Hey guys, Mike Chang here in Tokyo, Japan, before getting into this video, a little Japanese snack time with the sponsor of this video,
Sakurako and Tokyo Treat. Let's open Tokyo Treat first. And this month's theme is
Japan's Best Bites. And if you guys don't know, Tokyo Treat and Sakurako are Japanese
subscription snack boxes, both curated right here in Japan. And as soon as you open the box, you're gonna get a booklet describing to you
exactly what snacks are inside the box, where the snacks are from, little cultural fun facts about Japan,
and this month's box includes some nori chips. Ooh, melon KitKat. I always look forward to the KitKat flavor of the month.
I love this. Corn puffs, Mito-style udon. These are so good.
So these two boxes are actually very different from each other. With Tokyo Treat, you'll get up to 20 of the most exclusive,
latest, limited edition and seasonal flavor snacks that are only available in Japan, like their ramens, limited edition KitKats.
It's basically a very fun, very pop culture oriented snack box. And with Sakurako, this month's theme is Taste of Japan.
Just like Tokyo Treat, you're gonna get a booklet describing to you all the snacks, all the snack makers. And this box comes with 20 traditional
artisanal, authentic Japanese snacks, including Japanese teas and a special Japanese tableware item every single month. And this month's theme being Taste of Japan.
So each snack is gonna be unique to one of Japan's 47 perfectures. We have some cream cake from Osaka.
That's so fluffy and airy. That's gonna go really well with the tea from Kyoto.
And the tableware item for this month is this beautiful little side dish.
And I love the fact that this company's mission statement is to promote
traditional Japanese culture through the medium of snacking, which there's really no better way to do that. In case in point, a lot of the snack
makers they've been working with has been making snacks for over a hundred years. And again,
every single snack item is curated here in Japan, delivered to your door anywhere in the world. Like I always say,
there's no better way to get to know a culture than taking a bite out of it. And with this, you're not just feeding here,
you're also feeding here. So if you want to give it a try, go to my link down below, use my promo code Mikey.
You'll get $5 off your first Sakurako box or $5 off your first Tokyo treat box.
All right, I'm gonna finish my breakfast and enjoy the video.
Guys, Mike Chen here in the heart of Tokyo, this area called Harajuku. This place,
this is a very bustling district and the food is mainly known for crepes. But today we're not here for that. First stop
we're gonna make is an Onigiri sandwich. Then, A5 Wagyu out of a food truck. And showing me around today, my good friend Gaurav.
Let's go meet him right now. What's up my friend? Hey, what's up guys? Good to see you. Good to see you again.
Hope you're hungry. I'm always hungry and you always deliver some amazing food. So here we're getting some sandwiches and then some Wagyu.
I know we're going to the last place, but I'm sure it's gonna be amazing. I'll keep the last place as a surprise.
But yeah, right up here, we have the first place. Let's get going. Let's go.
I don't really speak much English here, but I'll help you translate and they're all really cool.
And we can go in the kitchen and film everything. So right down here.
The shop is called Utsushisan no Pork Tamago Onigiri and she is the founder.
Okay, it's just been around for one year. So they use sushi rice, they use sweet tamago,
which you typically find at a sushi restaurant. Right. And they use baked spam and you can pick their toppings and it's all wrapped up
in like a cool sandwich, which is really easy to eat. Good on the go. Each one's like three or four dollars.
Okay. Well, I can't wait to try it.
So we're just making a makeshift picnic here.
We each got a box and each of them have four different types.
The one all the way on the left is tuna mayonnaise. Then the one next to that with the red is the cod roe.
Next to that is taco meat.
Okay, so what is taco? Is this beef?
It sounds good. I like that. The one all the way on the right is a spicy mustard leaf.
I think that's what you call it in English. Takana. Let's start with the tuna. That seems to be the most lightest one.
It's beautifully made. So the process is kind of interesting. The tamago you said is from high-end sushi shops.
Slightly sweet one. And the rice you put into the spinner. What does that do? So that mixes the vinegar with the rice.
It's like the perfect way to mix it and that's how they use it at high-end sushi shops as well.
It should be pretty darn good sushi rice. Tamago, there's lettuce, spam and the extra ingredient that we all got in this case, tuna.
Cheers.
That is good.
That's really good. The seaweed wrap is delicious. Tamago, I was afraid, is gonna be too sweet.
But it's not. Surprisingly, it goes well with this.
Perfectly melty. It adds that extra richness. Spam. It's called tulip. I think in some countries tulip is more popular.
Apparently people say it tastes better. I don't know the difference too well.
I'm not like a spam connoisseur, but what do you think of it? I like the lettuce. That's like a little bit of crisp.
