So I guess it's been a while since I last uploaded, but I've got a good reason. I got pretty caught up
with my personal hovercraft deca-copter project. It has so many names at this point, but basically
person stands on platform plus propellers equals flying. Hopefully. And uh, spoiler alert, it can
it can lift my weight now. Still got to do a bit of testing though before I drop that video,
but if I piqued your interest, maybe subscribe and watch my previous videos so you're all caught up.
But let's see what we can make in the meantime. Let's see, last project I did. Oh yeah, the
flamethrower hidden blade Air Force Ones. How could I forget? Wow, I love this job. Okay,
top comment on that vid. Let's see. Diego says, can we appreciate he didn't use tape to paint
the shoes? You know what? Thank you. Actually, now that you mentioned that, that's a way better idea.
Probably should have, probably should have done that. Whatever, I'll take it. Also,
apparently I look like Kendall from Big Time Rush. All right, project ideas. Ah, here we go.
Ooh, that sounds fun. Before I make this though, you already know the drill. Please go leave a
comment for what I should make next, or at least just like an idea that's down there. Like that's
how this series works. I think it's perfect because this way I know exactly what you guys want to see.
It's funny how comments have such a bad rep on YouTube. Like most of the top YouTubers just hate
them. Like bro, that's how you connect with your people. So yeah, make sure you guys do that,
really helps out. This idea is actually pretty perfect because a lot of you guys asked for this
on my Instagram as well. Come on Jake, you're better than that. Speaking of Instagram and like
connecting with you guys, here's some projects that you guys built and sent to me on Instagram.
Check them out. Definitely keep it up guys. I know times are tough right now. You're probably
going a little crazy, being all cooped up inside, but I hope you guys are using this time to do
something you wouldn't normally do that makes you happy. Try new things, explore stuff. I don't want
to get too motivational, but if you want to build some cool projects, send them my way on Instagram
and I'll feature them. All right, so this build sounds simple at first. All we needed is some
Air Force Ones and some wheels. Smash them together. Maybe add an electric motor. Boom,
next project. Well, that's actually just roller skates and as my mom informed me,
those already exist and apparently they were quite cool back in the day. So what if we wanted
the more like hybrid design? What if we took like one wheel and put it in the heel of a shoe?
We could call them wheel heels or like Heelys for short. Why does everything cool already exist?
Do you guys actually remember wearing those things? I think it was like third grade for me. Brought
that to my school though. Tearing that playground up. Not a true third grader until you've ripped
the slide of Heelys. Are they still a thing now? How old are you guys? Y'all third graders? Anyone
my age out there? Quick test. What is this? All right, if you owned one, you can keep watching.
So if we can't do Heelys, let's take it to the next level and do one of the things I do best.
Make stuff retractable. Make roller skates that have the pop out skates come right out of the
bottom. This proved to be harder than I thought. Basically because we need to fit both the wheels
and the mechanism to deploy the wheels all inside a sole of a shoe. Not exactly a ton of room to
work with. I'm like a pretty dense guy. So these wheels need to be pretty strong. Lucky the Air
Force Ones have a decently large sole. So, you know, that helps a little bit. Big sole. I did a
bunch of work trying to like design a mechanism that would fold up these wheels. But I don't
really have like metal working tools. So it was a bit of a standstill until I went on eBay. Found
out they already freaking make pop out roller skates. Did you guys know that? Like it'd be
really stupid for me not to use these. Other ones I found were for kids. They're like 30 bucks.
Let's check to see how much adult ones cost. They're like $200 if you want to ship to you in
any like reasonable time frame. Alright, now we got a video. First, we can make these shoes look
way better. I.e. put them in custom Air Force Ones. Second, we can do it much cheaper and see.
I thought, why should kids have all the fun? So I ordered the $30 kid roller skates and they
showed up in four days. So we ripped apart the shoe and then we were left with the swivel out
wheel mechanism. Now actually going with the kids shoes might have been the right call because the
mechanism is much smaller so that means we can more easily fit it into the shoes. It took a bit
of finessing but I was able to cut a hole in the sole of the shoes just big enough for the mechanism
to slip in. Then because we got the smaller kids shoes, I was actually able to keep the wheels
hidden on the outside of the shoe. Still had to cut away the inner side though. You know, who cares?
