Hi, welcome to Real Magic Review.
My name is Steve Faulkner, and yeah, thanks for coming.
This is another live review, unplanned,
well, not sort of unplanned, but unadvertised,
because I've realized I've got no time to edit
over the next few days, and I wanted to tell you
about a couple of things that I was kindly sent
to talk about.
So, God, I do me heavy.
Um, the screen's kind of at that point now.
I'm slowly, I'm becoming, well,
like everybody on the planet, becoming older,
but it seems day by day my eyes are getting worse,
and I just can't seem to get it right.
But there you go.
That's irrelevant, isn't it?
I can just tell I haven't seen anybody for a while.
So, please like and subscribe.
Please check out cardmagiccourse.com.
I was, the reason I want to talk about these
is because they bring up an interesting thing for me,
which I'm always really interested to hear
what other people think about.
So, these, I got sent three things.
One's called a coin cage, which I haven't put together yet.
But these are from Century Magic,
and I'll show you the, what they are.
So, as it says here, produces unique products
using a variety of small-scale manufacturing methods,
including 3D printing, woodworking, and hand finishing.
Now, I didn't know that.
And the first thing I was struck by,
and this is what I've got here,
the Infinity Blocks and the Trinity Board.
And the first thing I was struck by
is they're really nice-looking things.
I also got the coin cage there, like I said,
but I haven't put it together.
The, what did I say?
Check out cardmagiccourse.com.
I did, didn't I?
I've always got to say that.
I forget.
I'm just mumbling to myself.
If I didn't, check out cardmagiccourse.com.
I promise I haven't been drinking.
I absolutely promise.
So, this is what we've got.
So, first thing is they're really, really nicely made,
nicely put together.
I always worry with 3D printing,
because some 3D printing stuff,
you're getting, it's like, I'm like, great.
So, these are the Infinity Blocks.
I'll tell you what they are.
This is based on an old physics illusion, really,
where you pick up, God, they're really weird.
It is really weird.
You basically, you pick them up like that,
and they feel really light,
and then you pick up two, and it feels heavier,
and then you pick up one, and it feels even heavier.
Okay, so that's the illusion.
And the first thing is, you know,
really unusual looking stuff.
And this is kind of what I want to talk about in a minute.
But you get a nice little bag for them.
You can imagine it's a really nice thing.
It's a curiosity to take out,
and people are genuinely fascinated with them.
Now, the other thing I've got here is this Trinity Board.
Now, this, again, is another really nice,
I didn't know this was 3D printed.
I got that and just thought it's a really lovely object,
something that's gonna make people curious,
that's gonna fit certain types of performances.
And what this is, it's basically a way to get one ahead.
So if you know Mental Epic, any one-ahead routine,
it's a way of openly getting one ahead.
And that's all I'm gonna say.
But basically, the effect is,
you sit with two, three other people,
or however many you want,
and you've got this object,
and you talk about the object,
it's mysterious qualities,
it's kind of got a weird sort of Ouija board feel to it,
I suppose.
And I'm just neatening this up.
And these are billets.
These are just normal billets.
And you say, you write something on a bit of paper
before saying to the first person,
write it on the paper, fold it up,
and put it in this one that says number one,
and they're sitting right there.
And you say, okay, I want you to think about
any letter of the alphabet.
Ask them anything, really,
that you could have written on there.
So it's a prediction.
The second person, you ask them another random thing
after writing on this, so person number two.
So you write something, then you ask them,
and that's their prediction, and carry on.
Now, if you know about One Ahead,
mental epic, and all that kind of stuff,
you know that there's one that sometimes
has to be slightly different
if you don't want to incorporate certain things.
And I know for some of you,
this isn't gonna make much sense,
but basically, the classic and flawed way of doing this
is you ask two really random things,
and then the third one is you say,
pick a playing card, for example.
That's what you could do,
and it kind of feels weird,
because it's a very different thing.
Now, if you don't do that,
the problem with this is you have one,
what he does is a psychological force,
and we all know that they're not 100%.
So there is a chance, if you do this a certain way,
that you might do this and get one miss.
Now, some people say that doesn't matter,
and that's a stronger thing.
I tend to disagree.
I think finishing with a miss,
even though he's still getting two out of three is good,
I still think isn't great.
Now, he has a great, lovely tarot routine on this,
which you're gonna avoid all that,
and he's got some nice little subtleties
now that doesn't make it feel odd.
