Let's try Remi's line, yeah that's pretty cool.
All right so it's the last day of the Whistler trip and right now I'm headed to do a little bit
of an interview. I'm not exactly sure what I'm expecting but uh yeah we're gonna figure that
out right now. What's that? Have you been here before many times? This is probably my fifth time.
You kind of you kind of have to come here often as a pro bike right?
I mean this is like this is ground zero for mountain biking. Yeah so how do I properly say
Metz silent K but I couldn't care less. The more confusing part is like some people who have that
last name do pronounce the K. There is no consistency. Yeah exactly. Hi I'm Ian Morrison.
Hi I'm Phil Metz or Phil K Metz if you spell phonetically like myself. This is the opening
weekend of the Whistler Bike Park. Question for you, do you prefer I address the camera or just
look at? For now like here um if you guys are having chat you can just kind of. Okay you'd
rather be a fly on the wall. Yeah I think it will be better if you have a conversation with him.
Dropped my goggles yesterday now I'm stressed out I'm gonna drop them. Yeah first time in my life.
I'm gonna go do a warm-up lap and uh crank it up here. Phil's got a couple local lines that I don't
really know about you know he's been here five times but he's uh figured it out pretty fast
apparently that's coming from Trev. Trev seems to know everything that I don't. Phil has some
crazy lines that I've never seen in local much. Shall we? We shall. All right and that's as much
pedaling as I want to do. It's always funny to hear someone talking behind you.
Some of those uh berms are getting developing some nasty ruts. Some little slumps in them.
Trevor did this stupid thing down there so we're gonna go do that.
What was your first ever full suspension mess bike? So that would be uh Kona Stinky Supreme.
Is that like an 05? Yeah 05 yeah I think it was 05 it was uh like the Battleship Gray
and uh basketball tire pressure. Oh yeah for sure I mean if your tires don't move you're gonna roll
faster. You might grip less but you're definitely gonna be faster. Exactly. All right well uh whatever
that trail down there is that goes that way. I went a little deep there. That's a good one.
All right we gotta get down to brass tacks here. Brass tacks? Yeah. I don't even know what that means.
I don't either. It sounds good. That's kind of what we're going for. So you own your place in Vermont?
Yeah it wasn't because of the pandemic because we were we were looking at buying
that year anyway but it coincided with the pandemic. I'm still like hesitant to pull
these moves and like my my wife was just like I'm gonna do all the paperwork let's do this and
I'm glad like she was kind of more full speed ahead. Yeah yeah I need that sometimes.
Head over that way? Yeah just tell me where to stop and do you want us to wait for you on the road
Super close. All right you ready?
It's a good little pull up into that like out of the first left
under the rock. Yeah I felt a little sluggish this time on it.
Maybe it's the day three of Whistler catching up with me.
I had Bernie like feel my bike he was like yeah your bike's pretty stiff.
Unless my bike is way too stiff. Some scary bottom out. Yeah.
I mean I think we can drop in and then we'll just wait after Ninja Cougar.
I'm gonna try to warn you of that split off I did right there.
The bridge case. That was a good save. What do you think you're gonna do now?
Samurai Hochi or Samurai Afternoon? I'm gonna go Samurai Afternoon.
All right this is the first time I've got a chance to ride this
this weekend. Oh came up a little short on the samurai pizza cap pull.
I thought I was gonna hear. What's just about freezing in Fahrenheit?
32. We keep you on your toes. You know zero would be far too logical. 32 makes a lot more sense.
You know I actually do like Fahrenheit. Is it more precise? No zero is like really cold.
100 is really hot but if you're doing anything where you need to do any conversions yeah.
So tell me yesterday you started your YouTube profiling trails in Highland more or less.
Yeah at the time I never expected anyone to want to watch me ride trails. It was not something I
thought was going to be the future like so I started doing YouTube tutorials. I didn't know
how to use a camera at the time so I watched a bunch of tutorials on YouTube about how to use a
camera and in the process I learned that there's a whole community surrounding cameras and like
filmmaking on YouTube. I was like that doesn't exist for mountain biking and it should. So
I've shown you some of my lines how about uh you show me some of our local lines.
Hope you like sitting on your seat bed. That's where I got a dropper post. All right let's see
what he's got. Oh I like that one. What's up man how you doing? Not too bad. We are.
Let's do it. You all right?
Here let me take your you need your bike. I don't want to be rude but it might be easier to keep
moving but nice to meet you guys. I just don't want to cause a pile up. What happened? Yeah I
didn't know. Did you just go like super deep on that? I didn't see anything wrong. I thought he
just kind of got off line here so I was laughing and then I realized that. Well it wouldn't be a
good video without a wipeout. Yeah we needed we needed some drama. It's a good beginning of the
video. Classic scenario. I'll leave you with my good friend Trevor Burke. Maybe I'll hand the
camera over to him for a little a-line lap. Yeah the old host is uh coming out of retirement
because Ian just uh blew his ankle up on fade to black. You got some big shoes to fill. Big shoes.
All right and of course you gotta go down a-line to end this off. Trevor's got those
nose manuals on lockdown. Right here just trying to gap off this even with one footer in it.
So take a good look at these berms because they're never gonna look so good this year.
Oh yeah this is the first time I've seen this open this year.
We'll be both just cased the absolute crap out of that. Oh we nailed the timing.
Nice one buddy. That was awesome. Sending you some healing vibes.
Yeah come on man. All right man. Thanks for everything. Yeah absolutely. Oh hello.
I'm a free agent now I can go do stuff.
Well okay let's do one more. I try to get this skinny every time. What's what's skinny?
All right maybe I have to give myself a little bit more credit.
I kind of bailed early but right here. Where am I going?
Oh yeah lovely. Oh what is this? That's like a choose your own adventure the whole way down.
