The LARGEST CHINATOWN in Asia! STREET FOOD Tour of Yokohama Chinatown

Good morning, it's actually a beautiful day today Really excited today because I've been craving Chinese food for a long time and a lot of you guys have been telling me I gotta go check out Chinatown in Yokohama, which is one of the Something's beeping. Oh Almost went down the wrong electric Escalator, okay, they beep at you. That's good. Anyway, like I was saying i've been craving Chinese food for a long long time Let's go to the correct one this time Um in Yokohama Chinatown is one of the biggest Chinatowns in the world and I gotta check this place out So heading over there and I heard there's a lot of street food I might die here. I apparently don't know how to use an escalator Oh, it's so hot outside. I'm gonna start off my morning with this got to admit. It doesn't look the best Yummy though the crepe is actually really really soft. I mean you really can't go wrong with any ice cream in Japan breakfast before my breakfast Oh finally here Like I was saying Yokohama Chinatown is one of the largest in the world. It's the largest in Asia Can't eat buns or drink bubble tea here. This thing has over 150 years history mostly supposed to be Cantonese people here So the cuisine i'm thinking a lot of dim sum a lot of mild flavored Chinese foods. All right Let's go exploring They're serving seafood and pork buns These are supposed to be the seafood buns And these are the pork buns I believe that one's definitely been toasted a lot No hot oil just some vinegar Oh, there's a lot of soup in here I think a warning should have been issued and uh If you guys ever come here consider this your warning that bun knowing it was about to be eaten by me took revenge And just threw soup all over me like I am now covered in soup dumpling soup Definitely some of the juiciest soupy dumplings i've ever had just to give you guys an idea here You see all the soup that's in there about half the bun is filled with soup There's a lot of shrimp in the dumpling so plus with this is tons of soup Tons of filling what's not good way over toasted and it's gonna taste a little burnt on both of these So maybe the steamed one would have been better I think this is cool enough where i'm gonna try to pop in this whole thing in my mouth I think the steamed version would have been better The soup the filling I think everything is excellent except for the little burnt part and also i'm making this it's gonna come out at some point I'm trying to I gotta get the travel version of the hot oil out this for sure needs some hot oil I bring a laundry pin with me just because i'm a klutz. I spill things on myself all the time But right now I think I need a laundry brush. But hey, I still got the last revenge on the dumplings Oh, that's a cute bun There's my cute little panda sitting on a banana leaf I'm about to make a bleed green matcha. So if you don't like to see that you better look away This is gonna be a little cruel just saying Oh, it's a lot less liquidy than I thought it smells good Matcha custard probably better with some hot tea, but you're definitely paying for the cute little panda here That's where most of your money is going to okay after walking around chinatown I think I realized something trying to come to chinatown on a weekend Might have been the worst idea i've ever had in my life Every single restaurant I wanted to go to is lying out the door at least an hour wait Everything it's like going to six flags in the summer on a saturday So instead of lining up for an hour for every single bite of food I want to eat i'm gonna utilize the most popular of the ancient 36 tactics and uh, Run away, but i'll be back tomorrow bright and early for some mapo tofu without the lines. See you then. Hey, i'm back in chinatown The weather is so nice. There's no people here Let's eat Oh my god, this is so different Nobody here noodle shop had the longest line when I was here last time and they're just about getting ready to open So we'll come back something else I know i'm supposed to try while in chinatown is the mapo tofu which reminds me of that episode in food wars So i'm kind of excited because of that It seems like most of the noodle restaurants and dumpling restaurants won't be open till 11. So Uh, there's a lot of buns available right now, let's get some buns What buns on a skewer, oh heck, yeah First time having buns on a skewer. This is so cool. So this is four types of buns I see like a soup dumpling a shumai and the the flat thing is I think that's like a flat dumpling sort of and then A bun at the bottom. This is by far the heaviest skewer i've ever held in my hand in my life All right, first bun is a little doughy And the second one is really good. The shumai is really good. Nice pork filling thin wrapper. I like that Never ate buns like like like like a meat skewer before that's kind of challenging Moment of silence for the fallen bun, please Learn from my mistake One bite everything on this skewer Last one almost sad This is my favorite This is actually really really good a little soft fluffy pillowy bun with really chewy nice pork filling super juicy as well I heard this mapo tofu place is pretty good And there are a lot of mapo tofu places in this chinatown. This is must get when you're in chinatown dandan noodles Mapo tofu this dandan noodles. First of all, it's really really soupy I think there's some versions of dandan noodles that is very soupy I'm used to the ones that are not and they give you a spoon. So i'm assuming they expect you to drink this broth It's like a bunch of onions pork spinach Really thin noodles the mapo tofu actually looks very very authentic It's very thick big slices of tofu minced meats all around that super saucy It looks very much on fire and you can see the peppercorn little pieces of peppercorn glued to the tofu as well This is really good looking mapo tofu. It's supposed to look like this. Well, let's try the broth Oh very nummy very spicy what I would expect from dandan noodles They actually give you a lot of noodles the flavor is not bad There's a lot of citron characteristics nummy spicy. It tastes like dandan noodles There's something else I would like with this It's not bad it just I feel like it's missing something this is a citron peppercorn maybe a little nummier Hot oil A little better But I feel like I don't know it's missing something dandan noodles. You'll typically never add white vinegar But I just feel like this dish It doesn't it hasn't reached its full potential That's a lot better I mean this is not a bad dish especially for about 450 You get a lot of noodles here a lot of minced meat This is a pretty worth the dish. Typically when