But we start this lunchtime with the final day of the Saudi Pro League
transfer window. Will Liverpool face a test of their resolve when it
comes to keeping Mo Salah later today? Well, our chief reporter is
alongside me. Good to speak to you. The window shuts at ten o'clock
tonight. Where do we stand right now? I think it is getting too late
for Al Etahad to sign Mo Salah. The background to this is we know
last week, last Thursday, they made a verbal offer, £150 million.
That was rejected out of hand by Liverpool. And then Al Etahad were
weighing up whether to go back in with an improved offer. There have
been reports that they were preparing a bid, a world record bid,
worth up to £215 million. But that has not happened. Now, our
information over the weekend was that the people right at the top of
Al Etahad did want to make another offer, did want to try again.
But their advisers were telling them that, look, it's time to back off
now. You've got to respect Liverpool. Think about the optics of this as
well. Do you really want to make another offer and then miss out on
signing a player like Mo Salah? Let's keep relations with Liverpool as
good as possible. And let's revisit this sometime in the future. I've
also been told, and I know some people will find this hard to believe,
I don't know if I believe it myself, but I'm being told from a football
perspective, there were people at Al Etahad on the football side of the
operation who weren't convinced that they really needed Mo Salah at the
moment. They've spent big money on players like Karim Benzema, N'Golo
Kante, Fabinho. I think they felt that other parts of the squad and the
team needed strengthening. I'm not saying they didn't want Mo Salah,
but some people on the football side of the operation thought he wasn't
the priority signing at the moment. OK, so just to be clear, today we
don't expect to hear any more from Saudi in terms of another offer for
Mo Salah? I don't think Liverpool are not expecting to hear anything
from the Saudis, and I think if they did, they would get the same
answer. The player is not for sale. We know from Jurgen Klopp speaking on
Sunday after the game against Aston Villa, he was very clear that as far
as he was concerned, the player wanted to stay at Liverpool.
