WILD HAMMOCK CAMP- 2 NIGHTS

Dyna'r llwybrau'r stryd yn fflickio Well torrential rain and gale force winds and I'm off camping to meet Tim Two nights hammock camping I've switched up my gear this week Tim So instead of a regular mat I'm using a DD underquilt So yeah we'll see if we can get a good shot of that The moon's bright but the weather is terrible and it's cold There needs to be some road maintenance happening Cleaning some things up My kit as you can see doesn't have a raw mat The DD underquilt is just at the top of my bag All my tarps are in the bottom so I can just take the sleeping bag off and get the tarps out really really fast Food bag Yeah it's windy as you can see I'm at the rendezvous point now Palabench Just waiting for Tim So Tim has arrived and I've been here for about four and a half minutes and he came in pretty much quite fast So it's getting really cold now So we're going to head to some kind of campsite where we can set up and see how far we can go And we have the tunnel is dry although another foot and I think it'll be flooded Tim Easy easy It's deep dark and fast It's kind of hot out in the trees right now Just having a look at trying to get across to my base camp that normally floods Just trying to get through to it to see if it's suitable or not Just found a nice log by the stream Result And we're on somewhat dry land It's desolate It is desolate and there is wind damage Right look at that That is a massive break Another one there Right through a river Yeah we can't camp here With the rain coming tomorrow It's just going to flood too easily Right fell onto the next one Higher up Just been brewing up quickly Coffee in my Crusader cup I'm just going to start setting up my hammock And Tim is pretty much doing the same So yeah I've got my setup all figured out now The underquilt is on my hammock Yeah Can't wait to try it out That's quite a modest setup Tim Tim is heading that way So we can position our fire properly It blocks the wind It's all set up And there too it was sorted It was a homemade underquilt This is my little makeshift kitchen Underneath my hammock and tarp Just a tarp and a wool blanket that I'm sitting on Because the fire's right there So we're having sirloin steaks and ham and mushroom tagliatelle in a cream sauce And a chocolate cake for dessert Because they're quite a long walk in This is my emergency camp We've got our brew station set up over there Tim is just taking care of the fire Getting it ready for cooking and burning off a grill in a second Result I have my grill fired up I've got my pan on just above the grill Just heating up my pasta Looking good I've split my fire into two Hot ashes on the front And twigs that I've just pulled out of the base And then the actual fire on the back That's what I usually do This makes you much easier to control the heat And you also get a nice even heat as well And if you want it further away just put more sticks across here to raise your grill I've got the steaks covered Pasta is doing well Doing well I'm starving I can't wait Then we have our steak and mushroom and ham tagliatelle in cream sauce I'm going to take a shower before it gets too cold Chocolate cake We each have half Just chilling next to our fire now The wind's picking up a lot I've just put the zebra can on for a cup of tea before I go to bed I'm outside my home Underquilt I don't actually feel any coldness coming through yet And it's much more comfortable without a yoga mat Just going to check if it's good Epic night Wind and rain are expected to be strong between seven and three We'll catch you all in the morning Well guys really good sleep I've woken up dry without the roll mat And I really feel the benefit of an underquilt It's like a big difference You can really feel the big difference in warmth between a roll mat and an underquilt And that's just my first ever night in an underquilt Yeah you don't feel the cold air coming through the sides either because it's sealed pretty well Yeah See how tonight goes And I'm not going to judge too soon But I'm definitely going to use it for a while Just because it's nice to not have a wet sleeping bag when I wake up in the morning Because you're in the hammock I love it I didn't even zip my sleeping bag up last night Not that I can because I broke a zip on it So I've got a new one coming But I've got my softies on I didn't put my softie pants on So nice and warm Got my brew right there coffee Tim's a little bit of steam coming off the fire Good morning Tim Good morning buddy This is my small emergency location for when the lower ones are flooded If you looked last night there was some flooding down there in my base camps It's probably just going to rain all day Tim's just made us a fire pit Look at that Epic That's going to be awesome when it's raging We just need one more piece Yeah we just need a last bit to go in that hole there I suppose we could shape this stone a bit if we wanted No no There's no point in skimping on size We could even put that little bit there a small part angled out Yeah And fit them in So it's a little bit bigger With that round one on its end Yeah yeah Let's drive my Gore-Tex I've got the bacon cooking Rolling breakfast time That's the second batch of bacon on First one's done That's the second batch of bacon done I really love bacon cheese rolls Our second batch