I'm flying to Pittsburgh to give a talk at the Pittsburgh University. Then I flew to back to Seattle. And from Seattle, I flew out on Asiana Airlines Business Class to Manila, Philippines.
Good morning.
We've got to stop meeting like this.
I think we both need a little more sleep.
This trip, it's a little different than the ones I've been on before.
Right now, I'm heading to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
I haven't been there since my comic book days, where I used to go to the Steel City Comic
Con and eat at, uh, there's a restaurant where they serve sandwiches in fron- forgot the
name.
Sandwiches with fries in there.
That's awesome.
I was actually invited by the University of Pittsburgh to give a talk, uh, have, uh, some
notes jotted down.
And I am kind of curious to see how many people actually watch my show in Pittsburgh, so I'm
excited.
It's gonna be fun.
Whoa, just got off my first flight.
I don't think I've ever had a connection where- there's my gate.
I just got off.
Going to- right there.
Usually it's like I'm running through the airport.
Oh, the lion chick-fil-a is insane.
McDonald's?
Not as much.
Actually, I just realized I only have about 10 minutes and I'm not proud of this, but
I'm starving and time is of the essence.
Fun fact, Mongolian beef actually does not exist.
If you go to Mongolia, they don't have a beef dish called Mongolian beef.
They actually don't have a lot of beef, period.
A lot of lamb.
This is the only place without a huge line at this airport.
I look so sad.
Oh, wow.
I now have exactly 6 minutes to eat.
That sausage and the onions are fresh.
One minute spare.
A lot of people think I eat a lot, and I do, but actually, my secret superpower, I eat
really fast.
See you in Pittsburgh.
Just landed.
I think I'm gonna head to the hotel.
I think there's a car somewhere.
Head to the hotel and then- then the talks tonight.
I have no idea how many people's actually showing up to this.
I think like 10 or something.
About to give a talk, but I'm starving.
I'm gonna have to go look for like a cookie or something.
Get me through this.
Alright, let's see if the commercials are real.
So this is Robert.
I'm the vice president of finance.
You're the vice president of finance.
Yeah, so I deal with the money.
Yeah.
Invite people to come over.
What is it, Asian?
Student alliance.
At the University of Pittsburgh.
How many people's in your alliance?
Active members, we have about- I would say about 200 to 300 people.
This is good.
Brownie brittle.
I like anything that has brownie in there.
It's pretty good.
It's pretty good, right?
This girl knows what she's doing.
This is Melanie.
Hi.
So she brought- what is this?
Introduce us to the two drinks, please.
Iced kumquat.
Iced kumquat?
Iced kumquat yogurt.
You guys are fancy here in Pittsburgh.
I had the matcha before, so I'm gonna try this.
Mmm.
Oh, it's good.
It's like bubble tea juice.
We're about to go head over and start the process.
I'm gonna highlight.
You guys gotta find some better highlights.
Hey, I'm part of this.
Are you really?
Yeah.
I said you're part.
Heck yeah.
Yo.
Brings back memories of collegiate good times.
Wow.
Say bye.
It was good?
It was good talk?
Good talk?
Alright, cool, cool.
I wanna make sure.
Alright, now we're gonna go eat.
You hungry?
Yes, I am very hungry.
Alright.
Bunch of hungry people.
Find some food that's still open at 10pm.
Alright, it's dinner time.
We're at this place.
It looks like someone's apartment.
Whoa.
Fancy takoyaki.
Go ahead, buddy.
Take the first bite.
It's so good.
It's like, it's literally melting in your mouth.
And then the mayo, oh my goodness.
Whenever you see pork belly, you get it.
That's the rule in life.
Not bad.
It's pretty good.
That's great.
That is smoky.
I'm gonna save some for my dog.
This might go really good with the rice.
Wow, look at this.
That's a big ass rib.
My favorite part about this.
Oh, it's not even runny.
Oh, life is over.
