Pardon The Interruption's Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon join SportsCenter to discuss the Miami Heat's response to their Game 1 loss with a 15-point comeback victory to take Game 2 and how it affects the series here on out.
Hell back to the NBA finals where the Heat had a big fourth quarter and they
shocked the Nuggets at home to even the series at one apiece as it shifts to
Miami. Duncan Robinson's 10 fourth quarter points played a big role in
erasing an eight-point deficit in Denver. Nick Friedale has more with the Heat.
The confidence in that Heat locker room is high. I asked Jimmy Butler why is this team
so resilient. He said it's the I don't give a damn factor. We don't care about
what's happening on the outside. We focus on what we can control and we feel
like we're always gonna find a way. Gabe Vincent said we are strangely
comfortable late in games. When things are close we know that we will be able
to figure it out. Now is the Heat look ahead to game three on Wednesday. They do
so hoping the Tyler Hero will be back after missing almost the entirety of the
postseason because of a broken hand. If they get that boost on top of what they
did in game two they feel like they're gonna walk in and find a way to take the
lead in this series. Nick thank you. They're just so calm in the fourth. The
Heat have been outscored by 24 points over the first three quarters of this
postseason but how about this there are plus 90 in the fourth quarter that's
currently the third best fourth quarter point differential in a single playoff
in NBA history. Tony and Mike have much more in tonight's PTI bonus topic.
All right Wilbon should the Denver Nuggets still be favored to win the NBA
Finals? Ah Tony favored that sounds like your account that's Vegas odds and all
that junk where people change their minds on who's favored from day to day.
Um in my mind should the Nuggets still win the NBA Finals? I think so but Tony
yesterday clouds it not just because Miami won but because of the way Miami
won. And it's interesting because Michael Malone had a fit on his team after the
game and you and I have already talked about how we wonder about the response
to that which will tell us a lot about the Nuggets because they haven't been in
this position before this late in the playoffs their first finals. But I'm
gonna tell you this Tony I said on camera on air that I thought Miami was
gonna win yesterday they won. I think Miami's gonna win game three. I wonder
I'm not saying they are I wonder if Miami's in Denver's head a little bit
because Miami's toughness like a fighter that gets hit right on the chin and they
stay there and they look at you and they shake their head and they go I'm still
here I'm not even taking a standing eight. That's what I think of Miami at
this point and I wonder how that's gonna play when this thing moves to Florida
for Wednesday's game three. Yeah so I think I'll answer the direct question I
think Denver should still be favored. They won game one comfortably. They were
up 15 in game two and they let that slip away because Miami shot if I'm not
mistaken 69% in the fourth quarter and that's gonna win you basketball game. Yes
it is. I'm gonna concentrate on what you just brought up Michael Malone. He ripped
his team. He ripped his team publicly. Now I assume you know that's lack of effort
in game two. I assume he knows his team. We're gonna find out in game three if
they come out crazed and play a great game then we're gonna know what Michael
Malone did from a strategic standpoint made a lot of sense and if they don't
and Miami beats them in game three then I would worry about game four for Denver
because I would think that maybe maybe their coach had done them no favors by
being public and criticizing. These series often go back and forth back and forth and
Tony looking at that a lot of people including the oddsmakers might think
okay Denver's gonna respond favorably to what their coach did. Yes that's right. I
ain't so sure Tony. I just I want to I want to see if Miami is ready to
continue that scrappiness that is now known as heat culture. Let's see what
they got. Game three should be fun. That's it. We're done. Back to you.
