Usually when we're performing all around the world,
the local organizers prepare really good food for us.
But we also love to explore the local foods by ourselves.
Yeah, that's where all the fun really happens.
And today's our day off.
So join us as we go get some more food
and also tell you our stories.
Let's go!
We wanted to eat and tell you guys our stories at the same time.
But what happened is, we're too distracted right now.
Okay, anyway, so we're going to eat first
and we'll tell you our stories later, alright?
Let's enjoy our meal first.
We just finished our meal and now we'll start our story.
Alright, so guys, I'm going to go first with my most memorable
food experience on...
Why do I look so fat?
Alright guys, so I'm going to start off with my first story.
And it's going to be in Venice.
So what happened was...
This story is boring right now, I'm bored.
It's too long.
Keep going though.
It's kind of long.
You can't just hurt my confidence like that
in the middle of the story like that.
I lost all my confidence.
I don't want to say the story anymore.
That's what happened to me.
Why are the others...
Sam is not confident, so I'll go first.
My most memorable place was in Italy, Genoa.
And then we had a day off.
We were about to go to a different restaurant.
But it was closed for the birthday party.
So yeah, and...
Yo, I'm dying, help me.
We found this restaurant on Yelp.
And then we went there and it was closed.
Because they had a birthday party there.
So we walked right beside it, down the street.
There was another restaurant.
It was kind of like a hole-in-the-wall place.
And then we go inside, not many people.
There was a grandpa in there.
He's like the owner.
The grandpa told us,
do you guys want to eat here?
It's kind of expensive.
It's mostly seafood.
And we're like...
They were like...
So confused, right?
Yeah, exactly.
So we had a lot of people,
about 13 people at the time.
And then half the group decided not to eat here, so...
So I took a group to leave.
He said it's expensive.
He's like, expensive.
Are you sure you want to eat here?
I was like...
Are you telling me to leave?
I'm going to leave.
Sam's group left,
but Jisung and I decided to stay there.
We sat down, and then a grandpa came up to us.
He didn't look too friendly, actually.
He was kind of a little bit stern.
But he told us like,
you know what?
I'll cut you guys a deal.
25 euros each,
and I'll bring out a catering-style meal for you guys.
And at the time, we thought,
this guy is scamming us for sure.
Usually, we like to eat a lot.
We wanted to have a very hearty meal,
and we're scared that he was going to not give us too much food.
But we decided to go for it,
and we did a little bit of bargaining.
And then we said,
can we get free drinks?
He kind of comes in there for a couple seconds,
and he's like...
And we also got dessert included.
And then he brought out a bunch of food.
He brought out like splatters of fried seafood,
and it was like calamari, shrimp, and fried fish.
So it was really interesting.
Never had something like that before, actually.
I think we got two main pastas.
It was like a truffle cream sauce pasta,
and a tomato-based pasta.
And Jisung's favourite was which one?
Truffle.
Alright, so if we go back to that city,
we have to go there again.
After that meal,
we went back to the hotel,
and we found Sam's group,
and we told them like,
that meal was so good,
you guys should've stayed.
Where did you guys go after though?
Here, there's a pizza restaurant.
Cheap restaurant.
Like one-money sign or something.
And then we went over there,
and there was pizza that was cold.
Cold pizza that was there.
And then what she did was,
she took the cold pizza out of this thing,
and she microwaved it for us.
So I was like...
Alright, Sam Poo, not rubbing it in,
but one more thing that I want to tell you.
While we're eating the meal,
like the old man came to check up on us,
and he saw we're like really happy eating,
and he's like,
okay, tell me what you guys like,
and I'll go back and make some more for you guys.
I was like, can we get a little bit more of truffle pasta?
He was like, sure.
And then he came up with another huge plate of 24 euros.
He got pasta, food, a drink, and dessert.
Yes.
And he got you extra truffle pasta.
Yeah.
25 euros.
Worth it.
So don't judge a book by its cover.
And if the owner tells you not to eat there,
you know you gotta eat there.
Yeah, let me tell you my story.