You have fun.
See you later.
You're amazing.
Hey, good morning.
It's not 4 o'clock in the morning.
It's 3 in the morning.
So this is part of a much longer trip.
I'm not just in Pittsburgh.
I gotta head to the airport,
flight back to Seattle
where I'm catching my flight to the Philippines.
I'm invited to this travel convention by Klook Travel.
So I'm giving a little talk at this festival
which is happening in Manila, Philippines.
And I can't wait to go back
because I arranged a couple of awesome food tours.
Of course, Philippines,
one of my favorite places in the world.
Luckily, I'm super jet lagged,
so 3 a.m., not too bad.
Yay.
That is so much better than just hash browns.
I think waffle fries taste better than regular fries.
I think it's because of the name.
Waffle fries.
It's got like two things we love.
Not just fries.
Waffle fries.
I'm so happy this place.
I thought I was just gonna be able to get like a biscuit.
And I saw they had like some kind of spicy thing.
I didn't know it was the actual spicy sandwich.
It's 5 in the morning.
Who serves like real sandwiches
at these fast food places?
This is amazing.
It tastes like I bit into a fruit.
Check this out.
See how much juice is in this?
That's not coming from the tomato.
That's juice inside the chicken.
Gusher of a chicken sandwich.
They use a good amount of heat.
It's flavored well.
Exceeded my expectations.
Thank you Chick-fil-A
for serving something other than like a biscuit
in the morning.
I gotta eat, get on my flight.
Got a really tight connection.
About 30 minutes.
And I have to make that connection.
Because if I don't,
I'm gonna miss my flight to the Philippines.
That's gonna be really, really bad.
Back in Seattle.
All my flights were on time.
All my connections were made.
Now on to the Philippines.
I'm gonna recheck my bag.
And then I'm gonna run home
because the vlogging camera,
I'm gonna be using a new vlogging camera.
It just arrived at my house.
I'm gonna go get it.
My next flight is only in a couple hours.
I ordered this one before,
but then the last camera I got
was a little defective.
It was, when I was filming,
it kept showing up little wavy lines.
Alright, got everything done.
Now it's time to race back to the airport.
It's the same Lyft driver.
Yeah, I'm waiting.
You were waiting for me?
Yeah.
Were you really?
Yeah.
That's funny.
Thanks dude.
I'm at this airport way too much.
I'm having a really, really good time.
I still have like an hour
before my boarding.
Six minutes left.
It's boarding time.
Like I'm feeling anxious.
The gate is not even close
to where I am right now.
I gotta get this one video up
before I take off.
It's been saying it's less than a minute
until completion.
Let's go.
I have to take a train
to the next building
to get to my gate.
I don't even really know
how to get there,
but I have 20 minutes
before my flight takes off.
Asian Airlines is a Korean airline,
so we're making a connection
at Incheon.
Haven't been back in Korea
in a long, long time.
I think I flew this airline business class
once before.
Don't remember much,
but I think it was three years ago.
Let me show you around
my little space.
Ew.
Generous gifting
from province.
Are these good?
Ladies, gentlemen, like
are these...
Should I keep these?
Socks,
dental stuff,
Kleenex,
a little comb
so when you wake up with bed head,
you can take care of that right away.
So the configuration here
is like single row
on either side
and two in the middle.
You have the dining table here.
Little jacket rack.
Really not a lot of storage space
for you.
You get like a little nook here.
So I'm gonna put my GoPro
and my light.
Tore it over.
That was pretty quick.
I don't see the menu yet,
but
very excited for that reading material.
First thing you gotta do,
wipe everything down.
Everything.
It's a gross.
Wipe the side
of your seat down
because most likely
your head's gonna hit that.
You don't want a nasty head.
Smoked duck and scallop,
mushroom cream soup,
beef tenderloin with steak.
Western menu looks pretty good.
Okay.
Smoked duck,
seafood pancake,
hobakjuk.
