Scotland & Lake District Solo UK Road Trip - Hiking Blencathra via Sharp Edge & Back Injury Update
Good morning, let's go on a road trip
All right guys we have made it to the first destination on this completely random
Spontaneous solo road trip. I just thought I'd get in my car and see where it takes me
I did book my hotel here tonight
So I knew that this was gonna be my first destination and I have a friend here who I'm meeting for dinner
So this is basically the start but I have nothing booked after tonight
I have a few ideas of things that I might go and do but I do also have some work that I'm doing
So I'm kind of traveling and working at the same time
So who knows where we'll end up but right now we have ended up in Edinburgh, which has got to be hands-down
My favorite city in the entire world
I've been here probably three or four times before and I just I love it here
There's something about Scotland in general that makes me feel like I'm at home
I don't know what it is, but Edinburgh is just so so stunning and I'm just so so happy to be back
I was driving in and all the buildings were starting to come up and I was just like
Yes, I'm in my favorite place. So I don't have a huge amount of plans while I'm here
I don't think I'll be here for a huge amount of time
but in half an hour
I'm gonna go meet a friend who lives here and we're gonna go and grab some food and a couple of drinks and that is
My only plan so far. I think I'm just gonna spend tomorrow
Walking around the city even though I've walked around it so many times
It's just the most beautiful city
If you've been here before you'll know and if you haven't it really is just like walking around Harry Potter. It's crazy
It's just so stunning and getting some coffee getting some good food and just relaxing really and then I've got some work in the afternoon
Some calls and meetings so I'll be doing those
The other option would be to go to the beach and go for a swim, but it is pretty chilly
So I don't know if I'll do that
But anyway, I need to get ready for dinner because I'm currently in what I drove up in
It took me six nearly six hours to get here from where I live. So it wasn't too bad
The drive was super easy. There was like no traffic on the roads, which was amazing
And I also really enjoy driving so it was pretty sweet. But yeah, we are in Scotland. Let's go and enjoy
Okay, I literally have to run but I thought I'd show you my outfit
It's a classic Lucy one basically baggy clothes because I don't know how to dress myself
but essentially this is what I'm wearing if it will focus so
Baggy jeans, I'm gonna tank top and then this super baggy jacket and my little Zara bag
And that is it. We are off for dinner. Let's go
Good morning. I am so hungry. I am so ready for some breakfast
It's about 10 a.m. Now and I got up really early and went for a walk up Arthur's Seat
it was super windy when I got up there, but it was nice to just get out and about and
Enjoy the morning. It was nice to have a different view for my morning walk, which was good. So I did that
I've come back to the hotel. I've packed up my stuff last night
We went for dinner at a place called Bonnie and wild I had a pizza and my friend Jen had some
Chicken and chips like fried chicken and then we had a couple of drinks a couple of whiskeys
Whiskey is my favorite and then we went to a bar called the voodoo rooms. I think it was called and
Had a few more cocktails there, which was really good and then yeah came home and just jumped straight into bed
I got home about 1 a.m. Ish. So it wasn't too crazy anything like that
It was just so nice to catch up and have a laugh and then yeah get up bright and early
To seize the day today. I still don't really have too many plans
I just had a look at where to go for breakfast. I think I'm gonna go to a place called Bross bagels
it's literally just around the corner from my hotel and
see if I can make a
Big-ass bagel with like avocado and maybe some haggis. So I'm gonna have that for breakfast
I think and then from there
I think I'm gonna head into the old town and just have a little wander around look at some of the
architecture take some photos and
probably just drop into a cafe at some point and catch up on a bit of work and then I have to be back for
About two o'clock because I have some calls this afternoon
Which I need to do in the meeting room and then I'm gonna jump in the car and head to
Kendall in the Lake District
So that is something I did when I got back last night is I booked a hotel for tonight and tomorrow night in
Kendall so I'm gonna head over there. That's about three and a half hour drive. So I'll probably be getting there pretty late
So I'm gonna make sure I have some lunch before I go as well
But yeah, that's pretty much the plan at the moment. The weather is it's nice and sunny
It's a little bit chilly very windy, but I shouldn't really need to have too many layers, which is good
The light here is so crazy
I mean, I'm only five and a half six hours north of where I live in terms of driving. It's like
250 miles but the difference in the daylight is quite stark. We left one of the bars last night at
11 and it was still light like pretty light
It was so bizarre and then I woke up this morning at 4 and there was already light in the sky
It's just crazy how long the days are here in summer