It looks fairly simple, but I feel like also every single ingredient is well thought out.
Like you said, lettuce is nice and snappy and greens add additional freshness. I love the spam. Yeah, it's so nice.
Yeah, I'm a fan of spam. I love eating spam. The tamago, like I said, just the saltiness of spam and the tamago just so nice.
It's very zen. You taste the tuna. The rice is delicious. The rice is super good.
I like it. Let's try the taco meat. Taco meat? It's really interesting. There's a few shops that sell things like this.
I've never seen taco meat as a topping.
Tastes like a Taco Bell onigiri. In a good way. In a very good way.
It tastes like exactly like Taco Bell meat. Of course, added awesomeness of the spam and tamago. It goes surprisingly well.
I could eat this all day long.
It's so convenient too. Everything's like beautifully labeled. Oh, it's beautiful. It's like a nice gift. Mentaiko. Mm-hmm. You're a fan.
I'm a big fan of mentaiko.
I love mentaiko.
I know it's not one of your favorites. I thought I didn't like it, but it's pretty good in this.
Yeah, that's so much added umami that those fish eggs bring.
I'm not a huge fan of it, but I could definitely eat this.
This might be my favorite.
I know they sell these a lot at convenience stores.
It's just so much fresher here.
You gotta pay like a dollar more, but I think it's worth it.
That was the last one.
Spicy mustard leaf. Spicy mustard leaf.
Takana.
Miso taste.
Yeah, big miso taste.
Seems simple, but there's a lot going on.
It's like a little sandwich.
Yeah, it's simply delicious. That's what it is.
Love it. Highly recommend.
But we're a little late to our next place.
Which is really important.
The next place is crazy.
This guy's serving A5 Wagyu brisket out of a food truck in Motesanda.
Which is next to Harajuku.
Never been done before.
Let's go. We'll get this on the way.
Hagiwara-san. Nice to meet you.
This guy is Hagiwara-san's food truck in Motesanda.
He drove down from Nagano today.
Thank you for doing that, by the way.
Mike actually inspired him to start this whole business.
The video we did together.
That's you. You can take credit for that.
The video we did last time you were here with the Wagyu brisket.
Hagiwara-san saw it on YouTube.
And he was like, I want to try that.
So he started watching YouTube videos and mastering barbecue.
And I think he's mastered it.
And today, do you have any special meat?
Minim Wagyu.
It's called Minim.
Minim Wagyu.
It's a special type of Wagyu.
They only have 70 in a year.
It's really hard to get.
I'm really excited about this. So what are we cooking today?
We brought some of his famous spare ribs.
And of course, that massive chunk of brisket.
He was working last night.
From 10pm to 11am.
Oh, okay.
From last night 10pm until 11am this morning.
This guy has not slept.
Over 12 hours this thing has been cooking.
This is going to be amazing.
Thank you so much.
So as soon as the beef was uncovered,
you smell that smoke right away.
You smell the marbling.
Look how beautiful this is.
It's just radiating aroma.
And my mouth hasn't stopped watering
ever since this has come out of the packaging.
That is just so pretty.
Pure meat waterfall.
Look at the ring around that beef.
You can see the marbling in the cut.
I know, it's crazy.
Oh, the smoke ring.
Just glorious.
Please YouTube don't flag this
for inappropriate content because
it is just too graphically meaty
and juicy.
You always take me to the best meat places in Japan.
And we got the burnt ends.
This is the best pieces right here.
Thank you so much.
It's like a mouthful of meat, butter, and smoke.
That's what you're getting.
With that nice char as well.
Thank you so much for working so hard.
So not only are we getting the brisket,
they fried rice
cooked in the fat of the wagyu.
Like smoked fat they said.
They smoked the fat and I guess broke it down.
So it's not just like smoked fat.
And then made the fries.
And then there's truffle on there,
there's horseradish dipping sauce.
The wagyu is still glistening.
I'm looking at it.
The juice doesn't stop running.
That is just ultimate beauty.
Yeah, you can taste the smoke.
It's so good.
Shoestring smoked wagyu fries.
Truffle horseradish.
It's so good.
The fat in the wagyu is a lot sweeter.
And it makes it really easy to eat.
Sour cream, horseradish, truffle oil.
Horseradish is obviously delicious with fat.
It balances it out so well.
And the beef is still leaking.
I can't stop looking at this.
It's like a leaking faucet
that we haven't fixed up yet.
After we patched it like 10 times.
I look over and it's just a meaty waterfall.
And it's just non-stop.
Look at that.
It's non-stop.
And we're not touching it.
It's just naturally oozing juice.
