Hi, we're Jordana and Grant from Shot in the Dark Travel.
Come join us on our epic adventures around Southeast Asia.
Ban Nga Hills in Da Nang is one of the most famous tourist attractions in all of Vietnam.
It is absolutely iconic, but does it live up to the hype?
Watch this video to see if we think it's worth going to.
We are on our way to Ban Nga Hills. It's super early in the morning.
Our very courteous neighbours decided to have their alarm on for an hour and a half
before our alarm went off at like 5.30 or something ridiculous.
I think they've had one too many and can't get up themselves.
So yeah, we've not got up on the best mood this morning, but hopefully that will all change.
So yeah, room 702. If you're watching, nobody wants to hear alarm for an hour and a half,
solid, starting at 5.30 in the morning, super inconsiderate.
At first, I was like, maybe they're dead. How can they not hear this alarm that we can hear
in our room and everyone else can hear because everyone's banging?
And every time I rang on the doorbell, they turned it off and they told me to go away when I was
trying to tell them they're rude and to be quiet. So they're definitely alive.
They just keep having their alarm on super loud and don't care what anyone thinks.
But not going to let everyone hear because we're off to Ban Nga Hills and we're super excited.
So as you can see, we've just got here and wow, is it busy already?
It is 8.05. It opens at 8.00, so I'm quite shocked at how busy it is and how many people are here
already. And it's just started raining as well, so it's going to be an interesting morning.
Yeah, we've left this till our last day in Da Nang and we had to come no matter what the weather was
like because we had no more days left. And I would just say, if you come in here, come on,
maybe the plans come on the first or second day and if the weather's bad, you can push it back.
It's our last day, we can't push it back and it's very, very foggy. So if it's foggy at ground level,
God knows what it's going to be like at the top of a mountain. So I'm just hoping we can see anything.
You got a drone?
They've got a screen at the ticket office showing you what it's like at the top
and it looks like the views aren't going to be good,
but it looks like at least it's a bit of visibility. It's not too bad.
So entrance to the park is 850,000 dong per person.
Swinging around. Yeah, the gondolas swing quite a bit. So entrance is 850,000 dong per person,
which includes the gondola to the top, entrance to the golden bridge and there's quite a lot of
other things to see and do there. So there's a few roller coasters, a few rides. It's like,
I think it's sort of a theme park. So yeah, we're going up on the gondola now.
We've just set off and it's so foggy, you can't see a thing already.
So I think we've picked a bad day for this. I don't know why, I prefer the fact that I can't
see everything or that I can't see anything. Yeah, I'm not sure. I don't know why we keep
doing this every time. We're always on a bloody gondola. I don't know why we do it.
I feel like South East Asia loves a cable car, don't they? We just seem to spend all our time
on cable cars. And I don't know why, because it's not fun. Well, you have to get ice, but...
We've just got off the gondola. It was maybe like a 10 or 15 minute ride.
I'm sure when it's not foggy as hell, it's probably really fun to look at the views,
but we didn't really have much of a view. It was pretty smooth though. There was a lot less
screaming from Jordana than there usually is when we're on these sort of gondolas. You normally hear
it. See, that wasn't too bad. And we're just going out onto the bridge now. We've just got here.
It looks pretty busy, to be fair. Even though we got here right at the start of the day,
all you can see is just fog and people. If you're thinking that you can get here,
bang on eight o'clock, as soon as it opens and skip the queues, you are going to be sadly
disappointed. Judging by today, the weather's not great, so I thought it might be a bit quieter,
but it's still very, very busy. I'm sure it's a lot more magical here when you can
see all the way down to Da Nang, but sadly, we just can't see anything.
When we were looking at the map that had the main attractions on, it listed the hills,
it listed the rides, the hotel. It didn't list the main attraction. The main attraction seems
to be selfie opportunity with Jordana. It's so weird. I get it often anyway,
but literally I can't walk like two meters. I like someone wants a picture with me. It's really
weird. I think we've been in five minutes and you've maybe done about 15 photo shoots with
different groups of people who all want a photo with you. Some of them want one with me, but it's
mostly you, isn't it? Cue montage of me having pictures with other people.
