THINGS WERE NOT OK. Leah takes a step outside of her comfort zone when we enter an underground river, the Cave Stream Scenic Reserve. This seemingly harmless hike was ABSOLUTELY INSANE, a little terrifying, and very wet! After we crawl out of the cave, we continue our road trip through Arthur's Pass to Hokitika. The sunset on the west coast of New Zealand is not to be missed, as well as the beautiful glow worms! There was so much to this day, we were absolutely exhausted by the end of it!

It was also really scary. Yes!
Good morning. We did not sleep last night.
We were in the car for 8 hours. It was the coldest I've been in months, and I just spent 4 months in Antarctica.
So, I just guess we weren't prepared to go car camping. We didn't have any blankets.
So we might not be doing that again.
But today, we are about to go into an icy cold cave.
And so that's the first thing we're doing.
So if we weren't cold enough, I have flip flops on and swim trunks.
And apparently the water gets up to chest high.
So we're going to walk through a cave, or trek through a cave.
That's completely dark. Exactly.
That's going to take an hour to get through.
So like, let's go!
And that's where we're going.
Cool!
We finally made it down to the river, and it is pretty icy.
Like the temperature is already dropping.
It's cold.
We're going to be very cold on this trip.
We're also the first people to do this today.
No one else was in the parking lot when we showed up.
So, I hope it's not too high, but if it is, we might be swimming.
What about this?
Oh my god. Oh, okay.
Wow.
Okay, I'm awake now.
Okay, so we've done the Narrows in Zion National Park, and that was a really cold river.
We were in that for up to 3 hours.
I think we can do this, but the only thing is the sun isn't going to be on us.
So it's not going to be warm. Nope.
And we have a phone as our flashlight.
Because we forgot our headlamp.
So we're improvising, and we'll see if we can make it through.
Please lord, let us survive.
Woo!
So it is awesome in here, but it is cold.
I recommend a jacket.
Zach doesn't have any jacket on. He's crazy.
What's really cool about this is that it's amazing, but that it's absolutely free to go to.
This is really scary.
Yes.
Oh, okay.
So, once you're halfway in the cave, you can't turn around.
Yeah.
And at one point I took a picture, and then Leah's phone, which was our light, died.
And I started freaking out.
We have no light.
Luckily, it turned back on.
We had 10% left, by which point we sprinted up the waterfalls.
I was really proud of you.
Thank you.
And then at the end, not only do we have to go up that huge, huge, huge ladder,
but we had, like, eight children watching us as we did it with, like, hard hats and gear on.
And they were like, what are you guys doing?
And it was great.
I mean, it was humiliation because we just finished a gigantic trek.
Yeah, well, I didn't really care at all.
I was just like, oh, wow.
There's a lot of people watching us literally crawl out of this thing.
This is embarrassing, kind of.
Maybe next time.
Oh, you're not doing it again.
I'm not doing it again.
I'll bring people back here if they want to come because that was incredible.
All right.
We have made it to our hotel.
It's the Pioneer Hotel in Hokitika.
It's only $42 a night, which is a pretty good deal for New Zealand.
And it has Wi-Fi.
It has a restaurant.
It has a bar.
It's got shared bathrooms.
It's got a fan.
It's got our own little sink.
It's literally everything we needed after that rough night of sleeping in our car.
Now we have made it to downtown Hokitika.
It's, like, 10 minutes from our apartment.
And we are going to watch the sunset.
This place is so cute.
I wish we had a little bit more time here.
Unfortunately, I took a nap earlier today because I was so exhausted from last night.
And I'm really sad.
What is this?
This is so creative.
We have made it to the...
Glowworm cave.
Which I have no idea what that means.
But it's dark.
We're going to go in a cave and see if we can see glowworms.
I have no idea what that means.
I don't know what this means.
That was so cool.
Glowworms.
I didn't know they even existed.
Apparently what makes them glow is that they have, like, essentially their kidney.
It has this weird chemical in it that glows.
And, like, every insect has the same body part.
But not all of them have, like, bioluminescence inside their body.
So it's really cool.
That is crazy.
I've never seen bioluminescence.
This is my first time.
And it was amazing.
I missed out, like, three different times because I was like, oh, it's not going to be that cool.
That was really cool.
But it definitely is.
We were walking up the hill and all of a sudden this voice out of nowhere was like,
Turn your light off!
And we were like...
Yeah.
But we're...
Okay.
But today was amazing.
This video was awesome.
We had so much fun shooting it.
I think my favorite part of this video was the beach and the sunset and just, like,
watching the sun fade to darkness because we didn't see that in Antarctica.
My favorite part was probably the glowworms.
Because I think this is just so unexpectedly cool.
And it was so close to the trailhead and it was really easy.
It was really awesome.
And we couldn't really take many photos because, like, they're just so dimly lit that you can't
take a photo.
Thankfully our camera is really good in the dark.
So we got some time lapses.
But yeah, we were really, really lucky.
It was really cool.
It was awesome.
We're making it.
We made it.
So right now we are at the famed Devil's Punch Bowl.
On our way from Chrysler to...
What's it...
Bukitiki?
Shoot!
Bukitika!
