Where do we go from, where do we go from here?
Next stop Mainz.
Angelina's and Lars spending the night, yes in Mainz and we're going to the Christmas market
and it's beautiful weather outside a bit cold it's beautiful and they're bringing
see tongue-tied English is like her third language and her sentence was way bad
Christmas market and food
First we're gonna stop by the Rhine. It's a river, a lake, a lake, a river, sorry, sorry, oh my gosh
Yeah she said it correct. They got the docks all decorated up. Now we are in Rheinland-Pfalz
and on the other side is Hessen. Oh okay
That's where we're going. On the Christmas market in Mainz you have to put a
band because otherwise you pay 115 euros. It is a fine. Oh how much is the band? It costs nothing,
nothing. It's for free. That would be dumb to not get a band then. Waiting in Christmas
lines. We got to check our apps for our Covid stuff. They got to check our passports.
Everybody got their bands? All right, yeah, all right. We're like Wonder Twin.
This looks pretty awesome. Let's eat.
Now it's a Christmas market because we have food.
Okay, what are these, Lars?
It's applesauce.
Potato cakes with applesauce.
Everything is made of chocolate.
Cheese, scissors.
This is where we work and they have a lot of stuff for everything for Christmas. Nutcracker.
Bratwurst, need one. Oh look at that. French fries.
All right, try your currywurst. Oh, they didn't give us a portion. 100% vegan.
Why are Belgian French fries called French fries?
That is good currywurst.
We're done with the market, now we're at the theater in the old town. There's Captain America.
Ah, victory. Thanks for an awesome Christmas market visit. Yes.
Yeah, you're welcome. And now we're going back to the house to make waffles.
Today, Lars is going to teach me how to make homemade spätzle.
And I, of course, am going to make coffee. If you take 600 grams of flour, you need to take six eggs.
Very easy. We're going to tell Lars a secret ingredient. It looks like just plain water,
but it has bubbles and that's the key. You put it in the machine and it makes it bubbly.
So the stream. So the stream. It makes the spätzle more fluffy. Oh my god, it's fluffy. Hell yeah, it is.
For each 100 grams of flour, you use one spoonful of water.
And just put salt like it's like you want. I never know how much I put in, but it's okay
every time I think. Lars loves to do spätzle because his father comes from
Baden-Württemberg. This is the area where spätzle are made.
Pour a pot of water. And add some oil. Geez. And add some oil. See that pimple right there?
And now cut. Yes. He's got a knife. When the spätzle are coming up, they are ready.
Just like a minute of cooking and they're done.
Hot. Not good. With cheese it's better. If you want them a little more fluffier.
Just added more carbonated water to the dough. We're making two different sauces. A mushroom sauce
and a cheese sauce. The sauce looks amazing. If I haven't already, insert the iPhone footage
from the Christmas market last night. Emmentaler. I made them agree to let me do cleanup.
Doesn't look like you're doing much. I'm gonna leave you with that. I'm gonna go
work on something really important. And by that I mean drink coffee over here.
Katie, you're awesome. In retrospect, that was a little bit hot to be putting the lens against.
Anyway, you'll learn. The mushroom sauce is almost done. The cheese sauce is cooking in there.
Katie is cleaning. Angelina is stacking. Lars is preparing. And I'm just lip flapping.
The table is cool. It even has drawers on the side. Look at that.
This little apartment just has everything set up so that it feels
big. The space utilization here is top-notch. Lars there, we forgot to tell you, is also
an international athlete. He represents Germany all over the world in duathlon. He runs really fast.
It's creamy with the sautéed onions. This is really good. One day I'm going to try and
duplicate this. It will never taste the same, but I'm going to try. Guten Appetit, guys.
Thank you. We are going to rapidly eat this amazing meal and then Katie and I have to skitter
off to the train station. It has been so awesome to meet Lars and get to see him again. There he is.
And to see dear Angelina again and all that great time we spent with her amazing family.
We will see these guys again. Oh yeah. That's a good clear on Lars. He's got food running down
his face. He's like, turn off the camera. I have to eat. That is a wrap, guys. Again,
thank you so much. You're welcome. It's just amazing. We've got more family now all over the
world. And now it's time to eat and run. Keep drinking this coffee.
