just kind of start from the beginning.
You can kind of just give a brief background,
whatever you're comfortable sharing about yourself
and your professional career.
And then we can talk about kind of like how you found textiles.
Gotcha. Sounds good.
Well, hi, everyone. Wakaigo.
And my background is in tech.
I started off as a manual QA tester, a software tester.
And I did that for a little over a year and a half.
And I realized, like, hey, I don't like it as much
like the technical part of tech.
I still wanted to stay in tech.
And so I just started doing my research to see what else is out there
that I can do within tech and is more personable, per se.
And I also have a degree in business administration and management.
And that's a little about me.
Awesome. OK, so you were kind of you kind of told me
you were in a position where, you know, it's pretty good,
but it just wasn't the best fit for your personality.
So you're kind of looking for something
that was a little better for your personality.
And then you were kind of browsing YouTube one night
and you happened to stumble upon a video.
And can you kind of talk about that
and just your your experience learning about textiles?
Yes, definitely.
So I was just browsing through YouTube, as you mentioned, Shane,
and I'm subscribed to your channel.
So I was just like, OK, let's see what Shane has uploaded.
He has great videos, always giving out great advice
about like degrees and careers and just things that will help
every person in a different way, whatever suits your personality.
And so I came across your video that was talking about careers
that that's are in tech, but are not technical.
And I was like, perfect.
So I watched the entire video and it was an interview you did
with the founder of Course Careers, the course that I took, Troy.
And at the bottom of the video with the details and everything,
you had like the link to, hey, go check it out, see the free intro video
and see if it's something you're interested in.
So that was around like midnight when I started watching the interview.
And after I was done, I clicked on the link that you provided
and I watched the whole intro course that Troy has for Course Careers.
And I did that at like two in the morning, finished everything at like six a.m.
And I was just like, you know what, this is perfect.
And I signed up immediately.
Yeah. You didn't waste any time at all.
No, you signed up with them right away.
Yeah, that's awesome.
Hey, you know what?
Taking action is is a really good trait.
People who take action a lot of the time that can be,
you know, it can be a really good idea to do that.
So you kind of like you clicked on the free course, which, by the way,
you guys want the free training.
It'll kind of teach you about what tech sales is, what to expect,
whether it's a good fit for your personality and all that sort of thing.
I'll put that down in the description as well as the pen comment below.
Definitely check that out.
And if you choose to use the advanced training where, you know,
they they'll give you a community
advanced training as well as get you guaranteed interviews with companies.
I do have a coupon code, Shane, if you'll put that down below as well.
But you you decided to enroll in the course
and how was the course?
Can you kind of just maybe give a little bit of an overview of it
and kind of how your experience was with it?
Yes, the course was amazing.
Honestly, it was amazing.
You have a community of people checking on you every day.
You get to talk to the founder.
It's not like the regular courses where you buy it and you just have instructors.
The actual founder, like he's in our discord.
He talks to us. He helps us, gives us pointers.
You get to like do mock interviews with him and of course, careers team.
And you have like a community of over 100 people each and every day
that keeps you accountable and checks in on you.
And we have like specific groups that you're going to be assigned to
that also helps you keep you accountable.
And in general, the course itself, it breaks everything down
from the basics of sales, what you need to know as a
like an incoming sales personnel up to like the advanced
interview helps you with your resume and just tips about how to go about
just getting yourself prepared to transition into this new career.
The course has it all. Literally. Awesome.
So how long exactly did it take you to get through the course again?
It took me a month. I was full time.
It took me a month and a day.
I signed up July 28 of 2022
and was officially done with everything August 29 of 2022.
Got it. Got it.
And then once you finish the course, you got the certificate.
How long was it until you got your first job offer?
It took me two weeks.
I got my job offer within two weeks of finishing.
Got it. So just to clarify, from the time you started the course
to the time you finished, it was approximately about a month and a half.
Sorry. The time you started the course to the time you got your first job
offer was approximately a month and a half or so.
Yes. OK, that's awesome.
That's that's that's amazing.
Yeah. Troy does it again.
So, OK, awesome.
Well, one thing I know a lot of people do want to hear about is is the salary.
So whatever you're kind of comfortable sharing in terms of the salary,
I know for Texas, it's a little weird because you have kind of like a base
salary and then you have like the on target earnings.
But, you know, either, you know, what was your first offer
or kind of like what would people expect?
Yes. Yeah, of course, careers advertise a 60K like your average minimum.
And I got a little more than that as my total compensation.
And I can make anywhere within my first year, depending on how hard I work.
I can make up to six figures.
