Hey guys, Sean with American Window Concepts.
And today I'm gonna answer a question.
How much does it cost to put in a new window?
Let's get into that.
Well, that depends on a lot of different things.
If we're doing a retro style replacement,
answer is gonna be,
you're gonna pay a lot less that way
than if you were to do a full tear out.
So let's differentiate a little bit.
One, so let's just say you have a house built
in the 70s or 80s and you have single pane aluminum windows
and you've opted to do a vinyl retro style replacement.
You buy the window and now we're factoring
in how much is it gonna cost to have them installed?
So what is the labor?
So we got to factor in,
how many windows are you actually doing?
If you're doing one window,
let's just say for the sake of argument,
you wanna do one window.
How much is it going to be?
A lot of times people get stumped by this
because they'll see the price of the window
and then they'll see the price of the labor
and they'll go, whoa,
like it's almost more for the labor
than it is for the window itself.
And yeah, you're probably right.
The reason why is because we have to take a truck
out of service and send it to your house.
A couple of guys who are already gonna be installing
that window for you and labor everything,
the caulking, trimming, everything for one window.
You're gonna end up paying 800 bucks for the labor
just for that one window.
And your window only costs 380, 420, something like that.
But here's the thing.
If I'm gonna stay in business to do one window,
it's gonna be like that.
It's gonna be way more expensive on the labor side
than it is the window side.
Let's say you're doing 10 windows.
All of a sudden, this is gonna flip-flop.
The cost of your windows is gonna continue to increase
because you have different size windows,
anywhere between 400 to 800, $900 per window.
Then you have your labor.
All of a sudden, the windows are gonna cost you
five, $6,000 after everything is said and done.
And the labor all of a sudden is 3,000.
Actually a drop in the labor cost
costing more for the windows now.
That's the better way to do it
because you're getting more for your labor costs.
It starts to make more sense
for the person buying the windows to do it like that.
Then you have other situations.
Let's say full tear out.
We just did a job this week,
pulling all the wood on the outside of the house
and then redo all the outside wood.
We're talking way more now.
Now, each window for labor
is going to be somewhere around 800 bucks, 700, 800 bucks.
You're talking way more labor.
It's taking a lot longer to install each window
because we're doing a full tear out.
That will turn off a lot of customers
when they see how much more expensive it is
to install full tear out.
All of a sudden, this retro style window
becomes more appealing, doesn't it?
Because your labor is so much less
and your time to actually get the windows installed
is so quick and done right, the same performance.
You're not having to worry about leaks or anything else.
Let's talk about maybe a wood style of window.
The window cost is gonna be expensive,
right out of the gate.
Let's just get that out there.
Then the next thing is going to be the installation.
So with that style of installation,
it's a full tear out every single time.
There is no such thing
as a retro style replacement window for wood.
You're just not gonna see it.
And if you do, I'd be leery.
I would definitely say the price of the window
and the price of the install is gonna be pretty close.
You're getting what you pay for.
It's an elegant style of window system.
It's natural wood.
They just cost more.
It's more to fabricate the windows.
It's more to put the parts and components on those windows.
So you're gonna be paying a lot of money for that.
The last thing, new construction.
So that is going to be the most simplistic style of install.
It's going to be the easiest to install
and it's going to be easy on
or low priced on the labor itself.
So whenever you're dealing with something like that,
the price on your labor is probably gonna be really low
in comparison to the window cost.
Hopefully this video helps.