So he does it with three tarot cards.
Everybody picks a tarot card,
and you predict all of them,
which I think is probably not as strong as the other one
if you get all the hits,
but is a fairly decent thing to do.
And if you're the sort of person that I,
you know, I look at this and I go,
it's really interesting, it's really lovely.
You can imagine getting that out,
and it's sitting in the middle of a table
and being, you know, for a bizarre show
or something like that,
being like a Halloween show or a seance
or something, it could be really, really effective.
For me, it's not gonna fit into anything I perform,
but I'm not reviewing it for me,
I'm reviewing it for you.
And if you are the sort of person
that really likes these kind of things,
that that fits, and like I said,
I know people that,
I can think of three people in my head right now
that you can imagine them doing that
and really, really nicely.
And it is really clever, it's really simple.
There's no skill involved really
other than your performance skill,
which is arguably more difficult
than sleight of hand sometimes.
But I think some of you will really, really like it.
Know that you're gonna get one ahead really easy
if you're happy to use certain methods.
And like I said, it's kind of an open thing.
This is interesting to me,
because even though I love it,
and I love what it does,
and I've always,
this is based on a really old principle.
I'll answer your question in a minute, actually.
This is based on a really old principle,
but he has added an extra thing.
So like I said, you pick up all three,
it feels, you go, whatever.
And then this feels heavier picking up one, two,
and then it feels even heavier picking up one,
which is a really curious, lovely thing.
He's added this other thing that at the end,
he finishes off with,
that you pick up it with your weak hand,
and then you pick up with your strong hand,
which in my case will be the right hand,
and it feels heavier when you pick up with your strong hand,
which is an extra thing.
For me, again, it's a curiosity.
This is gonna kill if you get all three.
Brilliant effect.
You can make up your own mind if you get two out of three,
or if you wanna use the third separate method, whatever.
Great effect.
And it's as old as the old.
And it's actually, he got permission,
Joe Porper made a more mechanical version of this,
which is very similar to, but very different in method.
This to me, it's not, it doesn't feel like magic,
and that's fine.
Like I said, it's a unique thing, it's a quality.
You're not gonna close your one-man show with it,
but there's always a feeling of it.
It has to be in the middle,
it has to be something that you have to be very careful
as you present.
And I think as a curiosity,
it's something to talk around and tell a story around it.
It's great just as a magic trick.
And I'm not saying that anybody would think otherwise,
including the people that put it out,
but it's just he's taken a curious thing
and made it look very beautiful,
kind of mystical, depending on what your style is,
and presented it really nicely.
And that seems to be what they're doing here.
They're kind of taking objects,
presenting them really nicely.
I have looked at the coin cage.
It doesn't fit the coin that I've got,
because it fits quarters, but that's that.
Now look, these aren't cheap things either.
The infinity blocks are $80.
The Trinity board is 65.
So you're paying quite a lot.
In answer to your question, Magic Magic Man,
it's made of, it's kind of, it's a composite.
It's kind of 3D printed on a wooden,
I think it's a composite, which I don't really understand.
I'm not really good at materials,
don't really know what they are,
but what I will say, it feels very much like wood.
It feels handmade, and it feels sturdy.
It's not gonna break or start splintering
or anything like that, and it has been hand-finished.
These are made of, more, I think they are made of,
what's the word?
Carbon fiber.
Fiver?
Carbon fiber.
I'll put my face on, you're just looking at my hands there.
These are carbon fiber, oh God, I can't talk.
I've got an S speech impediment,
now I've got a V one, an F one.
Carbon.
Fiber.
Composite, that's what they are.
They don't have any caffeine, amazingly.
So that's what they're made of,
and the coin cage, even though I haven't reviewed it,
is plastic, I think.
So I thought I'd talk about them.
Very kind of them to send it to me.
Again, not something I perform,
but I think some people that look at that and go,
yeah, they'll be great.
And none of them are very hard.
So any other questions, do put them in the comments below.
I will get to them on the Thursday live sessions,
but thank you to Century Magic for sending them to me.
You get all the details, all the downloads,
everything you need, and the routines
when you get them, of course.
Thanks very much.
Check out cardmagiccourse.com.
I would do that right now when this finishes.
Cardmagiccourse.com and ask me any questions about that,
because it's an absolute bargain,
and it's very, very good.
But don't take my word for it.
Like and subscribe.
Thanks very much.
Have a great one.
Cheers, bye.