So we took a bus, we went into Venice,
and it was really beautiful.
And then as I was walking,
someone behind me was like,
Sam, Sam, Sam.
Why do you have brown stuff coming out of your butt?
Yo, that sounds disgusting.
Okay, so what was happening is,
I had a backpack on, right?
And inside the backpack, I had a coffee mug.
And the coffee mug was open.
So it had spilled all of the content in the backpack.
And I was walking around Venice,
and there was a trail of coffee coming out of my backpack.
So I couldn't enjoy any of the sights.
And finally, we stopped to get lunch.
So we walked around Venice, looking for food,
but we couldn't find anything.
We looked on Google to find some good food.
We found this place called Dal Moro.
It was called like, Fresh Pasta to Go.
It was very, very highly rated, like thousands of reviews.
So we're like, okay, you know what?
I'm willing to go for this place.
So we're walking around, and then Will was leading us.
And then he led us into a dark alley.
And then we're like, Will, are you sure it's this place?
He's like, no, trust me.
And we're like, oh my gosh, okay, just trust Will.
It took a long time to get there,
because we had to go through all these turns and twists
and across bridges and through alleyways.
But when we finally got there,
we were just a few feet away.
It was right down this one last dark alley.
I walked down the alley, and I looked back,
and nobody followed me.
Everybody just stood there.
I'm like, guys, it's right here.
They're like, no way, it's not there.
And I was like, trust me, guys,
it's on Google Maps right now.
I'm a decent navigator, it's right here.
And I walked down a few more steps,
and I'm at the restaurant, and I see it.
It's like a hole-in-one place as well,
like a very small place.
And then those guys don't believe me,
and I had to run up, like, guys, just come,
just trust me, it's right here.
And then when they finally walked down the street,
and they actually saw it was there, they believed me.
And then we went in, and it just opened, so no lines.
And we went in, and we're like, oh!
The pasta there is freshly made.
Like, you walk in, and you see all the pasta there.
And then they serve it in this little carton takeout box.
And it doesn't look that good,
but it was actually delicious.
You can choose what meats you want and what you want in it.
I got everything, all the meats.
I got chicken, I got bacon, I got ham.
And I ate it, and I was so satisfied.
And then right after we got the food we're eating,
a huge line started forming outside,
because this place is actually really popular.
Yeah, we got there right as the restaurant opened.
We were the first ones in, and it was a delicious meal.
We almost didn't get it.
If these guys, like, decided to turn back
and not follow me down that dark alley,
we wouldn't have gotten it.
Yeah, anyways, that was my best experience.
Let's go to the next place.
More than just a donut, mochi nut.
Let's go.
Delicious looking.
Ooh.
My turn to tell my story.
My most memorable story was in Mexico.
So I performed in Mexico, I think,
at least six or seven times.
So many years already.
My most memorable story was the last time
I performed in Mexico.
After every Shining performance,
we have to strike out at the theater.
We have to put all of our stuff into the truck.
So there's a team for that,
and Sam and I are both on that team.
Everyone else in the company already left
with the bus to go to the hotel.
So us two, we have, like, a special escort
to bring us back to the hotel.
So we're going with the driver back to the hotel,
and then it was already about, like,
it was pretty late, because in Mexico,
the performances start at, like, 8 or 8.30,
because people stay up late in Mexico.
In the States, it usually starts at 7.30.
Yep, so we had a very late show.
It was, like, probably around 12 a.m. already at that time.
And then we asked if there's any local food
that we could try.
The driver took us to a local taco place.
Tacos!
It was a Tacos Adventures, and then what happened was
the food there was so good,
and it was one of the most memorable,
because it was just very local feeling.
And I remember eating tacos.
You get the tortilla, and you grab the meat,
and you just, like, grab it directly with the tortilla.
Add some onions, add some cilantro, add some salsa.
One of the best tacos I had.
We actually recorded the whole thing,
and we made a little vlog, actually.
Yeah, we actually made a little vlog
so we can show you a little bit of that footage.
Yeah, okay, good story.
Okay, we're gonna move to our next location now.