There's always a bibimbap.
I think this airline
and the Korean airline,
they serve the same bibimbap.
It's the same thing they serve
whether you're flying first class,
business class,
or economy.
It's the same dish.
Bean jelly,
sweet rice cake,
and as a snack,
beef short rib.
It's my kind of a snack.
Egg fried rice,
abalone porridge,
and this is the anytime item
so you get sandwiches,
ramen noodle.
All right.
As much as I don't want a bibimbap,
I also don't really want a steak
or a piece of fish.
And I do want a sweet rice cake.
So this choice is mainly decided
by the appetizers and the desserts.
Korean menu it is.
I think for the last few
international flights I've been on,
as soon as I was about to eat,
always crazy turbulence.
This is,
ooh, oh my god.
Scallop's okay.
It's a bit sweet.
Goes good with the tea.
Smoked duck.
Smoked duck's better.
This plane was wobbling
like a jello during an earthquake
and they're still moving on
with the meal service.
This is my bibimbap
with instructions.
And my seafood pancake.
Kind of sad looking
little seafood pancakes.
Also sad tasting
seafood pancakes.
They're so dry.
It's kind of cold.
All right, lukewarm.
It's like eating eggs,
scallops,
and cardboard
at the same time.
This is the pumpkin soup.
You know, I swear to goodness,
I feel like Korean Airlines
and Asiana
has exactly
the same meal.
Except for that
seafood pancake.
It's like the same thing.
Pumpkin soup,
bibimbap.
This is bad.
It tastes like somebody
took a pumpkin,
mashed it up in my bowl
with some water,
and just walked away.
It has absolutely
zero flavor.
So far,
it's pretty bad food
on this airline.
Regardless of how this tastes,
A plus on the presentation.
Look at this.
Beautiful bowls,
all different shapes and sizes.
It's gorgeous.
Add in the rice.
Sesame oil.
Chili sauce.
And just mix
all that together
with the veggies and the meat.
You can eat it with some kimchi.
Seafood soup's not bad.
It's delicious, but
the thing is,
as delicious as this is,
if you're paying for business class,
you're eating the same thing
that you could have gotten
at the economy,
like the Asian part of me,
it feels a little ripped off.
This is definitely
the best thing I've had so far here.
The appetizers and the soup,
just horrible.
I think they actually
ran out of the Western menu
because most people
were opting for the Western menu.
And honestly,
I would suggest you
do the same thing
if you're flying
both Korean Air and Asiana.
It's good, but
it's a bibimbap.
You know?
Don't make my mistake.
Get yourself a steak.
Oh, that kind of rhymes.
Just a store-bought rice cracker
and like a red bean cake.
It's great.
I mean, it's bought from a store,
but it tastes great.
Big old chunks
of sweet red bean in there.
Mmm.
Like a rice puff
with a orange flavor.
Might be my favorite thing
this whole entire meal.
I'm gonna take a picture of this.
Go home and
buy some of this.
I'm gonna wait
until they finish wrapping
everything up because
I'm still hungry
and
for a bowl of instant noodles.
Man, that was...
I needed that sleep.
Like, I haven't slept
in like two days.
The space is actually
really, really tiny.
If I go like this,
my arm's already in the aisle.
This is your space,
right here.
This is your space.
So really,
you can't shift a lot.
The width of the seat
is definitely way smaller
than most other
business class seats.
I was exhausted,
so
I still slept a good
five hours.
Let's get some of those though.
Can I get a ramen
and a cheese and ham sandwich?
This is just
a bowl of regular instant noodles
with a bit of mushrooms
and scallions on top.
But, oh my god,
does it ever look
inviting.
I mean, there's just
something comforting
about flying
30,000 feet in the air
and having instant noodles.
You can have it
with a side of kimchi
and radish.
And the
cheese sandwich
is just a
ham and cheese sandwich.
I'm pretty sure,
like, I'm not even
100% sure,
this is just
cheap instant noodles.
