It's the middle of October and it's getting colder in Yakutia.
Natalia and her family live in the middle of the Siberian snowy forest
where harsh winters are the norm.
Meet Natalia's husband Dmitry.
He is a talented musician well known in Yakutia.
Every morning Dmitry chops wood to keep the house warm
to provide fuel and heat for the family.
There is no water treatment facilities in the village
and clearly never enough water.
Locals use ice water for drinking and showering.
And one of the Dmitry's chores is to collect water
from washing and cleaning from the nearest lake.
The village is located far from civilization and roads.
It has about 100 people.
It's a warm close-knit community where everyone helps each other.
Natalia hurries to her underground natural freezer
to get food to start cooking today's meals for the family.
The freezing cold temperatures in the village also come with some advantages.
The locals have no need for the freezer
as the ground is frozen solid all year round.
Natalia is making fruit drink made of wild lingonberries
that have been harvested during the short summer.
She is boiling ice water with sugar and lingonberry to make the drink.
Meanwhile, Dmitry went to the forest to look for willow branches to make a new flute.
As I already said, Dmitry is passionate about music.
He lives music, breathes music, eats music, sleeps music.
He is self-taught flute player and learned entirely by reading books.
