IS NOMAD LIFE FOR HIM What Doug Thinks (SO FAR) of his FULL-TIME RV LIFE! Injuries, Foibles and ...
Well, you've been asking for it and I've heard you. Team Doug! Where's Doug? We want more Doug!
Well, today on an all-new Sunday Morning ViewQ, we're going to answer all your best questions
about his full-time RV life. Happy Sunday, Birdwatchers, and welcome to an all-new Sunday
Morning ViewQ. Now, you guys probably know that I've been living full-time on the road in an RV
for over four years, but my boyfriend Doug has only been doing it for less than one. Next week
is his one-year anniversary living full-time in this rig and we almost can't even believe it.
First thing is that I have to tell you guys that somebody has stolen my identity on YouTube.
Sometimes when you make a comment, you're going to see somebody with my nog on a channel called
Creativity RV that responds to you with a WhatsApp number. I would never leave a WhatsApp
number on YouTube or sell you cryptocurrency or Bitcoin or whatever else these jackwagons are
trying to sell you. Just know that if you see me and my name responding to one of your questions
and it seems real weird, all you have to do is go over to the right-hand side. You'll see three
little dots and report them. Now let's get Doug over here. Everybody, this is Doug. Hello. You
may have seen the video where he burned all of his shirts from his corporate job. That was epic.
We were waiting to do that for years. Years. Years. Every time I saw him in that janky,
dumb corporate shirt, I was like, we got to burn those. Okay, so we're going to get on to
the first question. This one is from Lisa Paul. She says, wouldn't it be fun to juxtapose your
extreme knowledge? I don't know if it's extreme. Honestly, I'm still learning every day. With the
fun, foibles, and hilarity of Doug, the newbie, getting his sea legs, as it were, in the nomad
world. Hashtag team Doug. You know, I've learned a lot. Waking up in a new town, you just get,
you know, comfortable getting your gas and your propane and where to find everything. And then
you just get it all set, all your routes you want to go to. And then you move to a new town
and it's starting all over again. It's just been since the early spring that we've actually been
on the road traveling. And I have to say, he has really taken to it. I'm really proud of you. Thank
you. It's been great. It's been amazing out here. What else have you learned? Things get lost in
here. I don't know how it happens. I've lived in bigger houses and live in smaller spaces.
This is the smallest space I've lived in, but things get lost and never found. I don't understand
how that happens. So I really have to make sure I put it in places I know that I'm going to find it
later on. And also storage. Make sure when you're storing things, put it where it can be accessed
easily, not in the back of the storage. Like what, Doug? Like maybe the tool kit. Or the first aid
kit. For instance. For instance. Not saying that anything like that has ever happened. Never
happened. I have a funny one. Doug had to learn to make sure that the water pump was actually on
before he used the bathroom. Otherwise you get a shark on the beach. Shark on the beach. Not good.
What other foibles come to mind from your first year? One that sticks in my mind is the water
bladder. Various places offer water and you fill it up. And I got in a pretty good routine. I was
filling up the water. Felt pretty comfortable. And then I was leaving the area. Actually I was
getting propane. I already had the water. I was leaving and somehow, I did not check, the tailgate
was open on the back of the truck. I guess you can suppose what happened next. A massive explosion
of water. Yeah. Now I will say it was a pretty cool explosion. I saw it in the rearview mirror.
But that cost me at least $200. Yeah. He came home. He comes up to the door and he was like
something bad happened. And of course I'm thinking he wrecked the truck.
And he said he just wrecked the bag. And I was like well just buy another bag. That sucks.
And the other bummer is I had to go get water again. So that was no fun. That's true. Moving
on to the next question. This one is from Randy Stevens. He said I always picture you at the wheel
but how do you and Doug split the driving time? Doug? Well I have to be honest. I have not driven
the rig yet. He's driven the truck. Yes. But he has yet to hook up that truck to the RV and
actually pull it down a road. Why? Well a couple things. One we haven't had a lot of great straight
away areas for me to feel comfortable pulling this. Monstrosity. This really large rig. Yeah.
