Waking up in Mexico City is easily one of our favorite ways to start our day.
And usually every great day starts off with a laugh with your love
and maybe a cup of coffee too.
Today that's exactly what we did.
See you at the next one.
So this coffee shop is called Blend Station. It has been here in Roma for one week. Today marks
one week since I've been here. Their main place was in Condesa which is the neighboring neighborhood
where we stayed these last couple of days and that one has a much more live atmosphere. I guess
since this has only been here for a week a lot of people don't know about it yet but it's kind
of cool to be somewhere this cool this early on. So our game plan for today I don't know what
exactly will end up happening. We want to take some pictures downtown for Instagram
then we'll probably go home and we'll see what happens in between. Also we got these vegan
muffins from Rosetta. They're like an oat muffin with berries and stuff. They're really good.
We are here in downtown Mexico City in a market called La Ciudadela. Tana is down there
catching up a little bit on her hair brushing. She just got these cool new pants that I'll show
you in just a second. So this market is like an artisanal market. They sell all sorts of
things that if you come to Mexico City you should definitely come here to get everybody's gifts
because they have all the little cute Mexican things that everybody would love to see. This is
actually our first time here. We like it so far. Are we going straight? Yeah. Can I cross?
Okay. These pants I feel like would be sold in an urban or like a really expensive
like boutique downtown somewhere for like at least $70. Yeah it's easy. We got them for $14
and supporting a local family. 100% cotton. 100% wool. That's what the man said. So I'm
carrying this suitcase because this is our last night here and it's 5 30 p.m and this
is when we decided to start the vlog. Let's cross this way. We have officially entered
downtown Mexico City as you can tell by all of these people. It only gets worse.
So baby. Yeah. What's your favorite part about Mexico City?
Mexico City or downtown Mexico City? Downtown Mexico City.
Okay so I think it's like the nostalgia factor because I remember coming to downtown Mexico
City when I was a child and usually whenever I would come to Mexico with my family we would
fly into Mexico City and then take a bus straight to my parents' hometown which is
with all due respect not the cutest town. It's in rural southern Mexico. So this is the only thing
that I ever got to see that was kind of like really really cool. Like this kind of made me feel
like there was so much more to Mexico to see than I had previously experienced. So being able to be
here like 15 years later is really really cool because you know now I get to experience it at
my own pace and I can actually enjoy it with my baby. This place is chaos today. It's holy week
and I was told that not very many people would be in Mexico City because everybody goes home for the
I know and it always seems like it's insanely crowded. Maybe it's not Mexicans or Mexicans
from Mexico City that are here. Maybe it's people from other places that come to Mexico City like us.
This is exhausting. Check out my hair. This is kind of like one of my biggest fears is being
around this many people in one area because I have such a fear of like I don't know like a bomb
or people attacking. That's why I'm like scared of going to New York and really like really
populated areas. I don't want to get too political but that's not as common here
in Mexico as it is in other places. But right behind us is the Palace of Fine Arts.
Very beautiful. It makes all of this worth it honestly. It's such a really pretty place. So in
the Palace of Fine Arts there's a museum where they have different exhibits. Some of the biggest
exhibits in Mexico are here and some of the biggest concerts in Mexico are here especially
like opera type, the symphony type of concerts. Big mariachi concerts have taken place here and
things like that. It's a very iconic part of Mexico City. And we've actually never been inside.
It'll be something to look forward to next time maybe. Right now we're walking to the
House of Tiles to get some pictures. Instagram. Yeah so we're gonna continue over there before the sunset.
My under eyes look crazy. We're so tired but I'm really tired too. This is the alleyway that
everybody comes to to get these pictures against the House of Tiles. I guess we'll show you guys
how beautiful this little house, well this little house, this mansion is. When you guys find out
that this is a Sanburns. Sanburns is like Barnes and Noble meets, I don't know, Denny's or something.
It's such a random place and that's what this amazing building is. The whole thing. The whole
building is that. It's crazy. Could you imagine your local Denny's looking like this? These kinds of
shops are set up like all over the city, actually all over the country pretty much. How sad apparently
because it's holy week. They're closing very early at the post office. Right here. Which is right
behind us. It looks so beautiful from the window. We'll pull some pictures from online to show you
guys what it looks like on the inside and why we were so excited to walk in there. But this is a
must see if you're coming to downtown Mexico City. Look for the post office because it is probably the
most beautiful post office in the history of the history of the world. And if you've seen the movie
Coco, you know what it looks like inside because they used it as inspiration for some of the scenes
in the movie. So sad we can't show you guys ourselves but we gotta get moving. We'll also
have that to look forward to next time. Mexico City always gives us reasons to come back.
This looks like a really pretty museum in front of us. It does. Right now I'm pretty down to find
some boba. Here you are. Oh my god. So if you guys saw one of our last vlogs, you saw that Montana
is really into Mount Matcha. And as of today she's really into boba. Matcha boba. Matcha boba. Okay.
Are you doing my straw for me? Okay do it.
Oh no. What the heck? It's not going in. You just don't know how. I don't know how. I don't boba.