It's been like 10-15 minutes.
Just tapping it with a plastic spork.
It just sinks right in.
And it's just pure juice.
I feel like the spork is perfect.
Because once you glide through the meat
with the sharp ends,
the juice can just fill the spoon.
This is the fattier piece right here.
Look at that.
Smoke ring first of all.
Also you can see all the marbling
rivering through the meat.
And it's just one of the most beautiful things
you'll ever see.
Just use the spork and tear this thing apart.
And there you go.
Look at that piece right there.
Cheers buddy.
You don't need your teeth.
I have a list of foods
I have a list of foods that I call
NTM foods.
No teeth needed foods.
Because I want to keep a list.
One day I'm like 90 and I don't have any teeth anymore.
I just go back to the foods.
I don't need teeth to chew.
It's pure beef butter.
I'm literally cutting this piece with my spork.
You can't do this to normal beef with plastic spork.
No.
Chase it with some crispy fries.
This is absolute perfection.
I think they made this sauce
to go with the brisket.
I've never had a horseradish sauce with brisket.
Try some. It balances out the fat really well.
Dunk it in the sauce.
Yeah.
Perfect combination.
The fattiest, juiciest brisket I've ever had
in reference is in Texas.
That is really juicy, really fatty.
Comes off the bones super easily.
This is maybe at least 10 times fattier
and softer than that.
He even trimmed off 10 pounds of fat
almost off the raw cut.
It still left so rich
so flavorful
and has a subtle sweetness to me.
It's a special characteristic of this specific Wagyu he's using.
He learned everything
from YouTube
and just researching.
Three years.
Congratulations.
It's amazing.
Thank you so much.
Coffee sauce.
Pour it on, bro.
It definitely tastes like coffee.
I was never a fan of coffee sauce until I had it here.
It's got this nice tang to it too.
The meat's already waking up
all your taste buds
and the coffee just adds an additional element of that.
I want to try the spicy sauce.
That sauce is off the hook.
I like this.
The hot and sour.
It's got very good heat.
I like things that bite you.
Best beef I've had from a food truck in my life.
By far.
I never thought you could get
an A5 Wagyu from a food truck.
Rare cut of Wagyu in a food truck
near Harajuku. It's so crazy.
Where's this food truck going to be?
They're always here.
They're not here every day.
Monday through Thursday.
I'll put the information down below if you guys are walking through Harajuku.
It's just so unassuming.
This is a really quiet neighborhood.
Follow your nose because you will be smelling
this brisket for blocks.
Amazing. Thank you so much.
Arigatou gozaimasu.
Wonderful job. Thank you.
This cafe we're going to
is really interesting.
It's called Ana Kuma Cafe.
Ana means hole and kuma means bear.
Let's show you why it's called that.
Ana Kuma Cafe.
Inside, there's the hole
and there's the bear.
Can I assume the bear hands you the drinks?
Hands you the drinks, hands you the donuts.
There's no staff here.
It's a real bear inside.
You just order it right here.
You don't talk to anyone.
You don't do anything.
You pick the menu.
Like a frappuccino.
We're going to get some donuts probably.
You put in your money here and then you wait
and the bear just...
The bear gives it to you.
Oh, is that mine?
Thank you very much.
Arigatou very much.
That's pretty good.
Trying to say something.
What is there?
Oh, bags. Nice.
So we got our drinks
and then they have donuts inside as well.
You have to do something like this
when you're in Japan.
It's like a fun little cafe.
There's so many different
really cool, interesting cafe concepts in the city.
Thank you.
That's yours, buddy.
Wow, so beautiful.
Thank you, bear.
The bear just gave each one of us a rose.
Is he trying to tell you something?
I think so.
Perfect after Wagyu.
Good donuts.
Hey man, appreciate another fun day here in Tokyo.
Thanks for joining.
You got a lot of stuff going on.
You got a food tour opening up soon.
Yeah, we're going to launch that soon.
Kind of like today, we're going to show you guys
all these cool spots in Harajuku
that you've probably never heard of.
Harajuku is a lot more than just crepes
as you saw today.
That should be live in like a month or two.
We'll put the information down below
so they can have a place to go and check you guys out.
I would appreciate that.
You guys make tons of amazing videos
all around Japan.
Check it out, guys. Really amazing stuff.
A lot of stuff that no one's ever seen.
A lot of these places don't ever get covered
in any sort of English media.
Unless you're Japanese or speak Japanese,
you probably have never heard of them.
I'm so happy you had fun today.
Always do, man. Appreciate it.
Always fun getting another Wagyu brisket with you.
As always, thank you all so much for watching.
Until we eat again, see you later.