And two the winds have been really really strong for a lot of places we've gone around this area.
Yeah. And so I just for those two reasons really I have not. Yeah. You know felt comfortable
taking the reins. And so just so you know you're all safe out there. I have not driven the rig yet
but I do plan to but I will give you plenty of advance notice. Yeah. Although I have not driven
the rig I am learning to be a good co-pilot. He's my Magellan. All right moving on to question
number three. This one is from Laura Phillips. Great info. Nice to see you. Is Doug enjoying
being a nomad? Well that's the most important question. I love being a nomad. It is great. I
am meeting some amazing people. I go out on the road. I see people when I'm getting gas or
propane or filling up the water where I'm not spilling it all over the road. Just amazing
people. And you never know when you're going to start a conversation with somebody and just talk
to them. And everybody's been very friendly. Yes. And I just love the environment. Yeah. I just
really enjoy being out here in the nature and the weather and just everything is amazing. Although
I'm having fun out here on the road that hasn't come without a few injuries. It seemed like the
first two to three months I was on the road I was getting bruised or scratched or cut almost
every day. Well like every hour. Now don't let his talk about injuries fool you because this guy
really took to being a nomad pretty fast. One time you know I'm over here at work and Doug's just
walking around the house in his underwear. Like for hours. Like straight up doing the dishes.
Doing stuff around the house. And I thought he's hot. He's just really comfortable here. And then
Doug said oh my god I forgot to put on my pants. True story. It took me at least a couple hours
to realize that I didn't have my pants on. I just had my boxers on. Quite comfortable. He's totally
comfortable. Okay next question. Texas So's said I can't wait for the video with Doug. With Doug's
point of view or Doug's way or doo-doo with Doug. You mentioned Doug is doing the black tank. I
thought of that. Sorry Doug. Should we tell them about the Camco Save Show? I believe we should.
Okay so when we were boondocking out in the desert in a long-term visitor area
in the California Arizona area. You guys might know that we renovated the entire inside of the
RV. While we were doing that we couldn't put the slides in to take the rig over to dump. So we
decided that we would get what Doug calls a poop case. And you know the poop case holds like what
25 gallons? Yeah tops. Yeah so you put the stuff in it and then you're supposed to put it on the
your truck and wheel it to the dump. So I'll let you take it from there Doug. How'd the doo-doo
with Doug go? Well not so well the first run. We broke the wheel off the poop case. The wheels
literally fell off while we were going to the dump. Yeah it made it there and we're actually
somehow made it back. It didn't go much further after that. We had a blowout. So the poop case
didn't work out too well and we hired a honeypot service. My worst nightmares came true. They came
to clean out our tanks and lo and behold as they're cleaning out the tanks there was a hole
in the hose. An eruption. An eruption. Not our hose. It reminded me of being at a wedding when
you have the chocolate fountain but a little different. I will say the driver, I was very calm,
went into his truck got some duct tape or some some sealing tape and as it was doing
his thing coming out of the hose he was taping up the hose trying to repair the situation.
Otherwise he's done really great with the tank. I mean we boondock so we have to hook up on the
fly and at a rest area or at a dump station and no big deal he's a champ. Doug's gonna be one
next week. His nomad life was established one year ago. Is there anything else you want to tell people
about the life? Like maybe is it different from what you thought it was going to be?
The thing I find the most amazing is the free spots that are out there. Literally everywhere we
go we're finding these amazing places that we can camp and and it's almost like how can this be free?
It's just such a beautiful area and and that to me has been one of the things it's just it's been fun
to find these new spots and really just be out there and enjoying what's out there. Right now
we're parked in the most amazing overnight spot that you won't find on any RV or camping app.
We're going to tell you how we found that spot and some other ones in the upcoming travel series.
You know we needed a spot on the fly and Doug is learning to find those places with me. We'll see
you next Sunday for a very special video and then the Sunday after that our travel series begins.
Until then Doug, everybody have happy travels and be free.
