Hey guys, Mike Chen flying back to Singapore today. My flight is in the evening and
For lunch had to come back to Manhattan because need a warm more bowl of that noodle before I leave
Today is opening day. It's lying out the door
It's not even lunchtime. First day they sold out. It's about
4 p.m. And I feel bad for the people who are behind me. I waited for about 40 minutes. At least I got to eat so
Itadakimasu. Getting the noodles in different broths just brings a smile to my face
The noodles are just shimmering in this bowl. Nice to look at this gooey gooey egg
It's just so scrumptious looking. I love skimming. It's such an interactive ramen experience
It's not just slurping it from the bowl
But you're dipping the glistening ramen into the different broth and when it comes out
I don't know about you. My heart flutters every single time. What's the most exciting part?
It's like a drool emerging from a sea of flavor
Just as good as I remembered it. That first slurp is always the best. That deep richness and that huge bonito flavor
Just lingers on your tongue. And they gave me some chilies this time
Good amount of heat from the chilies. These chilies are really interesting
I think a bit of pickled vegetables in there too. Whoa, that heat definitely hits you a little later
And I remember the first time I was eating here
I kept forgetting about the chashu because noodles in the different broth is so amazing
if you want an even more rich flavor, take a bite of the chashu
I think it's so good, by the way. So tender and smoky
And then just slurp away
I love the chili sauce because it's not just spicy
It's a really interesting and complex chili sauce. And the bite with the chashu, you get that added melt-in-your-mouth
rich velvety pork flavor in addition to the chicken to the fish flavor of the broth crunchy bamboo
for a little change in texture
And just slurp away
And of course don't forget about this gooey egg. Dunk that in the broth as well. Pop that in your mouth
I'm trying not to dip so much noodles each time. Just to kind of prolong this experience
I love just sitting here and all you hear is the music and then just people slurp and enjoy themselves
Like I said, I had to get one last bowl before I left New York
Otherwise that food revail would be hitting me hard. Definitely make your way here and get a bowl and come early
They sold out today at 4 p.m. So plan accordingly, but
Definitely get your slurp on here
Such a good place. Like I said, it's a rainy chilly day here in New York about as perfect as you can get for a bowl of ramen
I mean, that's just the extra flavoring on top of an already magnificently delicious bowl. This place is gonna do really really well
Today flying back to Singapore via JAL business class. This might be
the most
exciting food on an airline
Maybe ever. JAL of course
Amazing airline. Flew it a couple times
So in Japan Airlines, you either get to choose between a Western menu or a Japanese menu. The Japanese menu
You usually get like a bento box. So here there's beef, hatake salad with ponzu jelly, simmered abalone, watercress
There's braised pork belly, salmon tofu, yuzu chili flavor sauce with rice. For the Western menu
Which is maple duck breast, sea scallops, beef tenderloin, sea bass
Now this is the most exciting part about this menu. The anytime you wish menu
Includes black vinegar chicken and vegetable rice bowl. There's cheese and pear pasta
Seafood chowder, there's BLT, there's udon, there's soba
And the most exciting dish, grilled black miso cod
Anytime you want. Are you kidding me? This anytime menu is outrageous. Can't wait to try, well, pretty much all of this out
giant screen
Slippers
Humidity kit, includes
eye cover
napkins, earplugs
Toothpaste, toothbrush. Oh, this is a mask. That's an eye cover
Usually they give like a lip balm or something. Whatever. I'm Katsuri Daimon with the Outrageous Food Mania. I'll see you guys at lunch
Starting off the meal, I got this drink which is a mix of grape and peach
nuts and olives
Grapey Shirley Temple. This looks so beautiful. So I have radish and crab meat
Chicken meatball, zoo jelly. Japan Airlines always have the best-looking food
Always feast with your eyes first on this flight
Itadakimasu
First of all, salmon and tofu on what, yuzu sauce?
Braised pork belly and mushroom with the porcelain miso soup as well. The salmon looks so
tender
That is a tender piece of fish. Dunk it more into the yuzu sauce
Mushrooms, oh the tofu is super tender
Here they are. Oh, look at this thing, a little sweet. I thought I was taking any of the Japan Airlines like JL or
Dessert is some kind of cherry yogurt. Can I get the black vinegar chicken and a cheese pear pasta in the seafood chowder?
