David Beckham says it's time for the Glazer family to sell Manchester United and admits
he'd love to be involved with any takeover. It's been eight months since the Glazers put
United up for sale and they've received several bids from Qatar and Sir Jim Ratcliffe. However,
it's unclear what the Glazer family intend to do if they are still considering these offers.
David Beckham spoke to David Ornstein of The Athletic about it.
The progress under Eric ten Haag, who he describes as being a breath of fresh air
and the key thing that many have picked up, such as the back page of the Daily Mirror.
He believes it's time for the Glazers to go. When I put that question to him,
he said, yeah, I think so. And he sort of attributed that to the fans. He says,
you've got to do what the fans want and the fans seem to want them to go en masse. And
if you don't listen to your fans, then it could lead to further problems,
which the Glazers have already seen. He wants a decision as soon as possible because there's
uncertainty. Are the Glazers actually going to go or are they staying? Will it be to Sheikh
Jassim's group or will it be to Jim Ratcliffe's? Will it be to one of the minority investors?
So little is known about this still at the moment. And David Beckham wants some clarity. He also said
that while he has not been approached by any of the parties, if there was an opportunity to be
involved in some form in Manchester United in the future, then it's something that he couldn't turn
down because he's such a fan of the club. And if nobody wants him there, then he'll continue to be
a fan of the club. Here's an extract of Beckham's quote from David Ornstein's article. Once you lose
the fans, especially at a club like Manchester United, it's hard to get them back. Obviously,
the Glazers have achieved a lot. And financially, the fact we're even talking about the numbers of
Manchester United will sell for shows the success they have had. But there needs to be change. We've
all seen that. We all know that. Any involvement with Manchester United would mean the world to me
going forward. But who knows? We'll see what happens in the next few weeks or months. Hopefully,
a decision gets made. And if I'm involved in any way, if not, I will be a United fan.
