CAMPING IN MOAB UTAH
Have you always wanted to see Utah's National Parks like arches?
Today we're going to tell you how to do that without having to make a camping
reservation an entire year in advance.
Until I'm here and returning subscribers and to anyone who's just found us,

be talking about how you can go camping near Utah's National Parks without
having to have a reservation. Now don't get me wrong if you're a
planner and you want to make a reservation
you can do that and in fact I highly suggest it especially if you want things
like water hookups, electrical hookups, sewer
hookups. Those are the kind of campgrounds you'll want
reservations for but if you're okay boondocking it there's ways to do that
as well. The first tip I would have for you is to
know where you can and cannot legally boondock. There's a
great app for that it's called Allstays and it's perfect
for people who are pulling an RV or a trailer or in a camper.
It will tell you all kinds of things, tunnel height, overpass height,
all kinds of things but it will also tell you
where you can camp on BLM land and down near Zion's and Arches National Park
there is BLM land that you can camp on for free. The Allstays app
costs $10 but it is so worth it. If you choose to boondock near Moab
one thing you're going to want to have is a good map because you could get out
there in that wilderness and get lost very easily. So have a good map or a good
GPS. Don't rely on your phone because cell
phone coverage is intermittent. One time you'll have it and you might
drive a mile or two and not have any at all.
As far as hiking in like Arches our recommendation
would be to hike early. When we hiked to Delicate Arch
we drove into the park at about 4 30 or 5 in the morning so that we were hiking
right at 5am. It's quite a hike but if I could make it
anybody can and it's worth it. It is in my opinion one of the most
beautiful places on earth. Also make sure you take lots of water. If
you think that you personally will need three or four water bottles for the day
I would pack six or seven. There is no water available out there for drinking
so make sure that you have plenty of water.
Make sure if you're boondocking that you are aware of the
water levels in whatever outfit you're boondocking in because there is
no place to fill up. If you're going to bring a picnic or just some snacks to
eat on the way make sure to bring a way to carry out
your own trash. Don't leave anything in the parks littering it.
Another thing you're going to want to have a really good sunscreen and
really good sunglasses. Another great piece of advice
is to let someone know who's not with you
where you're going and about when you're expected to be back.
So just in case something happens and you're not back when you expect it
because maybe you get a flat tire, maybe you
run out of water, maybe you've broken an arm. That happened
to me. Some things happen and they need to send
help. We love to go rock crawling in Moab. It is one of our favorite things to do.
If you've never done this before you might think that it's not legal.
It is and in fact it's one of the top things to do in Moab.
You obviously cannot go rock crawling in the state parks or the national parks
like in Arches or in Zion but there are plenty of areas outside of those parks
to go rock crawling. Make sure you stay on the trail and when
you're on the slick rock the trail is marked by
white lines. Stick to the trail and don't veer off and you won't get into any
legal trouble by the rangers. Also remember if you are boondocking
near town it is legal to drive your off-road
vehicles in town so make sure you're obeying all the traffic laws and obeying
especially the speed limit and in fact slow down. The Jeep Safari
that happens over Easter weekend is one of the most popular times to be
there. So if you're interested in watching the
Jeeps climb these kind of trails Easter weekend is your best bet. Reserve
early or get there very early if you're boondocking. So those are our tips for
boondocking and camping near Moab, Utah. In the comment section let us know any
tips you've picked up and let us know when your favorite time to go to Moab.
Is it Easter weekend for the Jeep Safari or is it in the fall?
Thanks so much for watching. We'll see you next time.