Yeah, it's kind of weird, but also really cool to have just tons of daylight
Anyway, I'm gonna finish packing up this stuff and then go and find some food and some
Hold on to me like I'm already gone
Whisper your words like secrets written in a normal skin
Look up above
Sunlight seems like it is gonna break in
Something ain't right
Yeah, something ain't right
Oh
You catch me at the end of a lot of walking in the one day and I'm feeling
pretty tired I'm ready for
plenty of food and
Probably a bath and then to hopefully get some sleep. I slept so bad last night so bad
I need about four hours sleep because I just could not get to sleep. I tried everything. I tried watching videos
I tried reading I tried listening to
Meditation I tried listening to white noise. I tried putting earplugs in I just could not get to sleep
It was so frustrating when I was up at 5 some this morning to go for a hike
So I went and met one of my friends Jake and we went up to Blencathra via sharp edge
So that was good another little Ridge done. Yeah, I'm such a really soft. I'm holding the camera
So that was great and then Jake had a lunch that he had to go see too
So we had to cut the hike pretty short. So we came back down. I came back to the hotel. I
just chilled out had some cereal and
Then I went on a long circular walk just about 11 kilometers. It's pretty cool
Actually, I ended up taking a route and came across an abandoned quarry
Apparently the witcher was filmed some of the witcher was filmed there. It was pretty cool. And then also a slate mine and
a
Waterfall a couple of waterfalls, so it's pretty nice actually and it was just really a chance to burn some energy
Get out in the Sun while it was sunny. I
Wore my watch all day to see
How far I would walk and I think I clocked up a pretty decent distance. Let's have a look
Yeah, so
Focus I did. Oh, that's really blurry
40,000 steps in total and
In terms of the hiking I did 11.6 kilometers and 13.7 kilometers the first hike we did
740 meters in elevation and then that second walk that I went on which was pretty flat was just over
400 meters in total elevation. So not a bad day. And now like I say, I'm back it is
730 and I am ready to eat. So I've got the most random amalgamate
Amalgamation of food here. I just wanted lots of random stuff. So that's what I'm eating
You guys are gonna think I'm so weird. I've also got a couple of drinks. I've already had a gin and tonic
I sat and had a gin and tonic and read my book after my walker pub and then I went and grabbed another gin and
Tonic a fizzy wine and a JD and coke. So I'm having that now. I'm gonna sit eat this
Watch some YouTube and just chill and then catch up with you guys in a little bit. Sorry if you hear that noise
All right, this is what I'm eating so I've got
British chips with scraps because you have to have scraps
curry sauce
Some salad which is from here and some chicken that I bought which is from like the cold chicken section in the supermarket
Because I'm kind of limited. I don't have a microwave or anything
So all of that with some salad dressing on there and I've also got some like relish that I bought which I put in there
and then I've also got
some
Tomatoes and some ham hock. So like I said, very very random and oh my gosh
I've just realized that my microphone isn't even attached to my camera. So I'm sorry if this audio is really bad
Right. I'm gonna eat this and chill and I will catch up with you guys in a bit
So I just thought I'd share this because I am so so engrossed in it at the moment, but this person up here
Recently climbed Everest and I've been following her journey. She tried to summit it last year
I think it was but was unsuccessful because of the weather and so she's managed to do it this year, but it is just
Fascinating watching someone try to climb Everest. Like it's so interesting so many things that you don't think about and it's just
amazing so yeah, if you need some inspo or
Just want to learn some stuff
It's just it's so engrossing. It's amazing. But anyway back to eating. So as you can tell I am back at home
I came back a couple of days ago. I honestly can't quite remember what the last thing I filmed was
I think it might have been me eating my dinner after the hiking on Saturday
It was a really nice day and dinner was chef's kiss
So good fish and chips and a load of random other stuff
I also went through nearly an entire box of brown flakes, which I'm pretty impressed with
You know, it's a good effort that in one weekend
I had a really bad night's sleep on that Saturday night and I was awake at about 4 in the morning and about 5
My friend Jake who I hiked with on Saturday messaged me and he was also awake
So we ended up going out taking his dog out for a walk
And then I met some of my girlfriends that I went to high school with which I haven't seen in about 15 years
Which was insane. This is insane. I felt like I hadn't aged, but I had aged
It was really bizarre, but it was so nice to see them
Which was lovely because I actually went to high school there
I don't know if I've mentioned but I went to high school in that area. So everyone still lives there. So that was really cool and
Then I decided I missed Hugo too much
I did a bit of work and I jumped in the car and headed home and it took about three hours to get home
And now I'm back now since coming back. I've had a bit of annoying news and that is that my back injury is
