nights at the debris village lots of clay work on the kiln got the main bulk of it finished just the last door to do on the top to close it off a little work on the 3 story shelter and a all round epic time thanks for watching
Yeah, I'm back at the village, two nights with Tim. We're going to get the kiln finished,
we're going to get the two-storey shelter completely boxed off so I can start on other
things. So yeah, this camp's just pretty much get all the things I've got going at the same time
finished, boxed off and done and then yeah, carry on with Tim there. Just out collecting some more
pine off a fallen pine tree and yeah, I've got a joint of pork to roast tomorrow night.
What else? We'll bring you back as we go again. We're in the hole for pounding clay,
dug a hole as well, been using this for about three weeks now. We got here and it was flooded
and we're just mixing it up now and yeah, we'll put it in the pan and take it back to camp.
Pardon me, that's not random or that. Totally cut that bit out. It's like when you're on the
beach and you get sand up in your toes. Apart from this is clay that smells a little funky.
I like it because it's squidgy. It's like making dough.
That's pretty much what it is, apart from you can't eat it.
Dry stuffing with the wet stuff and there's loads of little stones in this too
which will hopefully give the clay a little bit of strength. Well it won't hopefully,
it will because it has done. Obviously this is still standing.
It's so squidgy. Barbecue charcoal.
So I've finished weaving all this, like you can see the new gaps, all the way around is done.
I've also built this lean-to this afternoon. It's awesome. I've pined it and everything is
just ready to get finished off. There's just this side, started to do the bottom here so
we're going to mould the door into here like a portal and yeah the sun's going down.
I've also put a sort of front of this, sort of guttering. You can't see the blue tarp as much
on this side, still got the back side to dim. I've got another good bit to the kiln too.
We're rolling for the first night. I've got stuff everywhere and I've just got the roof to do too
because I took it all off to pack it down better. Yeah and also I put pine on the front to break up
the side of the shelter. Aye, moon tonight. We don't get too much cloud coverage.
And this is where I'm sleeping tonight in my normal shelter. I've got my cot out, my sleeping
bag on there, roll mat. It's going to be snug. I've just caught my back on that there. I think
I've just ripped myself up a bit. It's not bleeding but it's all good. I'll show you
in the morning when it's daylight. The sun's pretty much going down now. Just a head torch
light. Kiln's firing off still. Second layer's almost dry and needs tidied up. It's awesome.
Tim's getting his hammock set up. Hello Tim. Hi, how's it going? Good, good, you? Yeah.
Just about to get the fire. I'm gonna light the main fire, warm up my shelter a bit.
I've lit the main fire now just because it's getting a bit nippy and I want to heat up my shelter a bit.
Put a good pile on. Lots of wood. Brought in lots of piles of it before so
loads to keep the kiln drying and the fire going at the same time. Well I am all set up now.
Sleeping bag. Got a slant and burn in there Tim. Yeah, we're gonna get going on some extreme wok
cooking. Thinks of that Tim. That's how we do it. Just heating up my wok and glaze it with a
bit of oil and that. Wow, that wok is glowing. Epic. Make some chicken fajitas. Tim's put a
handle on my wok for us so I don't keep on melting my gloves on the heat of the wok.
Well he's just propping it up. It's brilliant. You can totally still see them moving about.
Is it raining?
So I've got a bit of nice olive oil in there.
Put my chicken fillet. Nice big strips to give us some of the chib.
However I really don't think I could fit any more fillet in that pan.
Put my old El Paso seasoning in. I just put it all in Tim.
Good old mix of veg in there. One big wok full of food. Kiln cooking.
Right, kiln cooking. There we have them.
My favourite time of the night. Cream cake time.
That's me all tucked up in my sleeping bag now. Lying right next to the fire which is
pretty much behind the camera. Yeah, feeling the heat from it too. It's nice. I'm gonna chill and
drink some juice before I go to bed and catch you all in the morning.
So I woke up at about four a bit warm so I stripped off right down to my t-shirt.
Not that you need to see that. That would make me put an 18 mark on my video if I had to do that.
Yeah, slept amazingly. I've noticed a small leak come through the side of my
shoulder but it's just a case of a small fix. Used my socks to fill it in last night.
It's a beautiful sunny morning but we've had a lot of torrential rain through the night.