you order dandan noodles in the uis It comes in the bowl about that size And it costs like seven bucks, especially the last few bites. Very meaty got a nice crunch from the spinach Really not too bad add some vinegar a little more hot oil a little more numminess pretty good This is a dish you 100% Have to eat with rice Don't even try to get this without rice because That's just wrong. Okay, because these guys they're life partners. They're food soul mates ted meet robin Really really meat tofu is nice and soft It's a pretty good dish and the thing is like I love things that are heavily seasoned So you might not need to add all the extras I did but I like my adjustments Nummy spicy I really like how meaty this is they put a lot of meat in here and there is never anything wrong with that probably the most meaty Mapo tofu I've ever had in my life actually with the added spice filling the berms giving me this incredible satisfying feeling that really only Spicy food can give you know i'm talking about, you know in food wars when they're hurting they're in pain, but they can't stop eating It's like that. It's definitely a little different than traditional chinese mapo tofu I think it's slightly sweeter, but I like this. I mean this is perfect Which means dish that complements your rice perfectly And chinese people we love shot on time because we love our fun Get it. We love we love our fun, but fun also means rice. So we we love fun and we also You know, we also give you dessert this is a pretty worth it meal set That's a refreshing pudding. Oh my god, this place has a line already in like 30 minutes. It's a small restaurant. There's only about 10 seats I have no idea what people are eating here. This is probably the longest line in chinatown. So their number one dish seems to be a Pork belly noodle their shumai is good. This is the shumai. This is way different than any shumai I've seen before the skin is so thin it's basically falling off. I mean if this was clothing these shumai wouldn't be allowed on the streets Look at this. This one is just indecent right now. What's the point of the wrapper? It's just it's just all filling which trust me. I highly approve of Filling is the best That is a really substantial shumai one of those you don't have to eat for the rest of the day This is really really really heavy and dense. Like I said the outer wrapper pretty much non-existent Very porky extremely meaty. Also, I feel like it's bound together by a little bit of starch So it's got a little chew to it I don't know if I put enough mustard you kind of do need a bit of acid to complement this A lot better with the mustard but it is extremely extremely filling. Wow. It's the densest shumai I've ever had it's got a good porky flavor, but I gotta switch over to my second stomach just to eat this This is my pork belly noodle and this is number one recommended thing on the menu. So a little pork belly Some spinach you can tell this thing is going to be tender. If this pork belly was a house It would fall apart at the gentlest breeze. I'm not using any effort and this thing is just coming apart So incredibly juicy all sitting on a bed of golden noodles golden Ramen noodles. Let's try this broth first. I'm thinking this is going to be pretty excellent Oh It's nice Well, that is really fatty broth I feel my my lips getting all gelatinous and sticky super super porky broth Such a huge porky flavor It's so saturated pork's almost too much for me. I definitely need a little acid in this somehow to try the pork Oh my god, I think that's why people wait in lines for that pork that is beyond words tender obviously, but it's not just that it's just crazy Insane porky flavor. This is like super pig i'm biting into this pork flavor is so magnified. It doesn't taste like regular pork It tastes like this pork Grew up in a house of spice and just been breeding in flavor for its whole life. That's how good this is This is going to be the best piece. This is the fattiest part of that pork belly Oh my god that fat turned into delicious liquid gold as soon as it touches your tongue Truly al dente cooked perfectly It's so prevalent every single strand of this this is porkier and more flavorful than most ramens i've had I'm, so grateful about the veggies gives you a little break from all that just overwhelming flavor from the pork Yeah, basically I eat veggie so I can eat more meat if you don't like pork You don't want to go to hog heaven after every single bite. This is not the place for you. But if you do Here's your ticket Today I definitely ate way too much pork all three of my dishes Have pork the last dish. I felt like I ate a pork battalion. I can barely walk Oh, who's this number one in the world walking and I run into this. See look I can read that sort of shijie world number one This is all apple pie i'm gonna get an apple pie just when you think you can't eat anymore The food gods give you more stuff to try And for some reason I saw the apple pie felt hungrier maybe because it was an apple pie not a pork pie This is a little pastry. Look how flaky this is, huh? Oh, it's really really good Oh, this is so good it's a huge piece of apple and some kind of custard inside this is not overly sweet it is so Incredibly creamy the apple is still a little crisp and juicy. I want some ice cream to go with this now This thing right here marco polo Molinari. Oh my god. I want another one. Yeah, i'm only in japan once A year a month, but before I get this one I gotta prepare. We gotta a la mold that baby. It deserves its own ice cream companion Hello my precious Oh, yeah Oh my god with ice cream, you know, it's better right with ice cream everything is better with ice cream I'm just standing here in the middle of the road Licking a dripping ice cream cone And wiping it with a crusty apple pie and just stuffing my face shamelessly. That's pretty much who I am When it comes to fruit as the great guard brooks would say I'm shameless when it comes to loving you That was deeply enjoyable, well, that's it for my time here in chinatown You know, there are lessons to be learned from this trip. First of all never come here on a holiday weekend Never secondly soup dumplings will attack you and third make sure you get some of that apple pie. That was amazing It's been a great few weeks. It's the longest I've ever stayed in japan and it was so much fun I'm trying to find a way to be here longer term and i'll let you guys know if that ever happens But in the meantime, I got enough food memories to last me, you know Till the next time i'm back and hopefully that won't be too long from now As always all the places I went to is listed for you in my description box below.
