Snapping spaghetti and other type of long pasta like linguine seems nothing special to most people outside of Italy.
But: it's one of those things that makes Italians upset right away.
Why? Watch the video and find out.

Let's talk about pasta. These are linguine, a long shaped pasta. Be it spaghetti, tagliatelle,
pappardelle. There are some issues when it comes cooking long pasta. One thing that you do not want
to do with Italians is to snap long pasta in half. Can you do it? Yes. Should you do it? No.
And why is that? Well, there are several reasons. The first reason is that pasta has been made this
way. So there is a reason behind it. So if you do it, you're giving Italians the impression that
you're a kid. For kids, yes, it's okay. It's easy to use your fork and to take the pasta and to eat
it. You don't slurp or at least not that much. You don't make a mess with the tomato sauce,
whatever. But again, this is for kids. There are people, chefs as well, I read that they consider
snapping pasta a sign of bad luck. And you don't want bad luck, right? Then consider that pasta
traditionally was made by hand, by people, not machines. So it was taking people a lot of effort
and time. If you cut it in half, you're not really being respectful of other people's work.
But the main thing, at least for me, you're supposed to use the fork to twirl it and to
eat it. This is the main issue. Pasta is supposed to be so long because you should use your fork
to twirl it and then to eat it without making a mess. It's kind of the difference between being
a kid and being an adult who can function in society.
