The Avatar Recap to watch before Avatar 2

Hey everyone, AvatarGuy here. The new Avatar sequels finally arrived so I thought it would be a good idea to recap the first movie in a concise way. Let's get started. Avatar takes place in 2154 and humans have travelled outside of the solar system to Pandora, a moon in the Alpha Centauri star system. On Pandora, a corporation called the RDA mines a valuable mineral called Unobtanium that sells for 20 million dollars a kilo back on Earth. Pandora is inhabited by the Navi, which are large blue humanoids that live in harmony with nature. It's atmosphere is poisonous to humans so to explore Pandora safely, human scientists remotely pilot Navi-human hybrids called Avatars. Avatars are genetically matched to their pilots. The protagonist of the story is a disabled marine called Jake Sully who is sent to Pandora to replace his dead twin who had been an Avatar operator. Avatar Programmer Head Dr. Grace Augustine considers Sully more of a hazard than a help but accepts him as a bodyguard. While escorting Grace, Jake's Avatar is attacked by Pandora wildlife and he flees into the forest where he is rescued by Neytiri. After seeing many wood sprites land on him, she sees it as a sign and takes him back to her clan, the Omaticaya. Neytiri's mother Moat, spiritual leader of the clan, orders Jake to be trained in the Navi ways. Quarich, head of the RDA security force, offers to pay for an expensive surgery to give Jake the use of his legs back but only in exchange for information on Home Tree which is where the Omaticaya live and has a large unobtainable deposit underneath. Learning of Quarich's interference, Grace transfers the main Avatar team, including herself and Jake, to a remote outpost. Jake continues to learn the Navi ways with Neytiri as his guide. He tames a Banshee and learns how to fly the creature. Jake is initiated into the clan as one of their own and becomes Neytiri's lover. The RDA's bulldozers trample over a sacred Navi site, causing the Navi to attack the humans. As a result, RDA Administrator Selfridge gives the go-ahead for Quarich to destroy Home Tree. In an attempt to get the Navi to flee Home Tree, Jake confesses that he was a spy but it backfires and the Navi take him and Grace captive. Quarich leads the RDA gunships and attacks and destroys Home Tree. Everyone at the remote outpost are captured and put in a cell, but they manage to escape. However, Quarich shoots Grace as they leave. Jake manages to regain the Navi's trust by connecting his mind to that of Toruk, a huge dragon-like creature that feeds on Banshees and is feared and revered by the Navi. They attempt to transfer Grace into her Avatar with the aid of the Tree of Souls, but the ritual fails and Grace dies. Jake unites the Navi clans and starts building a force to attack the humans. Quarich learns of this and decides to strike first at the Tree of Souls before the Navi forces grow even bigger. Before the factions clash, Jake connects to the Tree of Souls to speak to the planet-wide goddess Ewa to warn them the humans have killed their own planet and are trying to do the same here on Pandora. A huge battle is waged with Jake leading the Navi and Quarich leading the humans. However, the Navi are outgunned by the human forces and are taking heavy losses. The tide is turned when Pandora and wildlife join the battle and overwhelm the humans. Neytiri sees this as a sign that Ewa has heard Jake's message. Quarich escapes his crashing ship and breaks open the Avatar link unit containing Jake's human body, exposing it to Pandora's poisonous atmosphere. Quarich prepares to slit Jake's throat but is killed by Neytiri who saves Jake from suffocation, seeing his human form for the first time. With the exceptions of a select few, humans are expelled from Pandora and Jake is finally transferred into his Avatar permanently.
