Before we resume our in depth exploration of Tokyo, Kate needs bread and she finds the best Ciabatta she's had in a year. Tokyo really does have the best food in the world. We walk from our hotel in Shinjuku to the famous Mejii Jingu (Shrine) in Yoyogi Park. This gorgeous Shinto shrine is an oasis of tranquility right in the center of Tokyo. Definitely a must see for any Tokyo itinerary. Following the tranquility of the Meiji Shrine we head straight into the heart of the commercial beast and hit up Harejuku's Takeshita Dori, one of the best shopping (and people watching) areas in Tokyo. We get right into anime culture and explore some awesome clothing and cosplay shops. We make sure to scratch our nerd-itch by shopping our way through all 8 floors of Yodobahi-Akiba, one of the largest electronic stores in the world before exploring the rest of the Akihabara District where get right into the heart of the anime and manga culture in Tokyo...not to mention crowds of people playing Pokemon Go crowding the sidewalks. We make a late night stop for street food in Piss Alley (Omoide Yokocho), a true local favorite. While making our way back through Shinjuku we happen upon Godzilla Road which sports its very own giant Godzilla peaking over a building. Vending machines are central to life in Tokyo so we make sure to hydrate with none other than a Pocari Sweat from right here in it's homeland!

We're in Tokyo, so where else would Katie go but the French bakery?
I have to go there. I have to have that.
Oh wow.
I think since probably about a year.
The girl loves bread.
I do.
So now that we have bread, our second stop of the morning is the Meiji Shrine in Yoyogi Park.
Right in the middle of Tokyo.
It's just gorgeous.
This city is awesome.
She doesn't like the shirt.
Where are you from?
Oregon State.
You went to OSU?
Okay, you can give me a Go Beavs.
Go Beavs!
This is unbelievable.
It's so quiet and it's so beautiful.
I cannot believe it's in the middle of Tokyo.
The temple is to Emperor Meiji and his consort.
It's a Shinto shrine, which is the original ancient Japanese religion
that's more about being in tune with nature.
Really interesting.
Well, the Meiji Shrine was awesome and tranquil and peaceful.
Now we're going to head into the super hip shopping district of Takashita Dori.
Did I say that right?
Yep, sounds right.
Fair enough.
I can understand why some parents would be horrified.
There's this.
And then there's this.
I don't see the problem.
Crepes are the famous street food here in Harajuku.
This is an anime clothing store.
Wow, I love this store.
It's so cool.
I'm going to take all this back.
Check these guys out.
Harajuku and Takashita Dori is an awesome place to go
if you want to see fashion, particularly anime fashion.
People are just dressed really cool.
They're doing the news in anime.
Now we're going to explore the biggest electronics store in Tokyo
and we're in the Akihabara district.
Eight Floors of Electron Bliss.
Coolest store ever and we're only half way up.
I want it. I want it all.
It's amazing.
They even have the SS Yamoto from Star Blazers.
That was the best cartoon ever.
Our first vending machine.
Cars sweat.
Gotta have it when you're dehydrated.
Vending machines are apparently central to life in Tokyo.
We're wandering west and north from Akihabara Station
in search of the hardcore anime and manga culture.
This is supposed to be the hot spot for it.
The hawkers for the cosplay and manga place
are just all over the roads. It's really interesting.
There are thousands of people playing Pokemon Go all over the place.
What do you think of this area?
It is cool.
Right behind us is the area affectionately known as Piss Alley.
It's by the Shinjuku train station right along the tracks.
Plus this alley has a bunch of great little local places to eat in there.
So we are going to go find some food.
This is my favorite place we've been yet in Tokyo.
It's pretty cool.
And that's saying something because Tokyo is awesome.
I can't remember the Japanese name of the place we just ate
but I'll put it probably right there.
That was cool.
Little dive places in that whole alley.
Mostly locals there. Some expats running around.
There's a giant Godzilla peeking over the buildings right there.
Godzilla!
We'll wind on our way home for the night.
We haven't heard a single horn honk since we've been in Tokyo.
It's quite the relief.
The best phone case ever.
Yet another reason I love this trip.
Click the thumbs up and subscribe!
Now that was good.
