Man City to take on Inter Milan in European Champions League final

Manchester City take on Inter Milan at the European Champions League final tonight at the Ataturk Stadium in Istanbul. The current champions of England will be hoping to avenge their 20-21 final loss to Chelsea and take home European football's top honour. Rob Harris filed this report earlier. What a huge moment this is for Manchester City. It's their second Champions League final. They lost their previous ones. They're chasing European glory at the top level for the first time and it would complete an incredible treble of trophies this season. Only one team has done that before in England, Manchester United in 1999. They're great rivals but 1999 is also a very significant year for City. It's the year they were in the third division but got promoted. The real start of the ascendancy turbocharged by Abu Dhabi investment 15 years ago and now here they are in the Champions League final and I'm joined now by a fan who's been on that journey, who's come over from Manchester to Istanbul. Marie's with me here in Taksim Square. What's it been like being a Manchester City fan all these years, the highs, the lows and unimaginable shortly being a Champions League final? Yeah well to be honest just looking, thinking where we are today and where we came from in 1999, 24 years ago. It's just unbelievable the way the club have turned this, you know, this club around. Pep is unbelievable. The players are just out of this world and I am so proud to be here today, I can't even tell you. City fans do talk about a typical city where things might not go right but you think this is your year, you can finally get the European Cup? Well you know, City fans will not say it but I really think today's the day. I think we can do it. And is this about matching United? You've overshadowed them. We don't care about United anymore. We've got our own legacy, we've got our own trophies, you know, we don't care about United. And you'll always have a lot of critics, you see them as envious, they talk about the money that's built the squad. Yeah, there's a lot of envy around but it's just jealousy isn't it, I think. And what about Erling Haaland, 52 goals this season, what a sensation has been? I cannot believe what he has done. I didn't really think he was going to fit into the team if I'm completely honest and well it's just unbelievable what he's done isn't it and it's not just knocking the goals in, he's actually playing the game, you know, he's even got some new skills since he's joined City. It's amazing. Well enjoy the game tonight, your trip to the Ataturk Stadium facing Inter Milan in the Champions League final.