I got no problem
with that.
I love cheap noodles.
I used to eat
four packs a day
for lunch.
That's surprisingly
delicious.
Toasty bread
and melty cheese.
This is a good
ham and cheese sandwich.
I'm surprised
they were able to make this.
I'd be happy if I got this
at a restaurant.
But, like I was saying,
when delicious worlds
combine,
enjoying this
morning dinner,
this is such a good
combo.
Spicy, delicious,
instant noodles.
Perfect with a
cheesy porky sandwich.
This bread is
glorious.
They somehow made it
very crispy.
I mean, that was good.
So once you dip it,
the bread soaks up
all that soup
while still retaining
its crunch
on the outer shell.
That's magic
at 35,000 feet.
Not exaggerating
a little bit.
This is so good.
I should just have
this instead of
the bibimbap.
That sandwich
and noodles,
that might have just
saved my food experience
on this flight.
I still got about
three and a half hours
more to go on this trip.
And I think they're
serving a meal
an hour later.
I'm just taking a nap
and then we'll eat again.
Meal number three.
Course number one.
Scallops and shrimp
asparagus salad?
I think I forgot to add
my olive oil
to vinegar.
This definitely needs it.
I'm so weak,
I can't open
a little bottle.
What is going on with me?
It doesn't offer much
in terms of flavor.
It's just something
you have to get through
until you get
to the short rib.
I honestly don't even know
if the olive oil
and vinegar is for this.
Final dish before we land.
So this is a short rib
with potatoes
and little carrots and peas.
Hello.
High hopes for this.
My suggestion,
if you ever fly
Korean Airlines,
either one of them,
always opt
for the Western menu.
Always.
Salvation
came at the end.
Tender, right?
The sauce is thick,
it's rustic,
it's got that heavy
beef flavor.
That's gonna go great
with the potatoes.
I dropped my fork
so there's like a
fork-shaped
stain on my jeans now.
All you gotta do,
take it to the bathroom,
take off your jeans
and just like suck
the gravy out.
Thanks.
I'm kidding.
Think she doesn't.
And the gravy,
you wipe up with this.
This really saved them.
This and the ramen and sandwich
really saved them
for me on this flight.
It was like a bad date,
everything was going horribly,
show up late,
bad PO,
no manners.
But then,
great personality.
It's kind of like that.
No, but seriously,
I need to get this thing.
Something you always need to carry
when you're traveling.
These shot wipes
are amazing.
They're a lifesaver
and they're much better
than the Thai pen.
So always carry a bunch of these
when you're traveling and eating.
They're gonna save your life.
I'm gonna finish up.
See you in Korea.
22 minutes?
This airport is awesome.
Get some food
and relax a little bit.
Korean fried chicken.
Oh man,
I have no time.
This airport is glorious.
It's brand new.
You can,
there's capsule hotels in here,
tons of food places.
Maybe I do have some time
for fried chicken.
I have exactly 10 minutes.
Very spicy.
It will be much crispier
and better hotter.
That flavor is insane.
Best fried chicken,
Korea.
It's got some flake.
Cucumber rolls
stuffed with beef
and mushrooms
and eggs,
shredded carrots.
Wow, that's just light and refreshing.
Little bite of beef.
Tons of crisp.
Refreshing juiciness
from the carrots and cucumbers.
Dinner is sambal.
Some bulgogi rice
fermented bean sauce.
You can just put a bunch of stuff in here
and eat it like that.
Finally here
and
it's hot.
Just got my grab card.
The hotel I'm staying at
is only like
4 minute drive from the airport.
I'm staying at the Solaris Hotel and Casino
because
I'm filming there tomorrow.
They have this amazing
all-you-can-eat lobster buffet.
Can't wait to try it out.
I slept the entire way here so
I'm rested up.
I'm gonna go to the hotel
I got a lot of energy.
