So when you guys go to the grocery store,
and I know this happens to me too,
you go to the canned tomato aisle,
and it's pretty overwhelming.
There's a lot to choose from.
So I'm just gonna show you the things that I like,
and I like to use.
My absolute favorite for making tomato sauce
are these Italian cherry tomatoes.
They make for a much sweeter sauce,
and Jade loves it.
The only thing is, it's mostly for special occasions
because they're a little bit harder to find
and a little bit more expensive.
But if you find them, stock up on them
because they're fantastic.
Then, the one that I've always used
since I was a kid and my parents used
are the San Marzano whole tomatoes.
So they're just peeled, and it says whole peeled tomatoes.
And what we do in Italy is we basically
just make a sauce with them,
crush them either with our hands
before they go into the pan,
or we take scissors, my mom loved to take scissors,
and just cut up the tomatoes ourselves.
We like chunkier tomato sauces, so it works great.
But if you do wanna buy either chopped or pureed tomatoes,
then I usually will go for something
in a cardboard box like this or in glass.
Mutti is probably one of my absolute favorites.
The reason I do that is because you get less
of that metallic, tinny flavor in cardboard and in glass.
And when I buy canned tomatoes, I buy them unseasoned.
No garlic, no basil, no nothing in them.
That way, less preservatives in it.
And also, I like to control the seasoning myself.
So, there you have it.
Hopefully, that helps the next time
you're in the grocery store and buying canned tomatoes.
