In this video I go camping when I had really long hair about 1 month ago on a quest to try recording a catch & cook; which unfortunately didn't go as planned.. However, I still land my first Skamania Steelhead! I will be releasing a Part 2 to this video later this week and its probably the best moment I've ever recorded on camera.
All right, yo, what is going on guys keeps here it's been a little while since I upload a video
I think it's been probably what three or four weeks or something like that. But today I have an interesting video for you guys
This is something I've never done before on my channel something
I've always talked about and I'm very excited to share it with you today. We are going to be camping
This is my brand new tent. Actually. I got this over the winter. I got a nice
Got myself a nice sleeping bag in the fall and a nice inflatable sleeping pad
And I I'm just excited. I just love this kind of stuff. I don't know
It just gets me excited. The weather's finally getting nice out summer's coming around the corner and I this is why I live for it
I love going outside camping fishing as you guys know, so the goal today is to catch a skamania steelhead
This is the very start of the run. So it's not gonna be a full run essentially yet
But we should definitely expect
Some fish to be in the body of water that I am fishing. So if I don't catch a fish tonight
I'm not gonna eat. So I have what time is it? I think it's
It's currently about six o'clock and I think I got a good three hours
Maybe a little bit less than that a daylight left. Let's get it
Yeah, sure, I was gonna move upstream but it's all good. Oh for sure man appreciate it. Thank you
Hi, can I get a the Culver's deluxe, please?
I can't hear a single thing. I definitely bought some like really stale marshmallows. It's weird
I keep hearing like cows like mooing and then there's like chickens that walk by me
interesting little campsite
All right. I think it's gonna be time to go to bed
It's like 9 30 10 o'clock right now plan on getting up super early I just burnt the last of my firewood right here
Wasn't a whole lot but I got us through the night
I could I could have definitely like spared it and made it last for several hours
but I think I overshot it a little bit, so I'm just gonna burn it all right now and
Watch it burn down for a little bit
Chill out and call it a night. I'll see you guys in the morning
All right
430
Time to pack up the time and hit the road. I'm
Pretty exhausted for sure. This is tough
Late night lead a crib just for that
Be self-sacred hook up right here. Come on such a nice run
First ever scam dude, let's go
I know the water temperature actually dropped a ton. It'll last like a couple days though. They're dead as dirt though after you
Planned on keeping it. I just want to make sure you know, I just try to release them if I can I know peers are a
little
higher than anything
nice though
Do you get some sideways as well?
Thanks, man
Appreciate it
first ever scamania
A lot of you guys are probably wondering why I keep this steelhead
It's simply because this summer run strain of steelhead
The water is so warm in these creeks that it does not
Revive them and a lot of the times after you catch them they belly up and they die on you
So in the most ideal situation, I do not usually keep my steelhead
I don't like to due to their high mortality rate because of the warm water in these creeks
It's almost inevitable that they die every single time
So the most ethical thing for me to do is to keep this fish, unfortunately and eat it
It will be put to good use I can tell you that but
The chances of its survival of me letting it go
Especially I don't know if you guys noticed in that fight how it kind of just completely gave up and I was able to surf
It right into the net
It it's it's better that I keep this fish than to let it go and let it die and rot on the bank
It's the most ethical thing to do. Trust me. I've thought of
Absolutely everything I can to keep these fish alive, but just it just says what it is
And unfortunately, we have to keep this fish, but it will be put to good use
It is a good meat fresh off the lake and
It is what it is
So, I don't know if I'm gonna fish too much longer if I keep if if I end up catching another one
I'm gonna have to keep it and I definitely don't think I want to catch a third one. So
I'm not sure how long the fishing is gonna last ideally
We would have freaking caught this fish last night. We would have caught this fish last night
We'd add a catch-and-cook. We would have had a freaking campsite catch-and-cook and it would have been nice
I mean, maybe we could do it tonight. Maybe I could set up the tent again, but
It honestly does not sound ideal. I'll probably end up just taking this guy home or flying it somewhere and
Just getting meat and
throwing it in a gallon freezer bag or something, but
At least we're one for one. We're on the board. We got a fish and
I'm excited to keep fishing. So let's get it. Alright guys, so briefly I'm gonna go for what I'm using today
So for my actual rod, we have a llama glass red line 11-6. We've got the Akuma Aventa
Center pin reel nothing too fancy and I actually just spooled this up with 15 pound
Monofilament blood run line. I actually really like this line so far. It's not too bad
I know some people think it's cringe to have like high visibility line, but it is what it is
There's all they had on the shelf. So I was like screw it
So I got 15 pound monofilament blood run float line and
that is going to be going to an 8 gram blood run float and
Just under that we are gonna have two size 7 split shot to a micro swivel
which is then being led to
10 pound fluorocarbon
maxima
With a couple of micro shot in between just to get that spawn sack down to the bottom
Which I have not shown you yet. So we've got two size sevens
leading to two
two BB shot and we have it running down to a size for Skeena hook and
A fresh spawn sack from some spawn that I got off a steelhead. And yeah, so we got fresh bags size for hook
10 pound fluorocarbon leader to split to BB split shot
size 7
15 pound monofilament blood run float line 8 gram float and then of course the two stoppers right there
And it's as simple as that. So pretty easy rig nothing too fancy. Usually I run a double leader setup. I'll run like
So if I'm using 10 pound right here
I usually run a bobber leader that has maybe 12 pound or something just above it, but nothing more than my main line
So usually I have like a foot or two of a bobber leader
But in this circumstance, I was breaking off so much and I did not have any 12 pound on me
So I just figured I'd run my bobber on the main line this time around and it's working pretty good
So yeah, that's the setup right there and let's get back to it
And last time I was here, there's this freaking 7-eleven thing here too and all these beer cans
I'm gonna pick this up real quick. Nothing like a beer at 5 a.m. Baby. Let's get it
we have a lot of room for it, but
That's so nasty, man
That was your first cast
This is a giant fish, I hope you know that