I'm gonna go hit the gym
hit it hard
do some work
sleep in late
wake up and completely jet-lagged
and ready to eat.
Wow.
That's so nice.
Thank you so much.
Wow.
This is definitely the best place
I will ever
be spending a night
ever
in my life, maybe.
There's a chandelier
in my room.
I don't drink but
this is so nice.
Oh, I definitely eat chocolates.
That's for sure.
Oh, mangoes are the best.
I wish I brought a
wine drinker with me.
There's a little sink
kitchen area here.
Living area.
Oh.
I think this is bathroom number one.
Oh my god.
Even the toilet paper
has a nice container.
Soap.
Okay, bathroom number one.
Whoa, look at the bedroom.
Full-size window.
Look at this.
Slippers
by the bed.
What?
Oh.
Candy by the pillow.
There's a whole area
where you can seal off, right?
So, this is the bathroom.
In case you're not happy
with your regular fluffy robes,
you can choose the other robe.
But look at this, guys.
Good lord.
Look at this.
Bath salt.
A loofah.
Oh, vanity kit.
Even the tile on the floor
is beautiful.
Luxury shower stall.
And then, a private pooper
with a phone.
I've stayed in hotel rooms
that are the size of
the bathroom here.
Best hotel room I've ever stayed in.
Not even close.
I need a chocolate.
I need to make sure
this is all real.
It's so good.
Okay.
Unfortunately,
the gym closes at
at 10.
So, I can't go to gym anymore.
I'm just gonna go to bed.
I've been sleeping on the plane
for like 12 hours.
But, I think just go to bed.
Wake up early,
head to the gym,
get my day started.
So, the reason I'm staying
in this casino is because
the last time I was here,
I ate at a really awesome
dim sum buffet
on Red Lantern.
And I found another buffet
that's in this casino
All-you-can-eat lobster.
We're gonna go check it out tomorrow.
There's two major airlines
in Korea.
ASEANA and Korean Airline.
I think for the seat layout...
Hang on a second.
This is too good.
This is so bad for me.
I think from the seat layout,
ASEANA wins hand down.
Because Korean Airline,
the configuration is usually
two,
two on each side,
and I think
two or three in the middle.
But the two on each side
is right next to each other.
So, if you go to a bathroom a lot
like I do,
and you're sitting in the window seat,
you have to step over your neighbor
to get to the bathroom,
which is really annoying
for both of you guys.
I think in terms of food,
it's pretty much the same.
They both have the bibimbap.
The Korean menus are very, very,
very mediocre.
Pay thousands of dollars
to fly business class,
and you know you're getting
this exact same food item
that's being served in the economy.
You do feel like you're not
getting your money's worth.
I think the Western menu
is the way to go
for these airlines.
But it's kind of sad
because if you're flying ANA
or JAL,
you want the Japanese menu.
And they deliver
on the Japanese food.
It's delicious.
But here, the Korean menus
are very, very average.
So, food,
I would give it about
maybe a 6.5 or a 7.
It's not great.
Seats are really, really tight.
Probably some of the smallest
business class seats
I've ever been on.
So, comfort level,
I would say 6.5 or 7.
These airlines are not cheap.
Korean airlines, you know,
they're not cheap tickets.
So, you're going to find them
in the same range as ANA
or JAL or EVA
or China Airlines.
So, if you are flying to Korea
or anywhere in Asia,
and you have the option
to choose between
the Japanese airlines
or the Korean airlines
or the Taiwan airlines,
I would not choose
the Korean airlines.
I mean, the people are great.
The service is impeccable.
But that's going to be true
on basically all the major
Asian airlines.
So, there you go, guys.
That's my review of
Asian airlines.
Hopefully, you found it helpful.
The next time you're flying somewhere,
you want to fly business,
I got to eat all my chocolates
and maybe I'm going to bed.
Good night.
Oh, actually, hang on.
Alright, that might take a while.
Good night.
