The season has been overall a struggle for both Sevilla and Roma. In fact, since winning the
semi-finals, neither team has picked up a victory in league play.
And Jesus Navas, who won his first European trophy with Sevilla 17 years ago.
Dybala is the world-class talent for Roma. Him and Pellegrini will take turns.
The ball rolls and Budapest. It is the Europa League final.
Will Sevilla have never lost one of these?
Spinazzola with time to consider his options.
Switch for Paolo Dybala. Stretching the defense wide.
And taking on Alex Tellez. Slipped through. Pulled back for Spinazzola.
Was the first real question asked and Bono responded.
Up on his right. What a brilliant little slip through ball that is.
Then that instinctive switch over to this near side. Spinazzola
had all the time of the world here just to measure up. Hits it first time but.
Especially in the final third. Nasser was clocked as the fastest player at that tournament too.
By Matic. It's Matic who's whistling for the foul.
Even if you are a fan of the rival club of one of these two teams in La Liga or
Serie A, there's plenty of rooting interest. First yellow of the match.
Mancini. Says lovely ball. What a ball! Dybala!
Look at this ball. Mancini picks it up. And it's just a perfect through ball as Dybala's
making the run in between the two severe defenders. One quick look. Perfect weight on that ball.
He needs a half look at goal. And with Klaas' left foot. He has just the slightest half step
on Lloyd Bade. Takes a look up. And just slots it with power to that back post.
What a pass by the center back Mancini. And it's the kind of delivery.
And it's the kind of ability that Dybala has.
What's going on here? Oh, it's Mancini. What a surprise. And Roma would be keeping Mancini
away from the referee or from any Sevilla players for that matter. Still a lot of football to be
played here. Of major European competitions. Roma win this. Roma move past Giovanni Trapattoni
into sole possession. What a record as this bounces through into the hands of Rui Patricio.
He couldn't get it down. It's Dybala who slips through for Pellegrini to the legs of Rakitic
Abraham. The whistle's gone the other way. A foul against Roma. And for Pellegrini for simulation.
There's Lucas Ocampos laying it off for Torres. Oliver Torres. Now Rakitic. Rakitic.
Rear post. Then surely there's going to be one chance to shoot on distance. And who other than
Ivan Rakitic and that brilliant striking ability that he possesses. Look at how it catches this
one. There's hardly any spin on the ball. It's hit dead on. No curve. It's a missile that was
headed right into that bottom corner. Had it just been about an inch or so off to the left,
Patricio would have been beaten as well. And how close did that come to Rick?
Here by Mancini. Here's Goodell. He's done a bit of everything. This is why they signed him.
This is why they lured him to the Italian capital. And today he's paying it all back.
Mancini. Got a little carried away. Sousa. Was pulled back by Mancini right in front of Taylor.
And that will produce the yellow.
Into stride. And oh, Xelez couldn't keep his shot under the bar. Rakitic collects from Lavenda.
Navas out wide against Spinazzola. Fires it in near post. And ricochets in. Sevilla have
level in front of Rui Patricio's goal. And euphoria for the Spaniards. Now take a look
at this. The ball finally does go to this right hand side. And it's a great cross there by Jesus
Navas. Little touch off to the outside. Creates a millimeter of space against Spinazzola. And
that's taking all sorts of bounces. It's off of Mancini. Gets the final touch off of his knee.
And it's an own goal. And this goal, Nico. First time and last time that anyone scored against
a Mourinho team in the final. Henrik Larsson in 2003. Just to give you an idea. Collapsed on by
three Roma defenders and dispossessed. And Zelic is fouled. Three touches and the opposition's 18.
But has now fired off a shot. Constante was booked. For Mancini and Pellegrini.
Was that for dissent? Rakitic. For a repeated offensive dissent?
Dangerous is that Rakitic foul. Look now. Once again on set pieces. The deliveries are perfect.
What a ball sent in by Pellegrini. And it's Abraham with a second attempt. Just trying to
get it under the legs of Bonu. Makes himself as wide as possible. Look at
Tim Abraham there. He's hitting with the side of his foot. It's not clean contact.
But Bono just makes himself big enough to get any sort of touch. That is all about the quality
of the delivery. Causing all sorts of havoc. Might have caught a knee from Smalling there.
Bono. And then a bit of a snapshot from Ibanez. Nowhere near. Losing a doorstep.
O-lane scramble. It leads to nothing. It's the other number seven on the ball now. Suso.
Alex Tellez commits the foul. And the shellac will be booked. Fifth yellow card. The Roma players.
He's yet to score in Serie A for Roma. That's remarkable, isn't it? Once upon a time. Wasn't
too far away from scoring 30 in a season. Ocampos forcing the issue. And he's got it through. It's
Lucas Ocampos. Who goes down. Di Perseveria. And it did seem like Ocampos did get caught from behind
right here. Oh yeah. It seems like he does get tripped up. And this is a player that we
highlighted. Ibanez. He's been inconsistent this calendar year. And right there. It just reaches
across. And he's far from the ball. After Ocampos goes through. And look at that right.
Anthony Taylor at the monitor. Stored out well. I mean right there. On the shin.
Yep. Just look at the way that Ocampos' right leg.
Well it was a short look from Anthony Taylor. Whatever he decides. He is absolutely convinced.
And there is no penalty. Now this referee has really been put through the fire in the last
five minutes. Slipped it in by Pellegrini. Belotti. Goodness. Close from Gallo Belotti.
