Bull Trout Fishing in the Kootenays

In my previous video I mentioned that I had a plane ticket and I do and I'm pleased to announce that tomorrow morning after all the paperwork is completed and my PCR test is negative I am going to Thailand. In this video we load up the Kootenay fishing adventure. That's right, we've headed to one of the best destinations for giant bull trout in the Kootenays. We arrive at our camp, unload all the gear, we even brought a deep freeze there next to the tree to keep all our fish nicely frozen. We set up our wall tents, brought in our cots and set up the wood stove and diesel heater to keep things nice and toasty while we're not out on the water slaying bullies. Tradition in the Canadian Rocky Mountains when the ice comes off the water we put the boats in and we have our first annual men's fishing trip of the year and you're along for the journey. As we head down the lake we are graced with some fantastic springtime views of the Purcell and Selkirk mountain ranges. As we narrow into the honey hole it's time to get our gear ready and get all rigged up. Daryl makes sure the lures are nice and sharp and sharp they were we got the band-aids to prove it. When we hit the spot it's time to put the trolling motor into action. It's time to put our lines in the water and we wait and we wait and we wait patiently with the hopes that with a glance we see a bouncing tip, a strike and you know what that means, that means fish on. The quota for this lake was two bull trout each so we decided we weren't keeping anything under five pounds and after the weigh-in if they didn't hit the mark we'd take a selfie and throw it back to catch another day. But sometimes when the fishing gods were smiling down upon us we'd hook into a lunker. Turn to the right Randy. Turn to the right Randy. Easy, easy, easy, easy. Holy! You're a fish Randy. Yeah! Halfway through the day we stopped to hook up with the boys for some hot lunch on the grill. Oh looks good Daryl. How's the dogs coming along there? How's the day going there boys? Good now that we got some smokers. After lunch we just kept catching more fish all afternoon. Fishing any lake in the Kootenay region is always tons of fun. Sometimes you hook in a real fighter and sometimes you reel in nothing at all. That's just the way she goes boys. At the end of the day we head back to camp with huge smiles on our faces. Memories of another epic fishing adventure. Exhausted from wrestling bull trout all day long. As we get back to camp there's nothing left to do but light the fire and get the party started.