That's way less noticeable. There's also like a nice little lip on the wheel mechanism. So I was
able to put some screws through that right into the sole of the shoe. No problem. Another cool
thing is that these deploy by pressing the button on the back. On the roller skates, they have this
button on the back that protrudes out but because I got the small versions, the entire button could
fit inside the shoe. So there's no button protruding out. All you got to do is kick the heel, wheels
deploy. Super incognito. So these are almost there but one issue is the mechanism actually protrudes
too far out from the bottom of the shoe. This made it kind of hard to walk. So I ended up adding a
layer of foam inside the shoe to essentially like thicken the sole, bring the mechanism flush with
the bottom of the shoe. Now all the bottom of the shoe touches the ground and we can walk pretty
normally. It is a little bit more snug now because we had to cut into the bottom space of the shoe
but if we just loosen the laces up a little bit and break in the shoe, it's not too bad. So we did
the same thing to the other shoe and now we got ourselves some pop-out Air Force One roller skates.
Will they hold my weight? Not sure yet. We'll find out. We're not stopping here. You know it's 2020.
I'm not about to go manually skate around. Let's add motors. Now I thought about this problem for a
while. Like how do I fit tiny little motors that are strong enough to move me on an already crowded
shoe bottom? And the answer is I don't have a good one yet but I do have an idea for the meantime.
I'm gonna use a drill motor attached to a wheel mechanism. 3D print some parts so we have the
motor strapped to my calf and have the motor just pop down whenever we need it. I ended up using a
drawer slide for the pop-down mechanism, a few straps to hold the back of my leg. Then I ran a
wire long enough to go from my ankle to my pocket where I fit the trigger and the battery. So I think
this should work well enough until I figure out a way to actually put the motors inside the shoe
for real. And now it's time to customize them. This is my third pair of shoes I've customized
and I think I'm getting a little bit better each time so hopefully we can top my last design. For
this design like always I want it to relate to what the shoe actually does. In this case wheels
and speed hopefully. So I hopped on Instagram and asked you guys for a little input. Once again hit
me with that follow if you want to help me out with projects like this. I got some good suggestions.
You guys said to do car themes. I thought about doing like a Tesla theme. You know electric wheels.
But honestly Tesla's are pretty plain like in the design sense. It's not a lot we can do besides just
throw a big like T logo on the front. Then I was thinking maybe we'll add like wheels above the
Nike swish to sort of make it look like the wheels peeling out. But I couldn't really get it to look
good. So eventually I settled on this sort of streak design. It looks pretty fast in my opinion.
Then I added a glitch effect to give it that sort of electric vibe. Now the trick is to actually draw
slash paint these on the shoes. Let's give it a shot. There we have it. Custom glitch retractable
Air Force One skates with an electric motor sprinkled on the side. To use these all we got
to do is kick the heel and the wheels pop out. Super seamless. They're a little bit unstable but
I've also never rollerbladed before. So honestly not too bad. Get them back in it's the same process
just kick the heels and stamp on the wheels and they'll retract right back up. You can walk around
and I'm pretty normal too. A little bit clunky and loud I'll give you that. But I mean like what do
you expect? Honestly pretty incognito for the most part. And unlike the original roller skates I would
actually wear these around. Pretty happy with how this glitch design came out. Did you guys wear these?
I mean but I guess it's time to have some fun. Are you tired of walking everywhere? Are you afraid of
robots replacing you because you can't keep up? Loser. Well this probably won't help with the
second thing that's definitely gonna happen but at least you won't have to walk. Try wheel heels
the automatic wheels from your heel. They deploy the wheels with a kick of a heel. There's also a
motor you just strap on your leg and it slides down. Press a button then you're off. Skateboards
don't need them. It's a lot of fun so try wheel heels today.
Hey you want to have a drag race? You want to? What are you chicken? What's wrong with my
chicken? How's walking? I'll see you later. That's way better than walking. Not walking.
Wait a minute. Doc are you telling me it's 8 25? Precisely. Damn I'm late for school.
So I've been practicing my moves with these things and uh as it turns out they can do
something pretty cool. Watch closely though you're gonna miss it. Yeah that was sick. They're like a
pop out wheel. Yeah yeah. No but he made them. There it is guys. Moonwalks across the country.
If you like this video definitely subscribe but I don't need to tell you that. Actually I do have
a confession guys. I uh I didn't actually moonwalk all the way all right. I took a plane but I was
really curious about how security would handle these things so uh here's the footage from that.
All right I'm about to see how these shoes do through security. Fingers crossed.
Shoes made it. Thank you.
Thank you guys very much for watching. We'll catch you in the next one.