of cheese rolls Bring it on I do love our new fire pit It's now pushing the heat in a lot more It stops the wind from blowing on it There's our motor setup now We're just going to stay here for tonight That saves us from packing up all the wet tarps and that An awesome dry stone fire Love it I'm just going to check out the river See how high it is We heard some gunshots that were really close I'm just going to see if I can see anybody It sounds like a shotgun It looks like there's a filming session happening over there Vans and all vehicles parked in a field Look at that Our fire is absolutely roasting now It's just drying all the wood we 've put over here Brilliant I like this camp Gore-Tex jackets hanging and drying It's already getting dark And it's only about half past three in the afternoon And we're just about to have lunch So yeah late lunch Late tea So yep We're just chilling next to our fire Because it's getting down to one degree now As the sun's going down So it'll probably be a minus later So yeah fire is awesome Much better grill section now Loving it Nice and flat for my burgers when I get them on Our fire is absolutely I just love it The heat is yeah obscene Putting it far away so it's a nice slow cook And I'll put it close to brown and crisp them up Just because I don't want to burn them on this fire Because the heat is unbearable I can actually feel it I'm like maybe a foot and a half away And I can my eyebrows are burning I'm on fire Burgers are nicely browned I do like a burger We're going to have them in cheese rolls I'm just reheating the cheese rolls The burgers are done Results Here we go Burgers And tomato sauce Nice fast one It's been such an amazing relaxed day today So I'm just getting some tea on the go before bed Some gammon steaks spaghetti carbonara jam roly poly pudding And I've got custard left to go on So yeah we'll show you that bad boy when it's finished I do like gammon We'll split that sandstone as well and lay it down so we can heat things up there It just opens it up and gives us a bit more heat too A lot more heat So these gammon steaks are about the size of our faces But we'll be eating them I'm just heating that carbonara up on that stone now That's hot enough to make it bubble Just going to do these slowly and brown them off again as normal That there's got a hot rock underneath it We've just been rotating it around So it gets heated all the way through By the time we want to eat it Yeah Looking forward to these giant face-sized gammon steaks Look at them Divine Here we go Gammon and spaghetti carbonara And the jam roly-poly is still sitting on the rock Heating is complete That's my custard Just heating it up nice and slowly on the embers Not much longer There it is Roly-poly pudding with custard Oh yeah we're having a bonfire before bed Just burn the last of our wood Wait until it's ablaze it'll be epic Look at that Blazing fire That's what you need this time of year In my hammock again Second night And we'll catch you all in the morning I had to put my wool blanket on me in the night Just a little bit nippy from the top wind Tim has his percolator going for some morning coffee for himself So I'm going to do the same Not with a percolator though Thunder quilts are amazing I'm dry again Just so much better than a roll mat My tarp collected rain in the middle of the night There was a big old bubble in the middle It was like pushing down on us But I just kicked it and it rippled out of the way and went on to Tim's set So all good It doesn't take long You can see it's getting quite muddy out there now Some terrible wind and rain The wind is strong So I am sipping my coffee in my hammock I'm just going to have five (minutes) before I start packing up because we have to head back I've enjoyed this camp I've definitely enjoyed the underquilt the most And yes I don't think I'll be going back to a roll mat with an underquilt in a hammock The hammock gets a better chance to move into the natural shape of your body And to hang the way it's meant to hang without the roll mat trying to change that So it gives you extra comfort And with the underquilt it's amazing Surprised I'm going to tweak it a little Put some elastic on it and make it hang a little better on this hammock I think Just on the back end when I'm inside it Because I'd dangle my legs out and everything So yes I'll hit you on the tripod and maybe catch some of the packing up And I'm on my feet The fire is completely gone anyway Oh dude there are still hot ashes Now after all that rain That is excellent Awesome Like a number of these rocks cracked last night because of the heat And that one there that were cooking on Oh man I can't believe after that rain Considering there was like maybe two pints of water on top of my tarp It was just like a massive bubble Just like here In the center of my hammock So you the smart one you You set your angle at the right tarp The tarp at the right angle I can't believe there's still a roof after all that rain That was pouring at some point I expected to be completely soaked Me too Mind there was a good three feet of ashes on it It was huge I can't believe it even That's me all packed up now Ready to go Tim is the same Thereabouts All packed up Look at that That is our fire pit I can see the channel coming in Good job we didn't camp there Epic It's close now
