State Republican Party Chair Paul Dame responds to Congressman Welch's campaign video announcement.
So I just saw Peter Welch's campaign video announcement
that he's running for Senate.
And I think one of the things that really struck me
was sort of this dark tone
that he's kind of taking with that.
I mean, Welch has been in Congress for well over a decade.
Vermont's delegation is caucused
with the Democratic leadership this whole time.
Democrats control the U.S. House,
the U.S. Senate, the presidency.
And Peter Welch is talking about our imperiled democracy.
If our democracy is imperiled,
I think it begs the question,
whose leadership brought us there?
The problem I have is he's already making the case
for us Vermont Republicans
that Vermont and America need new leadership,
not the same old, same old.
Welch is already following a national campaign model
where he's trying to win votes
by motivating people with fear.
And Vermonters want and they expect something better
of our U.S. Senator.
Welch does not represent the new generation
that Senator Leahy said should replace him.
And the overwhelming majority of Vermonters
want a fresh face and a new direction in Washington.
Some of the things that Welch said
are his priorities like Medicare for all,
are ideas that were already rejected
by Governor Shumlin almost eight years ago
when it was called single payer.
Peter Welch is a relic of the past
and it's time for Vermonters to choose a candidate
with an eye on the future.
And Vermont Republicans will provide voters
with options for a future that works,
not one that continues us down the path
of Welch's idea of our imperiled democracy.
As your state party chair,
I've already begun the process
of reaching out to people who've expressed an interest
in the U.S. Senate race, both private citizens
and even some currently elected officials
to gauge interest and viability,
both for the U.S. Senate and for other statewide offices.
Our candidates are not gonna be spending $6 million
to tell us what's wrong with our state
and wrong with our country,
but instead we're gonna provide a hope for a better future,
one that works better than the life we're all living now
under the control of Joe Biden and the Democrats.
So stick around, stay tuned,
and we'll have more on this soon.