Yeah in hindsight maybe I should have got you to follow me because there's a couple lines that are
not. There's lines that are not good. Look at that. All true. That's the far one on the left?
All right so I just got to tighten my wheel so.
That was loose. You're gonna be throwing any big no handers or you gotta keep it
stanky one footers?
Dude good riding with you man. Yeah no sweet. You got free time to ride the shore let me know.
All right let's go do some more Whistler laps.
Let's go to Phil. Yeah we've met before I used to work at G1.
Dude I'm Evan. Phil nice to meet you man. This is grandmother Josh. How's it going guys?
What are you guys riding? We just did crank it up. Yeah joyride you can do it up here and then
it stops at crank it up joyride park. Is it good? All right sure. What's your name man? Josh. Josh
nice to meet you man. How often do you get up here? 25 times a year. That's quite a bit. How
many tickets do you need to buy before you it's worth getting a pass? It used to be 14 but I'm
not sure now. I think it's only like 12. Yeah I think it's less. Yeah it's almost 90 bucks for a
day pass. Yeah you don't get a discount anymore. Yeah no discounts huh? So yeah 12. If you go 13
it's worth it I guess. All right I thought you had a better sense of this trail than I did so
see what line C takes. It's a little hot. Oh yeah I like it. I like that.
You going faster for it? You want to go first? No I love following different people.
Oh no. Well have a good ride buddy. Oh shoot. Yeah I have this whole pack but I have nothing in it.
Yeah I'll just motor down. All right man thanks for showing me around. I'm curious to know where
he did it. I'm gonna go review the footage. Okay so I'm pretty sure I've never done this trail.
Okay I have multiple options here. Let's go this way. Oh that's this trail. Gotcha.
I've seen it on there left a million times but I've never done it. Okay now I'm on a
Canadian Open now. How you doing man? Not too bad. Where have you guys been lapping?
I don't know. I am really undecided. It's like it's really hard
not to go back to A-Line. I'll follow you guys. Where are you riding? What the heck is Ninja Bear?
You are like the most in real life troll.
All right note to self. Do not listen to this kid or anything that comes out of his mouth.
It's only taken me like 10 minutes to figure that out. What's going on over there?
Oh no. Hold on. You can fix that? You brought your hanger. Let's...
All right shift into a harder gear. Leave it there and don't shift. What would you guys like to do?
It's your choice. Layered way is preferable. Yeah let's do something like that. This will be fun.
Build a switcheroo. Yeah. What happened? I have bottomed out like three times.
You're going too fast. Need for speed. Exactly. I'll follow you.
You went deep off that drop. Want to do what's it called? Devils? Yeah let's do something over there.
All right give them a little space. Let's do it. Sorry about that man.
All right this is riding so much better than it was the other day. You can actually see.
Still don't trust the wood though. I'm not a shralper ball. Watch you shralp.
All right. All right that was a good one.
Hold on. I think I need to check your tire pressure. Let's check this tire pressure here.
You're a little bit low buddy. Yeah you're kind of cheating there.
Oh thanks man. Appreciate it.
I'm coming out to do like Highland or something this year. Are you? If you can, if you're looking
to get more than one mountain, maybe try to chain up Highland and then go to Thunder,
Highland, or Killington. Okay awesome. Nice to meet you man. Oh that was dirty.
That was awesome. It's a pleasure. I don't make any promises but there's a good chance you will.
That was awesome guys. Have a good one. Have a good day. We meet again. Hey how's it going?
What do you do in Ontario? I'm a truck mechanic by trade and I own my own truck shop out there now
now for like six years. How'd you get into that? I don't really know. It was something to do.
Like it's, well you know what it was? Like I used to be big into racing motocross and like I
was either go to school and then like stop riding motocross and doing fun stuff that I
or like do a trade where I kind of get paid to like play still the whole time. I kind of wish in
school I was pushed more towards a trade. I actually ended up going to culinary school. I'd
be so wiped out from like doing a 12-hour shift that like the last thing I wanted to do was go
ride a bike. I jumped out early because I knew it wasn't for me. How's it going? Yeah. How you doing?
Not too bad. How are you guys doing? Pretty good. You made it up for opening weekend. Yeah I am.
I subscribe to your channel. Well thanks man. I love watching your videos.
Thanks man. Have a good ride. Yeah you too guys. I'm just trying to maximize my hang time
because I won't get this for a long time. There's plenty of tech trails back home. There's no,
there's no a-line. So ready? I got it that time.
Starting to get to know that trail after you've done it like 30 times.
I've never seen that one from like the one side up onto the rock. Yeah.
That's one of my favorite. Fade to black?
That was a near-death experience. Barely pulled that one out. Finally committed to the manual
across that one bridge on fade to black. Yeah. I could feel my front wheel just dropping. How do
you find mountain biking compared to your background in dirt bikes? I like the, I like
motocross a lot. Yep. What I like about mountain biking is like more places to ride and like less
time on maintenance. Yeah. Yeah. Did you race motocross or? I did for a couple years yeah.
I raced BMX and like BMX was pretty cutthroat. I can't imagine
how cutthroat being on like the gate with like what 30 other people like.
You got any nasty scrubs or anything or? Not really I'll follow you. All right well give them a little.
All right I don't think we need to give him much space. All right let's try Remy's line.
That was pretty cool. A little too far. That was my best a-line lap of the day.
It's six o'clock I think I'm gonna call it. Nice to meet you it's Kyle by the way. Kyle nice to
meet you man. All right well on that note that's where I'm gonna end off this Whistler series.
If you haven't seen my other videos I'll link to them in the description below. I'm stoked but I'm
absolutely beat. Anyways my name is Phil Kmetz. Thanks for playing bikes with me today and I'll
see you guys next time. Peace!