Can I get a diet coke, please? Thank you. Diet coke basically cancels everything out. So I got about five dishes. This is the first drink.
This one, I got the miso cod. I'm just gonna get it.
This is the miso cod with the tempura on the side.
That is a flaky cod.
The fish is breaking up.
I'll have a tea sandwich and some cheese.
At the JL lounge here in Narita Airport in Tokyo, Japan
I'm gonna be back in Tokyo when Japan opens in a couple of weeks. This is so beautiful, the food. Look at this.
Lounge food. What's really cool about this lounge is you don't have to be in business class or first class to get into this lounge.
Anybody that flies JL can get in here and eat this. You guys are so cool.
So this tray, it looks like salted plum, seafood, pickles,
mackerel, ooh, some mentaiko and
tamago.
It's so good. I love mackerel. You just get that nice fatty flavor every single bite.
It's one of those fish that as you chew the flavor just releases more and more.
Got a gyodon here. Fatty beef, onions, rice underneath.
This is really quality food. You get in this lounge, the fatty beef just melts in your mouth, a little sweet from the onions.
There's some noodles in here as well. This is a beautiful bowl of gyodon.
Also, I got a bowl of curry here. Oh, look at that meat. It's just full of heart.
Fatty pieces of beef here.
So good.
Astonishingly good. Curry is just deliciously smoky and thick and rich and it's got so much flavor.
That beef completely, completely melts in your mouth.
Mmm, I can't believe how good the food is here. This is curry I would line up for on the streets of Tokyo.
That is amazing. Also, look at that, I got a little taiyaki.
Still toasty on the outside.
This is a really good reason to fly JAL Airlines if all else is equal. Free access to this lounge, get to try all this food.
They just bring like mind-blowing flavors, presentation. I think I've been in this lounge before, I'm not a hundred percent sure, but I remember this.
This is amazing. Also, look how clean the bathroom is. I mean that toilet, you high-five it and it flushes itself.
It's like a little personal suite you have in there, unlike the half see-through stalls we got in the US.
Can't wait to come back here. My only knock on the curry,
they only gave me one piece of that fatty beef, but luckily I got more fatty beef in here.
That's one of the best curries I think I've ever had and it's in an airport lounge. I kid you not, that curry is majestic.
So good. Round two. This time I got this tofu dessert.
Wow, this is so good.
Poppin' tofu chili.
This is delicious. I love this lounge so much, I want to leave. I hope my flight's delayed, just stay here and eat. Also, iced coffee on tap.
I haven't drank more coffee lately.
That's so refreshing and nice. On the second leg of the flight heading to Singapore,
Wagyu is on the menu. This is gonna be so exciting.
Dinner is served. There's a lot of different ingredients in this plate. First part, there's veal, salmon, eggplant,
turnip with egg yolks on, guan dong plain, garlic,
chrysanthemum, snow peas, pickled ginger shoots, seasoned mushrooms, the salmon roll, there's Japanese crab with chrysanthemum petals,
abalone, and taro.
It's so beautiful. Also right now, it's extreme turbulent.
So I hope I don't stab myself with a chopstick.
Eggplant. The egg yolk sauce is so juicy.
This eel is so soft.
Soft, slightly sweet. Speaking of soft, look at this salmon.
I think it's cooked so perfectly.
The salmon is fatty.
So tender. Wow. I think it just breaks apart
incredibly well. As you chew, it just leaves a marvelous
fatty flavor over your tongue.
Look at that nice crunch from the salmon roll. It's basically just little pockets of pure flavor.
A bit, a little slimy.
I don't think I've ever had croissants. This is
crazy delicious. Look at this. This is a wagyu. So buttery. I don't think I've ever had wagyu cold before, but imagine like a cold cut sandwich.
Okay, the hot dish is chicken curry with dried cod.
It's very good. A little sweet, a little spicy. Very, very rich. I'd like the beef curry more, but that's delicious.
Dried cod is so good, too.
Tons of vegetables on top to give it a nice, nice crunch with the seaweed and the carrots. But inside, it's super,
super tender, flaky cod. Of course, the rice is
wrapped up like a Christmas present.
Presentation, flavor.
That's air life, which has it all.
