Chris Bassett brings a 20 inning
scoreless streak to the mound
tonight but facing a team
swinging the bats well hitting
for a lot of power right now.
Chris Bassett is on some hot run
right now and this will be his
ninth start of the season over
his last seven starts the
opponents of it just one thirty
eight against him and for the
second night in a row Gleyber
Torres is the leadoff man for
the Yankees.
Here's a bouncing ball to short
nice big hop for Boba Shett one
down.
So now Aaron Judge who hit two
home runs on Monday night hit
one last night two of the three
have gone into the West Jet
flight deck and straightaway
center field a two to strike
three on the outside corner.
Judge thought that pitch was a
little bit out.
He might have been right.
We have seen Chris Bassett and
his command when he's got the
command working and this is a
four seam fastball that just
finds the outside corner.
Here's Anthony Rizzo Bassett
ready the O2 swing and a miss
got him with a high fastball and
a one two three top of the first
turned in for Chris Bassett.
The Blue Jays head to the dish
Garrett Cole the ace of the
staff is going to face that
lineup and it's been a great
start to his year.
So be his tenth game started
just four home runs given up
eighteen walks against sixty
two case and now George Springer
in the Blue Jays meet Garrett
Cole power right hander rocks
and fires the first pitch and
it's hit hard to the shortstop
backhanded by Cabrera on the
first a high throw Springer
crosses and he's safe.
And it was a throw that Springer
hustling out of the box put a
little pressure.
You see Cabrera took a little
bit of time and he airmails the
first baseman.
So a baserunner one pitch into
the bottom of the first.
And here's Bo Bichette as a
bouncer off the glove of Cole
Rizzo the flip drop by Cole.
But he is safe.
That's about as difficult of a
play as you can have for a
pitcher.
You just got to do everything
you can to take advantage of
these two errors here in the
first day.
Right.
One one swing and a pop up
writes out of the infield.
In fact now moving toward the
left LeMahieu coming down from
third he'll make the catch in
front of the mound swing and a
miss right page to right page
right pitch two on two out.
Here's Brandon Belt lefty Pat
and the pitch swing and a miss
ninety nine.
Blows it by Belt so he pitches
around the defensive miscues to
up and to set aside those score
inning number two Harrison Bader
the batter one Oh swing and a
bouncer toward third and it goes
off the glove of Chapman.
He backed up on it and it rolls
into left field.
So some spotty defense all
around here in the first two
innings.
So here's Willie Calhoun run a
ghost pitches high throw it a
second stolen base for Bader
three twos outside its ball for
and take your chances with
Trevino the catcher.
But he had three hits in the
game last night and he got a
fastball on the outside corner
for strike three called he's
come away with no runs on a hit
they leave to move on to the
bottom of the second when
Merrifield will lead it off
against Garrett Cole and Cole's
first pitch is cracked in the
air center field racing on
Bauer Bader and he dives and he
tumbles and he makes the grab
Harrison Bader once again coming
up huge on a low liner off the
bat of Whit Merrifield there's
one away here's Alejandro Kirk
out of the line Cole in the one
swing in a line drive up the
left field line that's a base
hit rippling into the corner
kicks off the retaining wall
Bowers will have to dig it out
of the corner Kirk wants to go
to second and he's in there
runner at second here's Danny
Jansen checks now to the plate
swing and a miss strike three
fastball at ninety eight and
that is the third strikeout
victim for Garrett Cole tonight
Santiago Espinel bats for the
first time tonight swing and a
miss slider is not too bad.
So that is four strikeouts for
Cole back to back strikeouts
here in the third inning.
Aaron Judge public enemy number
one ground ball up the middle
and through for base hit two out
single for Judge and that was an
earned hit Rizzo retired the
side put away.
Now the Blue Jays are making a
little noise.
Blue Jays have loaded the bases.
Hopefully the board right here
at Roger Center changes quickly
when Merrifield the batter
against Garrett Cole 0 1 popped
him up right side foul territory
Rizzo venturing over near the
side warning track he'll make
the catch in foul ground.
So when Merrifield pops out he
leaves the bases loaded and
Garrett Cole and the Yankees are
out of the third inning.
He's got a single to start off
this fifth inning.
Jose Trevino the batter swing at
a high fly ball left center
field for our show going back
stepping onto the track makes the
catch back at first and tagging
Calhoun races towards second a
deep fly ball enough to advance
Calhoun 90 feet.
Marcio did a good job racing
back to his right handling that
ball on the fly.
Cabrera at the plate runner at
second one out Cabrera swings
and tips it off into the glove
held by Kirk to down Pichet
Torres swing at a line drive
caught by Belt at first base
position perfectly Torres place
Pepper with Belt.
He handles it on the line side
retired to down to down here's
Bowers Brown ball over to the
right side shuffling over to his
left picked up by Espinel lays
it to first hours retired.
So the Yankees hit batsman
nothing more five and a half
gone by still scoreless in
downtown Toronto one down
runner back at first base.
So now Alejandro Kirk will come
up up the middle.
That's a base hit Belt will stop
up at second and the Blue Jays
have two men on with one out.
And there's a number of the Blue
Jays need to change Joe for six
with runners in scoring position.
That's why they've left seven
men on the first five tonight.
Somebody's got to come up with a
big hit two on with one out for
Danny Jansen.
He's take another ground ball
and they got it.
There's one and there's two six
shutout innings for Garrett Cole
a pitcher's duel.
Indeed Cole and Bassitt have
hooked up and put zeros on the
board.
Chris Bassitt ready to work you
down to two broken bat looper
over towards first grab by Belt
the baseline drop by Belt
picked up by Bassitt reaches for
the base runner and they got him.
Wow what a play.
And then as he reaches down
picks up the baseball with his
glove hand and Nick's the hip of
Trevino.
Well Garrett Cole is back out
there.
We'll see if he goes batter to
batter as we start the bottom of
the seven Blue Jays have back to
back singles off of Cole.
And here comes Aaron.
That will be all the new pitcher
is Clay Holmes Espinosa second
Springer at first scoreless game
bottom seven two away and a one
one swing and a roller torch
shortstop charging in Cabrera
he'll throw on the run to first
and it's in time and Clay Holmes
gets all three batters he faces
out of the bullpen and strands
two runners two away.
But now the winning run is 90
feet away.
And here is Kevin Pizio and
scoreless game bottom nine.
The pitch popped in the air
shallow center field Bader's
under it.
He's camping.
Now he comes in a step and he
makes the two handed grab and we
are off to extras north of the
border.
I think if you're the Blue Jays
this might be the perfect guy to
have at the plate up the middle
and it's first and third with
nobody out.
Now with one out Danny Jansen
trying to be the hero.
Danny Jansen with his second
game winner of the season and
an absolute no doubter as the
Blue Jays pick up a badly
needed win.
