Welcome on board of Fortuna. We have been living for the last two months in the Herzliya Marina
close to Tel Aviv Israel but now we are ready to start sailing season 2020 and finally leave
harbor again. We have still a lot of boat work to do but first thing we're going to the fueling
station to fuel up for our first passage to Larnaca, Cyprus. So we fueled up Fortuna and
now we go to see a locksmith to bring our life ring from the left side to the right side
in order to make space for the life raft which we might need or which we should have for
the Atlantic crossing in November. Hopefully we don't need it so fingers crossed.
Because the sparks can do some rust. I know.
So the idea is to first remove the mount
then polish the steel and finally fix the mount on the other side. We are back in our sailing
and we are super happy with the work of the locksmith and while we were at the workshop we
also managed to meet a sail expert and together with him we looked at our mainsail and at our
genoa and decided it was time to redo our uv protection on the mainsail. So the work for
today is not yet done we will go back out and take down the mainsail so we can give it back
to the workshop and they will apply the new uv protection.
It was a very long day on Fortuna but we managed to tick off three tasks from our to-do list.
The next day graced us again with sun so we decided it was time to tackle our leaky window
but first a happy breakfast to start the day right. The time came for Michael to venture
outside and fix the leak on the window. In the meantime Greta decided it was time to
reorganize storage which became more time consuming than thought. Longer than expected
it's like a huge tetris game to try to fit all your groceries in there but I try to find a way
that will work also in the future especially on the passages that we're going to do as there will
be a lot more this year than last year as we want to prepare as much as possible for the Atlantic
crossing in November. I just finished in time to go up now to help Michael with the
window sealing that we're trying to replace on our main window here in the galley. He has spent
the last hours ripping out the old seal which means first he cut most of the seal out which
was possible then he ripped it out and then he used a screwdriver to scratch out everything
that's still in there and now that all the old sealing is removed you can finally apply
the new sealing and hopefully we don't have any water in the gallery anymore.
so
Good morning everyone! It has been a very very stormy night and it's still shaking us around
but on the other side it was raining the whole night and our newly made window seal is perfectly
holding so that was actually a very nice surprise this morning. So we'll be working mainly on the
boat and the first thing we are doing today is looking at the solar panel that we lost
to see what we actually had to then be able to calculate what we will need in the future.
It seems like that the wind has suddenly calmed down
so we decided this is our chance to hiss our newly fixed mainsail.
Yeah so tomorrow at around seven the coast guard will come
and we will finalize all the documents and then we are ready to go.
So one last night going to bed now.