So we are just heading over to look at some of the nice flower gardens. Before we get there,
what did you think of the Golden Bridge? Yeah, it was all right. Would I rave about it? No.
I think I've done loads of things like that before. I was indifferent with it. It was all right.
This is very busy, isn't it? Because it's a very touristy place. Yeah, I think when you see the
photos that have been definitely taken on days where there are no tourists there or before it's
opened, it looks spectacular. And it was just so many tourists, you couldn't really get a photo
or move. And yeah, if you know what you're expecting, then you won't be disappointed. So
now you've seen it. Yeah, I'd say if you're in Da Nang, it'd be daft to not come. But for me,
I thought this was a reason to come to Da Nang. And I'd say it probably isn't a reason to come
to Da Nang if you weren't going anywhere. So we're just going to go into the maze and see
if we can work our way out. This is interesting. This is the first maze I've ever been in that
only has one way to go. So really amazed. It's a bit strange.
Is it lulling us into a false sense of security? Is it going to suddenly be tricky?
Maybe. To be fair, we're lost. Yeah, we are. We're literally going to go out in a sec.
Oh yeah, no. I think. I think we need to go this way. 100% we've got to go that way.
100% this way. Okay, so draw down that right quick. So we are lost. Told you, it's this way.
Yeah, to be fair, we followed the path for about two minutes thinking, what is this? This is a
path not a maze. And then we very quickly got lost at the next section. We spoke too soon.
Yeah, definitely spoke too soon. I don't know if you can really see that, but it's so pretty.
Wow, the fog is really letting us down. It just seems to be getting foggier and foggier.
I don't know if you can see behind us, but there's like some statues of like the characters
out of Monkey Magic. I don't know if anyone's watched that before, but I used to love that
when I was younger. And the Netflix series, that's pretty good as well. So yeah, a little
Monkey Magic. Brad's just like, oh my God, no one cares. I had to Google it because I thought she
was making it up. I was like, what's this joke on Monkey Magic that I've never ever heard? I've
seen an advert for, ever heard anyone mention. I thought she was making it up. Turns out it's real.
Monkey Magic, Monkey Magic.
So we've got another cable car to the main part of Barnard Hills, which is where
there is like a European style old-fashioned village. There's a French section, a German
section, and there's some rides. We've just, to be honest, we've spent about 10 minutes trying to
work out where to go. It's really hard to navigate and the maps are useless. We've just come to what
I think is Fantasyland, like an indoor little theme park thing that looks cool. So just going
to check this out and yeah, see who there is.
Lock and load. So guys, it's, the jury's in and I am the best gunslinger in town. I beat Gran
and he's crumbled under the pressure and he's so upset. Look at that face. That is a sore loser.
I am very upset to be fair. It was quite fun though. We went on the 5D ride.
On the 5D ride, we're basically riding this pretend horse and then shooting bad guys.
And I think I must have had a dodgy gun because like somehow Jordan got more bad guys than me
and I don't believe it was down to skill. It was good though. Much better than the 4D ride. It was,
I think, can only be summed up as a bit atrocious. Yeah. It was, yeah, not the best.
So skip the 4D, go to the 5D. Apparently the extra D makes all the difference.
Round two. Prepare to lose, Gran.
We finished in the fun fair. To be honest, it wasn't the best. If you don't go there,
you're not really missing much. We've got to the French village now and it looks really nice.
It's absolutely rammed though. I've never seen anyone so busy as this.
So we've just sat down just to get a drink and like a little snack because we were up pretty
early. We've not had any breakfast or anything. Anyway, so we've got ourselves a nice cold beer
and this is how Grant's poured his beer. What is that, Grant Sanderson? I was feeling lazy,
so I didn't really tilt the glass enough and I just shoved it all in and then I was like,
ah, I've made a mess of this. It's fine. It'll work its way. That's going to taste delightful.
Might be a bit flat. Absolute pro.
