We were hoping to add a nice new window we had left over from our solar shed build, but wouldn't you know it...things didn't go as planned. So we switched things up and made something else instead.

Well, we're in a different place today.
Today is day 50, guys.
Why are we in our garage?
It's really cold outside.
Super windy.
And we have a few things that we need to make in here.
Like what?
Our window frame.
We're going to put a window in the back of the coop above the nesting box.
Mm hmm.
And we need to make some cleats.
OK, and it's going to be the window goes on top of that lintel.
Yeah. So we need to lock the lintel in
and then put this on top of it.
Yeah, but we're going to make all the things in here
and stay in here as long as possible and then go out into the cold
and install it.
Yeah, that's the plan for today.
Very short day because we are running out of time.
This is a build day, not an earthbag day.
Sometimes that's just how it goes.
So this window is actually from the solar shed.
We were going to have four windows on the clear story up top,
but realized we couldn't fit that many up there
and we actually started putting it together.
So we had this sitting around.
So we're going to try to stick it
in the chicken coop so we can get some ventilation and sunlight.
Well, test fit was good.
We're not leaving it in, though, because we're going to mount this in
and then, you know, put bags around it and stuff.
And there's no point in putting glass in until we're sure
that the walls are finished around.
Welcome back to Fun Fact Friday.
Did you know that the national animal of Scotland is a unicorn?
It's not going to work, guys.
Big problem.
Our window is too big.
Our nesting boxes are too tall for the slope of this roof.
So we're not going to be putting that window in.
So I'm going to make a window
that has hardware cloth on it, and I'll eventually make shutter doors
to where we can close it in the winter, but keep it open in the summer.
A little bit bummed, but we're still going to make it work.
So it's kind of hard to tell,
but we really only wanted this.
This part over here is the ceiling is going to go down across this outside wall.
We only wanted to be about six and a half feet tall
so we didn't have to go up super high on the chicken coop.
But that's way higher than six and a half feet tall right there.
So that's throwing everything off.
So by pulling it down a foot, I think we should be closer.
But my window, maybe my window will look like that instead.
Yeah, it'll be just a little shorter, like one by three
instead of two by three.
We'll make it work.
Look, it's so cute.
OK, now this should be better.
That looks much better.
I'll be good.
That way it touches the other one and gives a little more support.
But I want to put hardware cloth on it before we install.
Yeah, so we also realized this will be exposed.
So we need to shishigi bonnet before we put it in place.
So do that first.
We definitely rolled with the punches today.
We started with one thing, ended up with something completely different.
But I like it. I think it's going to be really good.
Yeah, I'm going to put like a door that can shut off for the wintertime
and then we'll leave it open in the summer.
Yeah. On this little makeshift window we did.
Cool. So now that we have that done and we've got everything cleated in place,
we can keep doing earth bags on the coop going up
and then we can keep going on the circle, too.
Yeah. So tomorrow more earth bags and I'll probably be cutting more bottles.
Yeah. More bottles.
That's all for today, guys.
