Bilal Griffin, the DUI, the driver in an OUI crash
from 2025 that killed three construction workers,
was back in court today to change his plea.
22 News reporter Nick Antonakis has
the results from Hamden Superior Court.
My husband will never come home.
He will never get another birthday, another holiday.
How do you plead?
Guilty.
A 180 in the case of Bilal Griffith.
Griffith. After originally pleading not guilty
to all seven charges filed against him in connection
to a 2025 crash that killed three construction workers,
Griffith changed his plea to guilty.
The three victims, 26-year-old Igor Costa of Marlborough,
48-year-old Ryan Almeida of Brockton,
and 57-year-old Raul Bohorquez of Brockton.
They were fixing damaged guardrails on I-91 when Griffith's
Jeep flew down exit 10A, hitting and killing all of them before the car
flipped over and ended up on its roof in the middle of the ramp.
After Griffith changed his plea to a guilty one,
loved ones of victims and the defendant himself came to the stands.
I'm here to make sure he is remembered for the life he lived
and the people he loved, not simply for the way he died.
Nothing that happens
in this courtroom can restore what was taken from us.
He knew what he was doing that day
because he was thinking about himself
and not the victims that were working.
Even Bedal's mother giving a statement.
Hopefully the situation that has happened through your experience,
you'll be able to help somebody else.
The judge said the official sentencing will happen on November 20th,
but told the court he plans to dish out 15 to 17 years in state prison
on the three manslaughter charges concurrent with one another.
And then 8 to 10 years for the three leaving
the scene of personal injury and death charges.
That term will also be concurrent to the other sentence.
Working for you, Nick Antonakis, 22 News.