Just proper put our fire out, fire out team and sort of flooded the camp floor a bit but I imagine
it'll dry out quite fast. I'm just gonna chill here for another 10 minutes and stretch out
and then get up for coffee. Big shallot looks crazy. Checking all the shallots now in this
raised bed that I built inside. The thing is still nice and dry too which is awesome.
And this one here too, not one single drop of rain. That's where I slept last week and that's
where we had all our kit and we've got our little stove on there and Tim slept here.
That's our ladder to the downstairs which is almost finished weaving.
Three full walls and a half wall done. Just a little bit there and a little bit on this side
to do and we're grand. And again once all this dies off, pack it down and re-weave the top
just so it's extra tight. Just brewing up on Tim's little alcohol stove. Can't even see the flame.
Breakfast's been had. We've had bacon rolls. We're heading out now to get the rest of the
kiln and get it finished. The height line level on it. Got to bring it right to about here. So
another like half a foot on that. Then we're gonna fire the hell out of it. We've got a load of
charcoal. Yeah, I'm filling a lot of cracks but that shouldn't take too long. They're only on
the new level. So just this was my load I carried back and that was Tim's load there. I'm gonna
save that for the sausages to make the kiln higher because that's the thicker stuff. This stuff is
more of a cement sort of thing to fill in cracks, seal it all up before we start layering it up
again. You can see the time lapse of the next one on Tim Robson's video. We'll put a link down
below that again so you can see his part of him doing the kiln and all that. We have a lot of
We took the easy way and just bought some instead of making it. We've made charcoal before
for the to work the heat treat the steel line. Oh wow, stand next to that sucker Tim. That's like
waist high now. That is the last and final layer on the kiln. So you'll see where the knobbly bits
there. That's where the shelf's going to sit. So there'll be all this space to fire stuff in
which is a large amount of space. So we're going to get this bad boy fired off now.
Let's do it Tim. You've died to use all this charcoal haven't you? Yep. Charcoal's on. I'm
going to melt my lens. So heating that. You can see it drawing such air in from the base. It's
spiraling. It's starting to spiral. Look at it. It's like tornadoing round. Is it bigger chap?
Whoa. You're left with chunks of charcoal. Let's just wear that a little bit. Listen to this.
Man it's white hot now. It's insane isn't it? Just dumped a load more charcoal on it.
Look that's white hot down there. That's the bottom hole.
I've got a little crack but I think it's only surface. It doesn't go all the way through
too much. We can fix that when it cools down next. Awesome. Can I see the steam coming off that?
Yeah so wait wait wait. This is my steel spit roast pole. It's like a threaded bolt steel thing
and out of curiosity because we need it for the spit roast tonight, I said to Tim it would be
nice if we could put a point on it. So what have you done Tim? Put it in the base of the kiln.
It's been in for two minutes. Two minutes. Wow. And that's in daylight. That's daylight people.
That is epic. This is pretty much how we made that small knife that time on that Dakota fire pit.
Don't smash the kiln Tim. It's going into the rock isn't it?
Sandstone. It's awesome. So we've given up on using rocks and this is not the proper use for an axe.
Please Tim do as less damage as you possibly can. I've just stuck my axe in the wood. It's a small
place to work on isn't it? It's cooled reasonably far down. It's gone cool already. Put it back in.
It's not as if we're in a rush. But that's way better than that. Right we'll put it back on the
handle just so I can show people how it's started to, see it's started to just going to bang a point
on it. So it goes into the meat easier. Right back in the hot spots.
Tim's proper doing this properly. He's just setting up his camera and his tripod.
And we've got a pot full of olive oil. And what are you going to do with that Tim? I'm going to quench
the tip of the spit roast bowl for no reason other than I'm just doing it. Is it going to go on fire?
No it shouldn't flash because it's olive oil. If I was using motor oil or sometimes vegetable oil
it would it would flash. But I'm not going to do it right now anyway. I need to hit it with the
hammer a few times first. Cookie bites. Oh I wanted to see it explode.
Like I said olive oil's got sort of a clear cement sort of thing. When we get deep cracks
we'll just pour a bit onto the crack and it'll just trickle into it and then with the fire
burning into it really fast it'll harden. See where it's dripped down in the hardened
ground just to bind till it cools down and we can proper fix it. It's hard to get near.