Let's go.
Okay, so we're moving on with our stories.
I also wanna tell some stories which are unforgettable,
but okay.
Unforgettable in the other way.
This happened in Japan, and it was in the year 2008.
Very, very long time ago.
And this didn't happen to me,
but my friend got something in Japan
called shaka shaka chicken from McDonald's.
It's basically a fried chicken patty,
and you add, like, some sprinkle, some seasoning in, okay?
And then what you're supposed to do is,
you close the bag, it's a paper bag,
and you're supposed to shake it.
And he was shaking it.
He was super excited.
He started shaking it,
and what happened was he shook too hard,
so the bag ripped open,
and his shaka shaka chicken fell on the floor.
And it was the saddest thing that I've ever seen.
He was broken.
Yeah, now every time I see shaka shaka chicken,
it reminds me of that story.
Shaka shaka.
Don't shake your chicken too hard, okay?
All right, I'll tell my story next time, okay?
So my story is very memorable.
It's in Mexico.
It was our first time in Mexico.
I went with Will, and we didn't know anything,
so we ate everything.
That went completely wrong.
So we ate cactus, we drank from random water sources,
and what happened was everybody got food poisoning.
And then, okay, this is the catch, though.
After getting food poisoning,
we had a show in, like, two days.
The thing was, the theater was really big,
and there was elevation.
So it's a mile high, or even higher than a mile.
It's higher, it's higher.
You can't breathe.
The stage is huge, so you have to run more
before, like, every time I had to go on,
I had to go to the bathroom first, okay?
And I was throwing up and stuff.
I think I was okay for the performance,
but after the performance, usually at the hotel,
I had to stay in the bathroom for a long time.
Yeah, exactly.
So every time I go back, we drink the bottled water.
We're really careful what we eat, except for tacos.
Like I said earlier, like, I've been there
to perform, like, five or six times.
Every time after that, I didn't have any stomach problems.
It's all good.
Okay, my most memorable story is also Mexico.
It was my first time going to Mexico.
I heard of those, like, story about, you know,
like, having a stomach problem.
And in Mexico, nothing happened until the last day.
I was like, oh, yeah, I'm safe.
You let us guard down.
Last day in Mexico, I ordered room service.
I remember clearly, I got chicken nuggets and a milkshake.
Next day, it's like, we had to fly really early
in the morning, and then we got to Colombia,
and I already felt something is not right.
That day on, I had a stomach problem for a week,
like, nonstop.
Like, I had to go, like, at least, like,
more than 10 times a day.
Worst thing was, it was high elevation,
same as Mexico City.
Yeah.
Like, we had two-two, which means, like,
have four shows in two days, which is, like,
really tiring for the dancers.
I was the lead dancer for the opening piece,
so I had flipping, jumping, and tumbling techniques.
And I was in the bathroom, and I didn't warm up at all.
I didn't even, like, switch.
So I was, like, so nervous.
And then I just, like, quickly warm up for 10 minutes.
I did better than normal.
Seriously.
I felt like I jumped and flipped, like, lighter and higher.
I think the scariest thing about this, like,
food poisoning is you don't know
when you have to go to the bathroom.
So it could be in the middle of the piece.
So I thought we were talking about food.
Now we're talking about going to the bathroom,
but it all started from chicken nuggets and milkshake.
So guys, don't let your guard down in Mexico.
Not to say that everything in Mexico is bad.
It's just to say that when you go to a new country
or a new place, your body is not used to the food there.
One of my favourite countries to visit
and, like, just to go have fun on vacation
is actually Taiwan.
And every time we go to perform,
food there is really, really good.
I didn't have much problems there,
but there was this one time
where I actually got rashes all over my body.
And in Chinese, they say,
you're not used to the water and lands there.
Even though I like that country so much
and I had so much fun there,
all of a sudden, that one time,
I actually had some, like,
it was kind of like tides or something.
I'm not exactly sure what it's from, but yeah.
Okay, so those are our most unforgettable food experiences
from while we're on tour.
I hope you guys like those.
