The public health emergency for COVID-19 came to an end in May, but where do we stand with
the virus now?
TWICE News reporter Melissa Torres is working for you this morning with the latest COVID
guidelines from the CDC.
Good morning, Rich.
At the beginning of the pandemic, everyone was keeping up with how many days you needed
to isolate, if you felt sick, or even how many days you needed to actually stay home
if you ended up testing positive.
So what are the current recommendations from health officials?
Well, regardless of your vaccination status, you should isolate yourself from others when
And if you do test positive for the virus, the current guidelines suggest you stay home
for at least five days and isolate yourself from others.
You are typically most infectious during those first five days.
The CDC advises people to stay home and separate from others as much as possible, do not go
to places where you're unable to wear a mask, and if you do have to go out, you should wear
a high filtration mask or a high quality mask and you're asked to monitor your symptoms.
How long should you stay home if you do have COVID?
So if you do have COVID or if you're feeling sick, you should stay home for at least five
days and then you can end isolation after day five if you're fever free for 24 hours.
But if you're not improving, your advice to continue isolating yourself and contact your
primary care doctor.
So it's not over yet.
It's not over yet, unfortunately.
Exactly.
Thanks, Melissa.
