Hello my name is John and in this video I'm going to give you a few tips if you're planning to visit Brunei
Some of you are watching this video and will say "What the hell is Brunei "
Well Brunei is a small country located on the island of Borneo which as you know is a huge island
It shares three countries mainly Malaysia and Indonesia but also Brunei is entirely
On the island of Borneo while the other two countries simply have part of their country
And indeed it's a country that people don't often visit even when they visit the Asian region they rarely choose Brunei
As one of the countries to visit but well I went because I was curious they had told me
I always heard about Brunei especially what you hear about the sultan right That's what's most characteristic
The most extravagant but what caught my attention was the country which is such a rich country and yet it's like that
execSQL A bit more closed off because they don't need tourism given all the money they have from oil gas etc
And then it caught my attention and I do like this type of place honestly I like discovering places
at are not as popular and yes they had told me negative things about the country that there is nothing to do
There's nothing to see nothing worth it etc but anyway I said look I'd rather judge it for myself
I'll see if I don't like it well I mean today I tell you it's not a country that has done anything for me
I had a special excitement but I don't regret going at all I would go again probably not but I'm glad I went
Because now I have a verdict of my own right It's the same thing I tell you in the videos if you haven't seen them
I'll leave it here but this is basically the conclusion I reached As I said Brunei is a very small country
What is usually visited is the capital which is Bandar Seri Begawan and in some places they will call it that
Bandar and other cities are known by different names but basically that's the capital which is the main place to visit
And I dedicated a day to Brunei well I dedicated two days but they aren't full days so basically I dedicated two days
Within 24 hours and that's enough well if you want to dedicate a bit more you'll see a bit more but I think it's better to keep it shorter
It's enough for what the country really offers For me there are basically two parts into which it can be divided
The truly visitable part one hand would be the part that is more of the city of people and the other part that is more of the other side
From the jungle so to speak right From the part that's near the river What attracts most about Brunei are the jungles
The fauna which includes gorillas orangutans etc lizards crocodiles I love this this is amazing
For me this is amazing I wouldn't recommend doing it from Brunei I don't know actually I prefer in fact I haven't visited it
That intense part just a part but I will do it because when I visit for example Indonesia I will dedicate more
To this type of excursion or for example when I return to visit Malaysia having visited Malaysia but more the central part
But not the part in Borneo because I do want to go back to Malaysia to see more of the Mount Kinabalu area
The jungles etc but anyway I wouldn't make the trip to Brunei just to see these areas
There practically everyone speaks English so if you know some basic English they'll understand you
The currency is the Brunei dollar which is equivalent to the Singapore dollar in fact if you are going to make the same trip
For example in Singapore and Brunei you should know that Brunei currency is accepted in Singapore
The exchange rate is practically the same and they accept it as if it were a Brunei dollar or a Singapore dollar
They will accept it the same way so don't change it when you arrive in Singapore
Then when you get there haveWild a hotel already booked in advance I booked mine through Booking
If you've seen the blogs there it is the hotel isn't bad it's not anything special but it's quite affordable
This particular hotel for example has a service that takes you to and from the airport by car
I had really bad luck or I don't know what I arrived on a Sunday and it seems that they don't work on Sundays there and that's it
Then they don't have a car service and I had to take a taxi
It wasn't very expensive but it was money I hadn't planned to spend because they told me they were going to come pick me up
But that's another matter
On the first day I spent time visiting mainly the city part of Bandar Seri Begawan
Then here are the places to visit the main one is the mosque
meaning the mosque is the center of everything and we are going to the center of everything in Brunei
The daily life of a local is working going to the mosque and then going to shopping centers
There's nothing else to do in Brunei trust me there's nothing else
Then the most interesting place to visit there is the mosque and then the rest of the time you have
I'm not saying you should go to shopping malls they have nothing go to markets
There are some daytime and nighttime markets that are interesting
Typical markets for vegetables fruits herbs even second-hand items and handmade goods
I don't know they are interesting markets and if you have
the time you can visit them also there are a few nice parks
Then I would mainly dedicate myself to visiting that area of the city
And then the other part which is the one that interests me the most is the part that is already in the river
Most of Brunei's life takes place on the river and in fact that is where the world's largest floating village is located
It is built on wooden piles and is called Kampung Ayer
In Kampung Ayer there are miles and miles of houses I don't know how many people there are
But there are hundreds of thousands of people living there in fact it's amazing
They have their own schools their own fire department police department I don't know
They have supermarkets everything and everything about that about wooden stakes
It's very curious to see and for that it's best as well as to see that part
As for crossing the river from one side to the other I recommend that you take
ere are boatmen around walking around you negotiate a price and you say hey look
I'll give you five dollars and you give me a ride around all of Kampung Ayer and they say okay that's it
And it gives you a one-hour tour shows you everything as it is and explains as it goes along
Then for me it's the most interesting thing actually I really liked it
And what I liked the most was for example I wanted to see something that gave me a lot of attention
In Brclared you can take a jungle tour and I was
really interested in seeing proboscis monkeys why
Because they are very different monkeys I mean monkeys yes I've seen them in many places
But these monkeys are endemic to this area I don't know if they exist anywhere else
But it really caught my attention because they are monkeys with huge noses very
very big and the truth is I really wanted to see them and then what I did was
Pick up a water taxi from here I said hey take me to this area
And it's true that it's supposed to look better in the afternoon when the sun dips a bit
it's not as hot anymore so it's better if you can go in the afternoon
You have a better chance of seeing them I had a lot of rain on the first afternoon
and couldn't do anything and on the second day that's when I took the opportunity
To make this trip but I had to do it in the morning
So what I did was that I hired one of these water taxis
We negotiated a price in my house I think it was around 10 Wrapped in a 10 euro bill
And I was with him I don't know 3-4 hours a lot of time I take that I go along the river
Crossing through the middle of the jungle we saw crocodiles we saw monkeys
And the tour was great for me it was one of the best things in
Brunei and just for that it was worth it so I highly recommend it
If you go there just talk to one of the boatmen and that's it
You negotiate a price and that's it we turned around and came back
And that's when we visited the entire Kampungayer area in fact he lived in Kampungayer
Then he was telling me all about life there how they lived etc
It's all very interesting and then I didn't visit much more I took another walk around Brunei and that's it
And then I went back so I recommend you do something like that
Then for example the issue of infrastructure is terrible in Brunei it is not designed for tourism
They don't need it so they don't reject it but since they also don't need it
they don't promote it either so there's barely any infrastructure for example
There are sidewalks but very few because everyone moves by car or public
transport I think I saw a bus during the time I was there practically none
Little dedicated tourism which isn't something that displeases me I like going to places like that
They are not major tourist attractions but at least you can move around like
sidewalks and things like that I don't know that's something I really missed
It was very difficult to move from one place to another but well aside
from that if you're interested go to the area and spend a day in Brunei
Well I don't know if this can help you decide whether to go or not go
And I think that's about it I don't know if I missed anything but as always if I missed anything
If you have any questions leave them below in the comments and
I'll be happy to answer you I won't bother you anymore and until next time