Flaring up again, and I don't know if it's my OG back injury or if it's just a niggle
but the consensus is that it's probably just a niggle which is
Grumbling my back injury
I'm probably not gonna go into too much detail because I'm gonna make a completely separate video all about my back injury
But my OG back injury is a disc bulge and it caused sciatic symptoms
and that was something that happened was only two years ago now about a year and a half and
Took a long time to get over and it was really frustrating
And like I say, I still need to make a video about the recovery and the mindset and all that sort of stuff
But I've also been told by surgeons and my osteopath and physiotherapist that it's something that's probably
Not that likely to ever heal fully it will be managed well
But it may flare up from time to time and who knows it might happen fully again
So that's something that I'm definitely aware of and I always always have in the back of my mind when I'm doing stuff
But obviously I do put my body through a lot in terms of hiking being out in the mountains being as active as I am
Doing calisthenics and training and all that stuff and to be honest with you
I'm not great at stretching like I really don't do it as much as I should
So it potentially could be a little bit of a strain on my disc which is grumbling me
But I think the general consensus is that it's more of a muscle strain that really has appeared from nowhere
I just woke up one day
I was like my back's a little bit achy and I thought it was because I had my period that day and it just
Continued to get worse and worse and worse at first because I'm so stubborn
I continued to not train
But I continued to walk as much as I normally do and on any given day I usually walk anywhere between
17,000 to 25,000 steps then that's not normal necessarily
Like that's a lot of steps for most people but for me, that's just what I'm used to. I live in an urban area
I do all my groceries pretty much daily by foot. I have an active job all that sort of stuff
So this is pretty normal for me and I maintained that for the first few days, but my back just couldn't handle it
so I spent two days just completely pulling back doing just my rehab exercises and stretches and
Not really walking anywhere near as much just taking short walks and then resting the rest of the time
And it definitely has improved which is why everyone thinks it is just a muscle strain that potentially is aggravating the disc injury
Slightly, so we are slowly and surely getting there. I saw my osteopath for the second time again yesterday
Did a bit of dry needling a bit of soft tissue massage
So we'll see how it feels in a couple of days time
but it's just a little bit frustrating just because I mentally I love being active and
Having to put everything on a standstill just makes me pretty sad, but it will be okay
I will keep you guys updated on how it goes and I have been able to do
Some gym sessions just to really move my body and like I say it just gives me that mental
time just to
Chill that's what I really find especially with my job being the way it is
I spend a lot of time on my own and although I'm a personal trainer everything is online
So there's only really two days a week where I'm actually talking to clients face-to-face and the rest of the week
I could basically go without seeing anyone
So I do go out and about and working cafes a lot
But I use the gym as that time to be around other people and so that's kind of why I've missed but it will be fine
We'll get back to it. I'm actually going away
Tomorrow first thing in the morning to Belfast in Northern Ireland to go and meet one of my girlfriends for the weekend
We're having a girls weekend, which should be really nice. I'm really looking forward to it
So hopefully my back like doesn't aggravate me too much
We're hoping to go to the beach and do a few little bits and bobs as well
So fingers crossed it will continue to get better. But until then I'm gonna just try not to think about it too much
Really? I have nearly finished my book that I was reading which is how to talk to anyone
I also read another book called Verity which has been going around
I'm not a fiction reader, but I read this book from front to back in about three days and
It was good. I was a little bit disappointed with the ending
That is all I'm going to say but it was good to read
Usually I read things like popular science or psychology or business books
So it's completely different for me, but I did enjoy reading it and I find fiction very easy to read
So it was nice just to have a little bit of like mental space just to read that so I would recommend it
It was definitely a good book. I mean I finished it in three days, but oh that ending was just a little bit disappointing
Anyway, right. I've got to pack because yeah, I've got a lot of packing to do and also I've got some calls in a second
So I better go but I just thought I would finish this video off let you know what's going on
I will make that video about my back in the future because I know I get so many questions about it
But until then I will let you guys go. Thank you so much for watching this totally random video
I don't even know if it's any good
But I hope you got something out of it or you enjoyed it in some way and I will see you guys in the next video
Bye