The Sevilla player taken quickly here. Surprising the entire back line. Was there a touch on Bono?
That's what Belotti's saying. There was. The slightest graze on the glove of Bono. Was that
enough to keep it out? Look at this. Oh he catches it with a pinky. And I think that was what kept it
out. Suso. Behind Suso. Looking for Lamela. And Naziri. The glancing header is over. Suso.
Head full of steam from Suso. It's spilled by Rui Patricio. And Naziri laying it off. It's
Lamela on his left. Blocked by Matic. Fernando. And it flashes well wide for the Brazilian.
Must have stopped for two or three seconds. Well Sevilla's president Pippa Castro said that for
them it's like a religion this Europa League. Rolls on the first period of extra time. Opened
the scoring in the first half. Mancini's own goal leveled it. It's one apiece. Red kick.
And so much of the creative responsibility is now at the feet of
El-Sharawy. Romar playing with four center backs at the moment. El-Sharawy's gonna line up on that
left side where he likes to cut in on his right. But he's really gonna be right alongside Belotti
who's more that natural target man up top. Suso. Against Wijnaldum. Counted 18. Belotti.
With the outs. Here who fights every ball to the death. It's laid off. Ocampo streaking it to the
area. Let's pull it back for Naziri. Intercept. Lifted in by Suso. Attacked by Naziri. On the
bounce. Collected. And so too is Goodell. Now Llorente goes down. And it's giving us another
Roma free kick. Just over half of the six minutes have gone. Ibanez is going to come out of this
looking like he just went five rounds in MMA. Zalewski. Lifted into the six. It's punched away
by Bono. Confidently done. Yes. Has won another free kick. Was lured into the contact. Look at
that back post. That's where Chris Smalling is. Belotti's. Zalewski. Overcooked it this time.
Smalling back across the green. Off the top of the crossbar. And touchdown. Oh my goodness.
There will be penalties to decide the Europa League champion. And for the moment we go to
studio with Papi Miller. It's one in the air by Bolvi. Campos. Opaulo Di Bala broke the deadlock
in the 34th minute. Assisted by Mancini. Buries it with his hands in his pockets.
Distante against Bono. And he scores. Bono got a hand onto it. He and Suso change the game for Sevilla.
And he sneaks it into the bottom corner. And he's denied. Struck centrally.
And Bono has kept it out. Mancini. A center mid and a center back. Shooting one and two
for Roma. And the trailing leg by the Moroccan goalkeeper deflects it and out.
And the adopted son of Sevilla converts. Advantage to the Andalusians.
Bono's telling him where to go. To his right. And Bono. He got it. It's Montiel from the spot.
Patricio responds to keep Roma in it. The penalty was reviewed and it's been ordered as a retake.
Encroachment. Possibility. Montiel take two. And this one buries it. Built on Opaulo League trophies.
And Sevilla have another. And it was because of the redo that Montiel got a second chance. This
time he goes the other way. He went off to his right. That was saved by Patricio. But VAR saw
the encroachment. Allowed the redo. And it's a penalty that's worth another major European trophy.
The first from Indy Liban at this stage. No clinching penalties. And just look at this
celebration for Sevilla. It's their competition and it's their trophy once again. Seven out of
seven finals in the Europa League. This is their tournament. There's a feeling.
There's a certain touch that they have when they show up to the stage. And Montiel just like he did
six months ago. Hit the winning penalty kick in the shootout for Argentina. And is now the hero again
against Roma for Sevilla. Unbelievable scenes as the fans stormed the field.
This is their tournament. Europa League is synonymous with Sevilla Football Club. And
agonizing from a Roma perspective. The players in tears on the ground. And it was because of the
redo that Montiel got a second chance. This time he goes the other way. He went off to his right.
That was saved by Patricio. But VAR saw the encroachment. Allowed the redo. And it's a
penalty that's worth another major European trophy. The first from Indy Liban at this stage.
And it's also worth a ticket to the Champions League for next season.
It bears reiterating. Sevilla were fighting relegation when Mendy Liban took over just
10 weeks ago. Two points above the drop line. He steered them to safety. He steered them
to European glory. Through three managers. Julio Lopetegui, Jorge Sampaoli. They couldn't get the
job done. Experienced managers. And Mendy Liban, who's 20 plus year career. Where he's been floating
in the lower tiers of the Spanish top flight. With teams that don't even come close to how
great Sevilla are. He was given the opportunity of his life. Sorry Nico, but questions here when
you see the tears flowing from the Roma players. As you mentioned, the penalty order. The center
backs going first. We did not see Stefano Sciarra. We did not see the attackers go on and take a
penalty. Very interesting. It does not pay off in the end. It was Paulo Dybala, five. He was no
longer on the pitch. And after that it was Cristante and Belotti. Cristante went first.
As they etched Sevilla's name onto yet another Europa League trophy.
He was there in Eindhoven. It's his fourth Europa League. This is the moment. Improbable as it may
have seemed just 10 weeks back. After 147 minutes of football played. Sevilla and the Europa League.
A 17 year love affair. From Eindhoven to Glasgow. Three in a row in Turin, Warsaw and Basel.
Through Cologne and now Budapest on the list. It is seventh heaven for Sevilla.
Collective achievement and of course they're gonna have a hard time taking
that trophy away from Jesus Navas right in the center of your picture.
