ADVENTURES IN KYOTO (JAPAN VLOG PART 2) JAMIE CHUA
This is a very small sushi shop.
We're going to have lunch here.
It's called Mantan.
How is it?
It's very fresh.
Goodbye Tokyo for now but we'll be back in 2 days.
So from Amman Tokyo to Amman Kyoto.
Can't wait!
Alright guys, we're finally on the Shinkansen on the way to Kyoto.
In 1 minute, the train closes the door and then we're on the way.
So if you're slow, too bad.
Yup.
Okay so we're at Tofukiji to see the maple leaves.
It's raining.
Because miserable weather man.
Wow, look at the leaves here.
Amazing.
But it's a bit rainy and I'm mask on so it's different from the last time we came.
I feel like going to a hotel already.
Okay.
Guys, I booked the whole garden for Jamie.
Look at that.
Okay.
We're in Tofukiji.
And there's nobody because it's a private tour.
So let's take a look.
We're going to walk a little bit.
And we're going to see the autumn leaves in Kyoto.
Holy.
So now Jamie wants to take some photographs and we have to see you guys later.
Oops.
So we're having Japanese breakfast every day.
While we're here, everything looks delicious.
Terence is in his yukata and he's feeling very Japanese.
He's going to start on his breakfast.
This porridge looks different.
Is it like an oatmeal porridge?
Having salad in the morning.
My face is a little bit white now because I'm baking my powder.
I see the fish that I don't really like which is cod.
Is this cod?
Okay, let me try.
Not really.
Thank god.
So this morning I woke up at, what time was it?
7am as usual.
I wake up very early even during my holidays.
I was looking for a place to run.
When I came out here, you can see the big stones.
And all the autumn leaves are on the ground.
So not the most ideal place to run.
So I couldn't run.
I went for a walk around here.
And I was looking for spots to take pictures.
Because I was wrecking the place for Jamie to take photographs.
So I think this is a very nice spot.
In the video, you can't really see the colours.
Because the lamps don't pick up the reds and oranges and the yellows.
But it's really beautiful.
We're going to take a few pictures here.
And there's a very nice autumn tree over there.
It's really red.
We're going to show you guys once we get there.
And we're in matching pink today.
Yes, today is all pink.
We are at the Golden Pavilion right now.
And I'm going to walk in and look for the best photo spot.
Have you ever been here?
No, I haven't.
Okay.
I think we missed it the last time.
Because this is a bit further from the central area.
But it's also quite nice.
It's quite near our hotel.
It's very near our hotel.
But that's the reason why it's far.
Our hotel is actually in the northwestern part of Kyoto.
It's not in the main area.
I've been here once.
It's actually quite nice.
Except that the Golden Pavilion is quite far away.
Because there's a big pond.
So I have to walk quite far.
You have to walk around the pond.
And the only picture spot you can get...
It's actually across, right?
If it's in front of the Golden Pavilion, it's quite far.
But you have to go behind the Golden Pavilion.
So you can only get the back end of the Golden Pavilion.
That's the problem.
Alright.
Alright, let's go.
Oh, these are maple too.
Yes.
They are.
Okay, here we are guys.
Okay, we're entering the Golden Pavilion.
My niece just made it.
Holding on to this hot bottle of royal milk tea.
Because I'm so cold.
My hands are frozen to the bone.
This really helps.
And it's my favourite drink too.
Guys, this is not colour-coded.
It's direct.
It's so red.
Finally, it's my bungalow.
Number 57.
Where are we?
We are at the burugi mochi shop.
That has no name.
I see.
My goodness.
I just saw that they have another policy rule.
Whatever you call it.
One person, one order policy.
That means if I want to eat two of this, I cannot.
And that's my favourite.
Why are we sharing?
One person, one order policy.
Is that the correct interpretation?
Or are they saying every person has to order at least one?
I think every person has to order at least one.
They cannot share.
I think that's what it means.
It's not that you're limited to only ordering one.
I'm so confused.
Cannot be.
No restaurant will ever limit you to ordering only one.
Wow, you never know.
Pretty sure it's very much worth it.
This is the royal milk tea.
We drizzled the Okinawa brown sugar all over it.
I know Terence likes it so I'm just going to go for it.
And this one here is the katsu kiwi.
Which is an arrowroot starch noodle.
Very, very good.
And you're supposed to dip it into this Okinawa brown sugar as well when you eat it.
Like that.
It's Michelin star kaiseki restaurant in Kyoto.
And Terence, you just have to book the whole restaurant for us again.
Of course.
So we can film whatever you want.
The only thing is you won't be able to ask them because they don't speak English.
It's only in Japanese.
So at least you got your sake.
I can speak a bit of Japanese.
Very little.
When you pour the sake, there's this bird sound.
Cheers!
In case you guys don't know what shirako is.
It's actually whale sperm.
This is a failed fish.
The ayode ika.
And that one is herring.
This is like a beef wellington.
A mini, mini wellington.
My beautiful rice dish is katkani.
Morning!
This is our trip back from Kyoto.
We're in Tokyo.
We're at the Peninsula, one of my favourite hotels.
Because there is a vanity room which I find that it's very, very useful.
So today, I hope it's not too cold because I am grossly under packed this trip.
I swear.
I'm even wearing a denim jacket today.
Can you believe it?
Maybe it's time to go shop for a new coat.
Where are you going?
We're going to walk there?
Yes.
For lunch?
Oh yes.
I want to show you guys this sad looking lion.
I don't know why it looks so tortured like that.
It's cold and I keep repeating my outfit.
See, I'm wearing the same skirt again.
I only brought one skirt.
Actually, it's not that cold today, right?
Well, my legs are a bit cold now.
Let's go shopping!
We are bag twins.
Bag twins.
Like this one.
Is it exactly the same?
Yes, exactly the same.
They've taken us to this beautiful teppanyaki restaurant.
And we love teppanyaki because we don't get many good ones in Singapore.
And we got this beautiful teppanyaki room.
Everybody please sit down.
Filled to the brim.
Not a single drop off.
Abundance.
And prosperity.
Thank you.
Cheers!
This chef, he feeds us.
Let's go order some noodles from the noodle bar.
Okay, just to let you guys know where we are.
We are at the Sweet Lounge at the airport.
On the way back to Singapore.
And so we are going to check this place out.
Let's go.
Where's the noodle bar?
Oh, it's here.
So I guess it's here.
This part I love because it's all freshly made.
And I got...
Let's check out the bar.
Let me ask you.
So how would you rate this compared to the SQ Private Dining Lounge?
I think the SQ one is better.
Feeling a bit tired.
After the long journey from the city to the airport.
Let's go, let's go.
Sushi.
I'm not going to have too much expectations of the sushi here really.
Oh, it looks pretty decent to me.
Do you miss having the katsu curry?
Is it katsu curry?
And the udon.
Do they have soba?
They do, they do have soba.
Okay, but I'm going to eat some more on the plane.
So I'm not going to have too much.
Hey guys, we've come to the end of our Japan trip.
But actually, I'm on my way to another city at the moment.
We did a closing for the previous vlog.
But unfortunately, the mic was faulty.
But anyway, we had a great time.
And we're glad to be able to go back to Japan again after three and a half years.
Because we love Japan and we always have a good time with the food, the people, the shopping.
So I hope you guys enjoyed following us on this journey.
And I'll see you all in my next video.
Thank you for watching and sayonara.
