I know this is not normal for most people, but we are going to be moving bedrooms again.
When we first moved in here, the twins actually shared this room, and then we ended up moving
Ezra when he was a baby into this room, and now the two babies share this room. I call them babies,
but Ezra is four. So the main reason we're doing this, I don't really like to swap rooms like this,
but the main reason we're doing this is because we have a gift coming for the twins on Christmas
from me and Thomas. We need an entire blank wall. Their bedroom has doors on every single wall,
and so it doesn't make sense in that room. There's nothing we could do to make it make sense. So the
only way it'll work is in this room because we have an entire wall we could use for what we're
doing. I don't want to give it away because it's a Christmas present. But anyway, I know Thomas is
going to be doing a really cool design on this wall, and he probably will get it done today.
Who knows? The first thing I'm doing here is just clearing the room out, so removing all the beds,
and then I went over and swept everything, and then I used our steam mop to just really get the
floor nice and clean. I know that might not make sense because we're about to make a lot of mess
in here, but I personally love when we start makeovers to start with a really clean room.
Thomas is popping off the book wall, and we are going to be putting it in the kids' new room.
So don't worry, this wall isn't going anywhere. We did have to shorten the length of these shelves
just because they didn't quite fit in their room now, but we still have three shelves,
so we will be showing you guys that here in a video soon.
One of our twins, Simon, asked if he could come help remove some of this trim. Our twins have
been peeking in this room the entire time, so last time we did some kind of makeover for them,
it was a complete surprise, but because this was kind of spanned over a couple days, and they were
home for Thanksgiving break, it kind of made it hard to surprise them. Plus, we wanted to ask them
their opinions on what they wanted. For example, they did want to keep their wallpaper, so we did
have to order some new pill and stick wallpaper that we end up putting on one of the walls,
just because they were a little bit sad to leave that in their other room.
So for this trim, I decided to use a 4x8 sheet of MDF board. It's a quarter inch thick, and one
side has like a nice finish to it, and the other side's a little bit rougher. So make sure if you're
going to rip it down and use it as trim, that you use the smoother side of the MDF board. If you have
a good table saw and a fence, it makes it so much easier to rip these, and one person to kind of
catch the other side to make sure that it doesn't fall down or break the board, or even use a table
like I'm doing, so the weight just falls onto the table and doesn't fall to the ground. Now,
I decided to use MDF board because if you go to Home Depot or Lowe's and decide to use the finish
trim, it ends up being so much money so fast. Like one 1x4 that's eight feet long is like
$13 to $16, but by doing it this way, it ends up being a couple dollars per board that you rip
down. As long as you feel confident enough to rip it on a table saw,
and you have a decent table saw, I highly suggest doing this.
Right here you'll see that I'm using a finished piece of trim, the ones that I was talking about.
The reason I decided to use this is because I needed something thicker for the border
to hold the pieces in, because we decided to build almost like a comic bookshelf, but we didn't want
a full-blown bookshelf because it would be a little bit too thick and bulky for how much
smaller this room was than their previous room. I decided to trim it in and keep it as tight and
small to the wall as I could. By using this finished trim, it made it a lot easier. You'll
see right here that I'm spacing it with the small piece that I cut, so I know that my finished piece
will fit between the ceiling, between the window, and on the other side. I just use that as a spacer.
I've just framed it in with these regular trim pieces that I ripped down the center,
so they're the exact same size. I think it was like a three-inch piece, and I ripped it to an inch
and three, or three and a half inch board. I ripped it to an inch and three quarters, and I shot them in
down here, and then I put them up in there because they're so tight to the wall that I'm not able to
get my pinnail in there, so I would suggest shooting it in first and then putting into place
and shooting it on the side so it doesn't go anywhere. For this accent wall and the back wall,
I wanted it to be like an off-black color, so not quite black. It's not quite gray. It's like
in between, so I will have the exact color linked in the description box below it, but I love this
color with the wood that we end up going over the front for the shelves. I think the two colors, like
the contrast there, is just really beautiful. You know it's a huge remodel if we're using butter
knives. Butter knives are the best for this stuff. Dang, these are freaking long.
So for the shelves, I used a 1x4 that was three feet long and a 1x2 that was three feet long.
I ripped the 1x2 in half for the front pieces that hold the book from falling forward,
and then the 1x4 I ripped a little bit and used as the base to hold the books in for the bookshelf,
and then I just threw my level across the top to make sure that they were level,
shot them in with the pin nailer, and made sure that they were all even.
You did that with your eyeballs. You didn't even measure.
