Remember Little Nemo? The young boy who traveled each night in his dreams to a magical world and experienced fabulous adventures. Well, it’s time to step into the world of fantasy again as a live-action adaptation of Slumberland is out. The difference this time is that it will be ‘Nema’, a girl who will be the protagonist and experience the adventure of a lifetime along with a mutant called ‘Flip.’
Hey guys, welcome back. Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and if you're looking for
the perfect family film to watch with your kids and loved ones, arriving on Netflix is Slumberland.
The movie is a live-action adaptation of the 1905 comic strip, Little Nemo in Slumberland,
by Winsor McCay. American child artist Marlo Barkley will be making her feature film debut,
and will play the lead role alongside Jason Momoa. Barkley plays the role of an 11-year-old
girl Nima, who used to live in a lighthouse with her father. Nima's father used to tell her stories
every night about a mystical world called Slumberland, a world built on dreams and
nightmares too. It's a place where you can wish for anything. After her father passes away,
Nima's world is turned upside down, as she is sent to the city to live with her uncle Philip,
who comes across as dull and nothing like her father. Nima's insecurity and unusual outlook
on life are apparent, as she finds her new school and routine challenging. Her uncle shows her some
old videos of her father and himself as kids, recalling how he used to tell stories about the
wild adventures they used to go on. This reminiscence eventually leads the girl to the
dream world that her father told her about. At night she is awakened by her stuffed pig coming
to life, and her bed carrying her to the water where she surfs alongside penguins. She then
meets Flip, a nine-foot-tall, half-man, half-beast, sporting horns, fangs, and a top hat. He is equal
parts intriguing and lovable. Flip reveals to Nima that he knew her father and both of them
were outlaws years ago, stealing things from other people's dreams. Despite Flip's notoriety
and his penchant for getting into trouble, Nima decides to join him on an adventure when he claims
to know a way that she can wish for her father back. The two form a strong bond as Flip quickly
becomes her partner and guide, and the duo embarked on the journey of a lifetime that is
filled with delight and danger in equal parts. He warns Nima that everything in Slumberland is not
butterflies and flowers, and one needs to be careful if they want to make it out alive and
return to the waking world. A spirited Nima who is ready to do anything to get her father back
enters Slumberland along with Flip, who tells her that they are about to go on a treasure hunt.
Brimming with stunning visuals, the dream world showcases several frames lifted straight from the
comic panels. It's exactly what we'd hope to see in a cinematic version. The duo are seen traversing
dreams and fleeing nightmares, and it'll be interesting to see how she and Flip progress
through the magical world toward their goal. Momoa, who is mostly known for tough-guy roles
like Aquaman and Game of Thrones, deserves special praise as he proves that he can do comical roles
too. You can see his inner child is running loose in the trailer, and the best part is that the
knows just when to hold back in his performance. You no doubt see a playful Momoa, but he never
veers toward the hokey falseness some actors portray in kids' movies. Meanwhile, Barkley's
performance as Nima is overflowing with the childlike charm and curiosity of her lovable
comic book counterpart. Yet, she seems to be carrying off the nuanced layers of a childhood
tainted by grief absolutely beautifully. With a smart, quick-witted Nima teaming up with the
charismatic and flamboyant Flip, whose thirst for adventure is unquenchable, the film looks
promising. Considering everything, it's safe to say that the biggest question will revolve around
the existence of Slumberland and if Nima's wish does come true. So save the date and be ready to
embark on a journey full of magic, adventure, and fun with Nima and Flip. This video is sponsored