There is so much energy out here but luckily we found this little tea place and it's actually
pretty empty and it doesn't even feel like we're in a chaotic area of Mexico City that we're in.
Does it? It literally feels like we're in this little enclave. I think there's some AC I'm
feeling up here. This is nice. Nice little relaxation. We're gonna recharge a little bit
because there's so much going on out there to really tackle it for the sunset because
it's kind of getting golden out there. We also don't know how we're getting home yet so I guess
we're gonna try to find a BlaBla car to take in a few hours. BlaBla car is this carpooling service
in Mexico. It's actually in a bunch of different countries. I don't think it's in the U.S. It's
really cool because if somebody's going from one city to another they just post it on BlaBla car
and us who don't have cars can log in and just pay them maybe like some money for gas and it's
way cheaper than any other form of transportation so that's usually what we do. We're gonna drink
our boba and we will show you more of Mexico City. I don't usually record sideways like this
but the sun is right behind me and that makes the lighting really weird so we are
half a block away from El Zocalo which is the main plaza in Mexico City. So many historic
things have happened there so it's really cool that we're going. I can already see it.
Okay so a very spiritual little corner here with that cleansing going on over there
and Mexico's Metropolitan Cathedral over here. That's a spectacular cathedral.
And those little gardens right here look really cute. It's a very Mexican cactus garden.
If you're coming to Mexico City, downtown is definitely something to experience
but it's not my favorite just because of how many people there are. Wait everything we've
shown you has been in the span of two hours and I don't feel like we've shown that much. There's
just so much so many people but it's beautiful. I mean you should definitely it's definitely
something you should experience when you come to Mexico City. This is a national palace behind this
which is where the president works and plays. I don't know. Why is it important for there to be
this huge open square in front of a building like that? So people can come and protest freely.
There's like tons of room for people to come protest in front of the government building,
right? Yeah so this is like a representation of freedom of speech to have a place like this for
people to be able to demand what they need from the government. This is such a big open area in
the middle of Mexico City and it's used for so many things. Sometimes they host concerts,
sometimes they host tournaments. I remember watching there was a homeless world cup where
they play in like on like small sided fields in this area. It's insane like they played soccer
like an actual soccer like world cup tournament in this area. That's how big it is. Speaking of
this is a place for a lot of protests. Looks like you can see a protest going on over there
right in front of the national building. That right there is the balcony where the president
might come out and talk to the people. There's so many shopping options on the road that connects
the Palace of Fine Arts to El Zocalo and we're in one of them. But what I've been noticing since
Tan is the one that's doing best shopping right now is how many people have thick sole white
sneakers. It's so interesting and how like so many people start having the same shoe at one time.
Things like these pants which I'm still so excited about getting
and like buying from the guy that we bought it from because it seemed like such a good
support. He was so nice and he said that the people who make the pants are actually in Mexico
City like family and friends who knows. Anyways things like these pants and those like body
brushes and stuff that he's just selling all the time. We're standing right outside of an
official Barcelona store. I think this is super neat. I had no idea this was in Mexico. I'm not
a Barca fan but this is really cool. So we're wrapping things up here in the downtown area of
Mexico City but we did decide we were going to do one last thing before we left the city
and so we're chasing down a taxi to jail because it's way easier to just find a taxi
in the middle of the road than try to get an Uber. So we're looking for one that's available. Found one.
Before we left Mexico City we had to treat ourselves one more time so we came back to
Roma which is where we have been these last couple of days and we came to our favorite place.
Maybe in the world. I don't know. Check this out. These are vegan tacos. Can you believe that?
That is plant-based right there. Amazing. So I was just talking to the guy that's making the tacos
and he was telling me that he used to be a street taco maker just elsewhere that was not
vegan and he just decided to move here for no particular reason apparently but I think it's
really cool that they have an actual person who knows exactly how to make tacos the right way
so you know you're getting the real deal.
What are you putting on your tacos? Okay so the OG stuff like lime, cilantro, and onion
and some salsa. He's making these very very OG.
My food finally just got here. I got a gringa which has avocado. What kind of meat is this?
A very Mexico City type of meat. Mexico City type? With cheese, avocado, tomato,
grilled onion. They put some salsa, cilantro, and lime on there too. We're gonna enjoy it now
and then head to the bus station. Wait, why don't you tell them the story of the gringa?
Do you remember? No. The gringa comes from the story of here in Mexico City where some like
white girls kept going to get some tacos at the taqueria but they eventually started demanding
it with wanting it, not demanding it, but they wanted it with flour tortillas and they wanted
some cheese inside of it to kind of mimic a little bit more of American Mexican food and so
they started doing that for them and so many people started liking it too. They tried it and they liked
it and so gringa became a really really really popular option at taquerias in Mexico and that's
what my little gringa here is having. I don't always have this but I tried it yesterday for
like the first time and I really liked it. So we didn't end up doing Blah Blah Car which was the
carpooling service that we talked about. We enjoy it more than busing because you get to drive with a
normal car so it's faster, it's actually cheaper, but buses are more reliable because there's so
many more buses going to a bunch of destinations so we decided to take a bus and this is where
we're gonna sign off. We are sitting in the bus station right now waiting for a bus to be called.
