A 300-Year-Old London Townhouse, Lovingly Looked After

character seen a lot of houses and London has some great properties of different eras when we saw this place it really was remarkable it was rescued in the 90s by the spitter Fields trust so it's been here since 1717 and survived a lot of events through that time when we first saw the house we realized how well we being looked after through the last 30 years but of course we could also see the potential in making it our own as well 305 years old a huge amount of responsibility to to not mess the place up previous owner had really really cared for the home and high quality materials and choices it certainly doesn't feel like we're forcing any style or trying to turn it into something or it's almost inherent in just using the space it's coming together in its own way [Music] there's so much beautiful paneling and cornishing of fireplaces and everything some of the approach we've taken with flooring and and other surfaces and to simplify everything down because there's so much to look at in terms of the detail of the house and how it's constructed [Music] we went through a lot of color swatches to ultimately choose just one or two because the light changes throughout the day in the different rooms it's one color but it feels like there's lots going on in there be open to all combinations of how you could live in a home but there's there's nothing like moving in and they're kind of trying to figure out in different seasons and just listening to the building almost the way the house is arranged is across four levels and start the day on in the basement the kitchen having breakfast working from home we're going to be on the ground floor in the reception area afternoon and evening to come up to this room and enjoy the space here and the afternoon lights coming in it's a south facing route which is really nice and as the day goes on you kind of elevate back up to the top of the house again living in a more mindful way I think is is something that a house like this brings there are some clues in the way that the building works and that's given us a few ideas of how to use it ourselves as well [Music] you shouldn't have to be worrying about the house all the time you know a place like this requires upkeep so just making it hard wearing it's often about thinking about how you want to be here how you want to live although obviously how something looks that's what you instinctively respond to I think it's really important that it works and it works for how you want to live [Music]
