Today it felt almost like Spring had arrived already, and yet two weeks ago it was snowing, and just a few days ago the ground was still frozen solid.
So I thought I would go around the garden and remove everything that did not make it in the very cold weather, which was mainly my Fuschia, Osteospermum and Santolina Lemon Fizz.
So we made the most of the sunshine and had a good garden tidy up ... and the best thing is I mow have more gaps for more plants!! 😊

Janette, The Enthusiastic Gardener
Hello everyone it's Jeanette again from Enthusiastic Gardener and it is
a beautiful morning today. It feels so mild it feels very unlike February because it is still
February so I'm not going to be fooled by this warm weather and I'm not doing any pruning yet.
I'm not going to do pruning for a good another month because it's still winter
and the weather could still turn cold and if we prune too early especially in my area
we could be sorry but what I can do is I'm going to go around the garden and I'm going to have a
good tidy up. There are weeds beginning to emerge there are plants that did not make it through the
snow and the frost which I'll show you so I thought I could spend a little while out here
just cleaning up tidying anything that's already died or dying it might as well go and then I'll
feel like I've been out in the garden done something constructive so let me take you
around with me and we will have a look and get rid of some stuff. I've also started my hardening off
process of these seeds which have been in my greenhouse and these seeds have been in my
greenhouse or they were sown in September would you believe and they've done so well we've got some
ornamental cabbage and I have calendula and they're just beginning to get a little flower
you can see down there then we've got some violas basically they were the things that
survived from September I don't know that I will sow in September again really so I need to
get these hardened off a little bit because I'm going to need room in my greenhouse for when I
start my seeds very soon as you can see I've got a whole row of trays ready to go on this shelf
on this shelf here which is where those seedlings are I've got a whole lot of other trays to go
there so we need to get these plants out of the greenhouse and into the garden or just
somewhere else so that I've got room to get all that going so I've opened the doors
give it a bit of air
Isn't it gorgeous today Rich? It's very nice there's a hole in my grass
yes today yeah I'm gonna do a job for myself. What are you going to do?
I'm going to wash my garlic. Oh excellent idea so gorgeous. Richard is cooking today
what are you cooking Rich? Balsamic chicken with brussels new potatoes they're in the slow cooker
there should be ready in about two and a half hours. Perfect. See not only do I have to do gardening
right I've done one bed and cleared away a load of stuff that was all dead and also I'm not doing
any pruning or anything just yet but as you can see I have my favorite thing of all a lot of gaps
so I don't want to disturb the soil too much because I am a fan of the no dig method which
is because all the microorganisms all the worms and everything that's going on under the soil
one dig in the ground does disturb it and also I've got loads of tulips so I don't want to
ruin all the tulips but it's a good start I need to clear away all this mess from this bed
and then I can move on to the next one
put it on now. As you can see it is filthy. When was the last time you played golf Rich? January
the 4th. Was it? You miss it don't you? I certainly do. Well you'll be ready anyway.
I love the cleanest golf trolley. I'm doing this in between cooking you know I have to keep an eye on
I made a mistake about three weeks ago
of getting involved with the cooking mind you the meals have been a lot better
it seems I have a little bit of a knack for cooking
I was impatient. What did you make yesterday? What did I make yesterday? No it was Friday. Friday I made
turkey con carne, turkey chilli con carne. And what about that soup you made? The soup was
turkey soup. The turkey soup I made was oh my god the best. Jeanette made a rice pudding
it's true but the good thing is it's cleared the drains out really good
yes the rice pudding because I never got involved
didn't turn out that nice. Anyway I must crack on
Right I'm going to call it a day. Richard are you calling it a day? That's it my golf trolley is
cleansed and polished. We are going to call it a day. I have done two beds. I had thought
in my enthusiasm that I would do all my beds but no there's no point there's no point
there's no point if you're not in the mood anymore. Richard's done his golf trolley which is
just cleaning. Yes already but when we get the go ahead. Yes be about August I reckon.
Anyway we're going to go now we've had some fun in the garden haven't we
I can see you behind me out of my peripheral vision and I can see you in that window there
so be nice Richard be nice to your wives everyone. I'm Jeanette I am the enthusiastic gardener. Thank
you for joining me and I've had a lot of fun this morning. I hope you are having
a little bit of fun in your gardens. Thank you for watching. Bye