Was I going to do it with my teeth?
No, I mean like you didn't, you didn't do the thing on it. It looks great though.
I'm just saying you didn't.
Well if you were just, you were distracting me.
Just let's double check.
Just about perfect.
Oh see, sometimes you just gotta trust your guts.
So once we had this wall painted white, I realized it needed something else on it,
so we decided to do some kind of design here. I wanted to have a big piece of trim,
and then Thomas came up with some kind of design for the bottom half.
I didn't think about all these like weird.
Well, so that's why wherever this one goes, we'll divide like,
we'll make it so it comes here, right? And this one will go up and up.
This one will come down and go down and down maybe.
Yeah, so whatever, maybe three no matter what, and then just make them even.
So wherever the center is. Except for will that make it?
Well, let's find out where it's at.
So 76 inches.
25.3.
So.
Well, no, you gotta divide it by four.
Because, do you get what I'm saying?
So like if you did two pieces, then that would divide.
You'd have three sections.
But you need four sections.
So 19 inches.
How many?
19. So see, that might land you right on that.
Oh, right in the middle. What do you know?
Okay.
I don't know.
What's nine plus nine?
About 18.
18. So 38.
Okay, that's perfect. I love that.
Listen, I don't hear that very often. So that was nice.
I know. I wasn't thinking.
Real nice, Clark.
So Thomas is now just installing the pill and stick wallpaper.
This is a Star Wars one that they had in their room before.
So it's the exact same kind.
And I will be sure to have this linked in the description box below.
We did end up moving their Christmas tree closer to their bed.
But I wanted to show you a quick shot of it.
So you can see the bed with a decorative trim and the bookshelf.
I actually had Thomas build this shelf specifically for the twin Star Wars comics.
But I have no idea where they went.
We had an entire wall of them in their room.
And when we went to film this after shot, I could not find them anywhere.
So that is the purpose of these really thin shelves.
The reason that he made them so thin was for the Star Wars comics.
So eventually these shelves will be filled with their comics.
But for now, they've just kind of stuck some of their books inside.
Like I said at the beginning of this video,
this front wall, as you're walking into the room,
there will be something that will go here.
And it'll be here after Christmas.
So this toy bin will actually be removed.
And then we will have all of this space to work with.
So it kind of looks plain over here right now.
But in the next couple of weeks, we will have something that will go here.
I did want to thank Bettys for sponsoring this portion of this video.
If you guys are not familiar with Bettys,
that is the kind of bedding that we have on the twins' beds.
And what makes Bettys really unique is they actually zip all the way closed.
So when you're making your bed every morning, you just zip it closed.
It's really great, especially for kids and especially for bunk beds,
because it's really hard to make bunk beds.
My kids have absolutely loved sleeping on their bunk bed now.
They've had this bunk bed for a while, but we just had normal blankets.
And it's almost impossible to make the bed,
especially really neat and tidy and like tucking everything in on a bunk bed.
So they have just loved making their bed in the morning because it's so easy.
They just jump out, zip the bed up, and then throw their pillows on.
So I feel like I could go on and on on reasons why I love their bedding.
But I would have to say the top two is the quality
and the softness of their blankets and obviously the zipping,
because that just makes my life and my kids' life so much easier.
So I brought Thomas in here so I can show this a little bit easier.
I wanted to show you guys how this bedding fits onto a mattress.
So you can see this is just a giant fitted sheet,
like the blanket acts as the fitted sheet.
And then it's 100% washable, obviously.
I also wanted to show you just how you zip and unzip.
So when the kids get into bed every night, this is how they get in.
It zips all the way down, so the whole thing will unzip off,
which makes it for a lot easier washing.
And then it's really easy for them to make the bed every morning.
They just zip it up and their beds are perfectly made.
I love that it's like a sheet under the blanket.
Yeah, so like the sheets there, it's minky blanket underneath,
so it's like really, really soft.
But I love it most because the top bunk looks good all the time.
Like that is the hardest bed to make.
I have one question.
Yeah.
Are adults allowed to have these?
Yes, they have adult ones.
Do you know that?
Don't mess with me.
What do you mean?
They have a ton of different patterns.
So this is just the pattern we chose for this room.
I knew you guys would be asking
because this is like a huge statement piece in the bedroom is this bedding.
I do have a discount code for you guys.
You can actually get 15% off
and I will have that linked in the description box below.
So be sure to check out the description box to see the link
and then you will see my discount code listed there as well.
Well, that's everything for this video.
Thank you guys so much for watching and we will see you guys in the next video.