Just been bringing in a load of firewood. Tim and me got lots. Getting the main fire on the go
and yeah get some lunch on the go and that's the finished point from the spit roast.
Absolutely awesome. So we're going to use that layer. For now you can tell I have the grill
on the kiln and all those red hot charcoals in the bottom of there. I'm going to use to cook
some bacon and some gammon steaks on. Some rolls on the go. Put all this munch down here.
I'm starving. Bacon and I've got nice gammon steaks from my awesome butchers over the road
from my house. The rock when it comes to large pieces of meat. Behind it. It's awesome.
Things you do at camp when you're a little bit bored. Oh what a shot. You're a proper
spear thrower now Tim. Did you get that on? I did, I did. That was awesome work there.
Show everybody. Look at that. Nailed the log with the spit roast pork. Just bring you a little bit.
So it's lunchtime and we're gonna have bacon and then gammon. Got some nice gammon steaks as I
said. I've got this bacon spare so I'm just cooking off that first. The old kiln cooking.
That's where it hit but look that that's that's old rust marks man. Yeah that was already weak
and you probably just busted in a bit. Yeah that's where it hit and it did penetrate the metal.
Try again harder. Yeah that's awesome. I like when I'm eating bacon I like the bacon fat
to be nicely crisp so that you know when you bite into it it just dissolves
and that is like an awesome cooked bit of bacon.
Oh yes toasting the rolls as well. Oh my gosh so good. So the next thing I've got to cook on the
kiln is two extra giant bits of gammon steak. That being one. Just opened the backpacks now.
And that being two. Heading to get the last batch of clay for the night
and then I'm not leaving camp again tonight. There's Tim. Straight ahead Tim.
It's like it's like literally a wilderness maze in these woodlands. So easy to get lost. Yeah
pretty done for. Look at that for a skyline. Back to the pounding pit. See the clay in the soil too.
Without the bottom door. With the bottom door. It's awesome. Main fire burning over here.
We've decided we're not going to cook the spit roast pork. We're just gonna carry on working
through. Still got a lot to do and it's pretty much getting twilight. So yeah just plodding on.
We're gonna stop for some cakes and treats later on with a brew and we'll bring you back for that.
We'll do some more cooking another time. That's when there isn't so much some big workload to do.
That's it. Nighttime people with the new head torch. So much more light. We've just been finishing
patching up everything. All the cracks and everything. Just getting ready to heat it up
and fire it again. Tim's got hiccups. Main fire's going too. It's good. It's warming up my shelter
nicely. That's an awesome head torch Tim. I'm chuffed to bits with that. Cheap buy Tim. Look at how tidy
that is now we've filled in all the cracks. That's it. That's the full height it's gonna be. You can see
inside the lips. It's still wet in there. Tim's built a new door for the bottom too. Looks awesome.
I am very impressed with this head torch you know. But I'm not telling you the name we don't do that.
It's very impressive. That's it. I'm all worked out. Chilling in my bed next to the fire.
That's Tim in the distance. You see his light. That's my new head torch there. Cost me £12.95.
Nothing amazing in price wise anyways. But yeah I've just been playing around with getting better
lighting and there's nothing wrong with the head torch I'm using. In a second I'll show you that.
Yeah the head torch I'm using but it's about a year and a half I've been using this one
and the wires come out of there and it's it's like yeah it's it's probably about three trips
from setting my hair on fire. Look at it. Look I've just looked in now right and there's actually
bare wires on it. Yeah it's just wear and tear but for again for like £12 head torch for the
time I've had it I can't complain. I like a good bargain. So yeah happy with the new one.
I might fix that actually just cut it off and repair it in and make the wire a little bit
shorter. Still some use in it. Tucked up for another night in my bed. We'll catch y'all in
the morning. We're packing up camp. Getting ready to hit the road. It's all my shelter sorted.
Apart from the tarp that's on the floor and stuff here. Kiln's dried nicely.
Look at that the new door too. Awesome work. That door's still warm Tim. Yeah. Well guys that's us
for another week. Well hopefully not a week this time. We'll be seeing you sooner hopefully
and yeah everything's tidied up sorted and boxed off and we'll catch you all soon.
Thanks for watching. Put this tarp up to protect the kiln.
