Dunegant Park Trails - Wood Hike and Old Lost Cemetery (Pohlman). Florissant, Missouri

All right we're gonna take Luke for a little forest trip and this is a place where I would always come as a kid like a teenager or less and you go through the woods here and there's lots of cool stuff to see. It's called Dunagan Park and it's 68 degrees. Tomorrow they're looking at snow so this is like the last good day. When you gotta go, you gotta go. No Maggie for that. He got in Cozumel, Mexico. Yep. A gift from grandma and grandpa. Oh here let's get a close-up. Hold on bud. It's the boss. It's right here. Oh there's some colorage there. Yeah there's not much. Yeah so so we're hoping for like uh to show you like some fall leaves but we're not seeing a whole lot here. Footage of sliding in the leaves. Oh and so if we ever learn how to play this golf this is right down the street but I don't throw the frisbee very well so a weighted one might be Now your big sister Elsie came this way and she went through these paths with me but this is Luke's first time. Nothing like a little forest walk. Maybe we'll see some deer hopefully or something. Okay how about the deer and not the or something. We have our protector. We don't want to see bears. So again we could go that way or this way and I think uh we'll check out this way. All right let's open. Luke looks like he's on the hunt. He was sleeping on the bed before we left and as soon as we said we're gonna go for a walk his ears perked up and he's off and running. What's going on? Sorry buddy. We'll get good at this. Oh geez. I swear we could get this right. A little warning maybe. All right well that was fun. This was definitely not here when I was a kid. Definitely not. Picnic benches were not here. Yeah what do you suppose these are? Oh is this like a little obstacle course? I'm not gonna try that. Do you ever need a spare? Yeah not a lot of color going on and it's what November 10th. Happy early veterans day. But I think what threw off all the leaves on the trees was uh beginning of October was like 90 degrees so it thought it wasn't time to turn. I don't know man. More to explore. All right Luke. Well this actually goes all the way to closer to Dunn Road where Little Creek Wildlife Area is. Poison ivy. Yeah I get poison ivy all the time so I know what it looks like. Leaves of three. Leaves of three with a red stem. I get it all the time. It's got snow on them. There you go. I think that just goes back to the park. That's an even bigger leaf. Bigger than Luke. I remember back in the day when we would come here like if it was an hour before dark and we were way in the woods we're like oh we gotta hurry up and get out before it gets dark because then you might not be Here's a bridge. Let's go. Now this leads towards Little Creek Wildlife Area. Come on bud. Now when I was a kid this little bridge here was a very rickety swinging bridge. Oh there's just a little bit of water. Not too much excitement down there. Oh and over this way even when you get farther it's like a cemetery. A bridge on like a walkway. It seems like it's been uphill since I don't know Like all uphill. Yeah there's houses over there. I'm getting a little Blair Witch vibe out here. Maybe it's all the walking dead we watch. I don't know. But so that goes to the other path we saw with the bridge. I'm a little winded. Yeah and I've been sick and you're just going. We are definitely not in Cozumel or Belize or any of that but nice fall day so we'll take it. Oh so that was cabins I was seeing. Slow moving traffic. Maybe we'll see some traffic. So we'll go this way because this is Little Creek and then we'll probably go this way a little because I think that's the cemetery. I do see a cabin. So are these cabins? It's like a historical cabin from I guess when Clarkson was way younger in the 1800s. Hey it's like Warren Dunes. Warren Dunes he says. Trying to watch my footing so I don't take a spill down the hill. That could get some views. A lot of big leaves here. These are huge. Look at these. So if anybody knows what kind of tree forms. Are these like the big leaves of back in the day that they would cover themselves? Drop it in the comments if you know what kind of leaves those are. Almost looks like a maple leaf. Yeah but it's like the deepest. Oh hold it up again. Ah the sun shining through. It's actually quite pleasant. I'm wearing shorts and long sleeves and Andy's got shorts and a flannel. Zero? Well whatever it's going to be. We're expecting a cold front. Talking about snow tomorrow which is why we're taking advantage of today. I've been sick all week so finally out of the house. As a kid we would walk across logs like this but not now. Yeah we're not going to do that now. I don't think I'll do that. Our balance is a little different now. A little bit. If this is the pond I actually fell in it in the winter because it was ice and I thought it was solid. So that's what happened to him. Let's see. How is it still here 40 years later? I just saw like a little frog or something. But so so I was on this side on the far side over there and it was frozen so I walked across the thing fell in it broke so I was up to here and my pants were like frozen they turned like yeah they froze so my mom had to come get me. What do you think of that Luke? I don't know. Andy said he saw a frog or something but I don't see anything. So another thing I did we had I had a microscope so we came up here and got a sample of this water and check it out in the microscope. It's kind of cool. It's nerdy. It was I forget what we saw. We didn't see much. All right let's go. It's so cool just how the sun comes through the trees. You get a little color. Like I said I've been stuck in the house for several days so this is like this is pretty cool. I'm not sure which way. You may guess this way. I don't know. We got some color. There we go.