We are now at the French village bit. I can't remember what it's called,
but like the French theme-y place. We've got beer and we've got some pizza and it smells
and looks delicious. We've gone for the barbecue chicken pizza. It did come with cashew nuts,
which I think is very bizarre. Who wants cashew nuts on a pizza?
So I asked for no cashew nuts, but yeah, I'm going to try some.
And she's lost all the toppings like a numpty. Can you believe that just happened?
I felt like it looked like it was falling and then you just didn't stop it. I didn't see it fall.
It's very hot.
It's very hot. Is it good?
Something smells incredibly garlicky. Is that our pizza?
Yeah, there's loads of garlic in this. Really garlicky, but good. Good garlic.
Well, we are in the French village. That would make sense. Theming on point.
Making the right dog's dinner at this hour. Really good. You need to have some grub.
The pizza was very nice at the French restaurant and whilst we were having it,
the funniest thing and maybe just like the best thing of the highlight of today for me
has just happened. Jardana, do you want to explain what happened?
It was so funny. So we're just chowing down on his pizza. Grant's got pizza sauce all over his face
and this couple come over to us and were like, oh, we've been watching your YouTube channels.
And I was like, what? What? No. And they were like, yeah, oh my God, we love your YouTube
channel. And I was like, I never thought I'd like see the day that someone watches our YouTube
and like we bump into them and they're like, oh my God, we love it. Oh my God, we love you guys.
It was so, so sweet. So thank you for coming and saying hello. That
like meant the world to us. It was so, so nice. And as well, it was lovely just to hear how many
of our recommendations they've done and how many of the restaurants they've been to and really
liked. And yeah, it just like, yeah, really, really, really made our day. I'm repeating myself
because I don't know what to say. Really, really, really made our day. No, it did. So thank you for
that. And if anyone else is watching this and they see us, please do say hello because it really does
make our day.
We've just been on the Swing de Fantaise, which was very surprisingly fun. It was actually quite
fast. And we are now going to go for a beer in the beer hall. It was basically a sauna inside
there. It was super warm. So we're going to sit outside instead in the sun, maybe get a bit of a
tan and have a nice cold beer.
The French village looks really cool. I can see why if you're like an Asian person, you might not
get a chance to go to Europe. I can see why they like it. There's not loads to see and do.
We just had a bit of a walk around. It's mainly cafes and restaurants and bars. So we had a bit of
food, had a drink. I think it's time to head out. I think we've seen and done everything that
Varna Hills has to offer. The only thing we've missed is the big roller coaster that doesn't
run when it's misty. So we're going to have a look.
That's why I've got it on film. Because all of a sudden it's going to accelerate.
You ready love?
Oh my god. It's so bleeding fast. I know. It looks a lot better actually now.
No, there's the... Oh, I bet the coaster's going now. It is, I can see someone on it.
Oh, it's cleared up. Yeah. I literally can see someone on it.
We are currently sat in the middle of a cloud on the way down from Varna Hills.
What have you thought of it so far? I really enjoyed it. I did think it was fun.
It's expensive for what it is. And like Grant said earlier in the vlog before,
is I wouldn't come all the way to Danan just for this. Because if you get a cloudy day or you don't
have a lot of money, you might be disappointed. Whereas I enjoyed it. I kind of knew what to
expect. And it was kind of fun. But yeah, it just depends on what you want out of it.
I think Danan's beautiful anyway. So it was a kind of a little added plus basically.
But would I say it's the best thing to do in Danan? I probably wouldn't say it's the
best thing to do in Danan. Yeah, I completely agree. I think
we've had a fun day. It's been nice. I felt slightly underwhelmed because I thought this
was going to be like one of the big tourist destinations in Vietnam. And for me, it wasn't.
But it was still a nice day. We bumped into lots of lovely people that wanted to take pictures
with us, which was hilarious. And yeah, it's been nice. We've had some food, had some drinks.
And it's early doors, so we've not like missed out on the rest of our day. So we're going to,
well, we don't know what we're going to do, but yeah, we're going to finish this vlog here.