Yes. But definitely I was offered a little over that 60K
that course careers advertised.
So, yeah, that's awesome.
Dang. Yeah.
With the possibility of getting up to six figures in your first.
Exactly. That's that's incredible.
That's incredible.
So what would you say in terms of personality?
I like asking this question because, you know, when people think of a sales job,
they think of pushy car salesmen or like somebody who tries to sell you,
you know, some stuff you don't need for your phone, like a phone salesman
or, you know, something like that.
So personality wise, what kind of people do you think
tend to do well in tech sales?
Honestly, I think it's for both extroverts and introverts.
Me personally, I'm an introvert, but I come off as an extrovert.
But deep down, I'm an introvert.
So it works for either personality type.
You just have to be a good listener.
And course careers teaches you everything you need to know in all honesty.
So anybody can get into sales.
It's just be a good listener or have great communication skills,
interpersonal skills, and you're going to do well.
Everything else will teach you.
Course careers is going to teach you and also on the job.
Yeah. Yeah.
And I'll just kind of add to that.
Like, I definitely consider myself to be an introvert as well.
And the sales job I had was my favorite job I've ever had.
Like it was my favorite job ever.
And so, yeah, you definitely don't have to be an extrovert,
especially if it's the type of sales job
where you're working with people kind of like one on one.
Yeah. You know, any introvert can can learn to talk to somebody one on one.
I think like for me personally,
what I have issues with is talking to like big groups of people.
As an introvert, I don't really like that.
But one on one, it's not that bad.
It's definitely something.
And a lot of people have even told me that introverts even excel.
Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Tech sales positions. So, yeah.
So what would you say to somebody who is kind of on the fence?
You know, they're thinking about
going with course careers, getting into tech sales, but they're not sure.
What would you say to that person?
I would say go for it.
Like you honestly have nothing to lose.
You're going to learn a great skill set that if it doesn't work out for you
and you choose like, hey, this is the path for me.
At least you learn something.
And what I learned throughout, like on course careers and just in life
in general, as long as you know how to sell yourself,
you're never going to go hungry.
Everything in life literally sells everything.
If you think about it, you're buying a new phone.
Someone is selling it to you.
You want a new car?
They're selling it to your home.
The things you eat each day, average you see it sells.
So if you know how to sell and you have that great communication skill,
you're not going to go hungry.
And it's a skill set you get to keep.
And nobody takes that away from you.
Yeah, I totally agree with you.
And that's one of the things is like one of the reasons I talk about,
like, you know, sales and then marketing is because those are two skills
that no matter what you end up doing in your life, they're going to help you.
Like it literally like doesn't matter what path you've gone out in life,
like marketing skills and sales skills are going to help you out
no matter what, you know, like I don't it.
I have not met a single person who regretted like learning sales or marketing.
Right. Like I don't think I've met a single person who's ever told me,
yeah, I didn't want to do that.
That was actually a bad experience.
Like even if you decide, you know, hey, sales is not for me later on.
It's still the skills that you learn from it are going to help you so much
in other areas, whether it's getting another job or whether it's like trying
to, you know, rise up the corporate ladder or start your own business, freelancing,
anything that's going to help you or just with your communication in life,
because it teaches you how to listen, understand the other person's
wants, needs, concerns, et cetera, and then address those,
you know, effectively.
So, yeah, 100 percent agree with you there for sure.
I recommend course careers like literally it is changing lives literally.
And we course careers, we advertise a 60 K minimum.
There's past students that made 70 K, 75 K, 85 K.
There's also a young lady that made like she started off at 100 K
and going up.
So course careers literally is changing lives.
Just put in the work, learn the material.
Everything is in there that's going to help you.
If I can do it in a month and a half and I have a family,
I have a husband and two sons, you guys can do it too.
Trust me. Yeah.
And a full time job, right?
You were working full time. Yeah.
Yeah. You did it a month and a half.
I mean, yeah, that's impressive.
I got to give it to you.
Like I know it's like course careers is awesome.
But hey, you got to give yourself credit, too.
That's really impressive what you did there.
So, yeah. Well, hey, thank you so much for coming on the channel.
And good luck starting a new job and, you know, just
really getting into it and, you know, hitting that 100 K mark the first year.
And maybe I'll bring you back on the channel here in a year.
So see how you're doing. Exactly. That'd be awesome.
Thank you for having me, Shane.
And thank you for the link and everything you do.
It helped change my life, too. So thank you. You're part of it.
Hey, I appreciate it. Thank you so much.
Well, Kago, have a good one. You too. Thank you all.
