Mom, why did you wake up so early?
My daughter woke up so early.
She watched the fireworks yesterday, so she's not sleepy today.
You have to wake up early, mom.
Today, can I go to my friend's house to hang out?
You haven't eaten anything since you got up this morning.
It's already 10 o'clock.
Can I go to my friend's house to hang out first?
No, you can't.
They absolutely don't want you to live in their house.
But whichever house I live in, that house is very lucky, mom.
Can I go to my friend's house to call her?
Then we can go hang out, mom.
It's okay if it's a normal day.
But on New Year's Day, you have to be careful.
Yes, that's fine.
But look at me.
Today, both of us are wearing matching dresses, mom.
Oh, why are you wearing this white dress?
Now I just noticed.
Go upstairs and change the red dress for me right away.
Mom, on New Year's Day, people say wearing a white dress is very unlucky.
Is that so, mom?
Everything is complicated on New Year's Day, mom.
Happy to see you again in the show Skills Live,
which is broadcast weekly on VTV3 channel.
Ladies and gentlemen, we are living in the fresh,
lively atmosphere of New Year's Day.
And clearly, in the minds of Vietnamese people,
the New Year is the beginning of new things.
And if on these first days of the year,
we can meet good things,
we will be lucky all year round and vice versa.
It is also from these thoughts that our father has had a lot of practices
and rituals during the New Year's Day that have been passed down.
And what are those practices?
How do young people today apply them?
And how has it changed over time?
We will talk about the ritual on New Year's Day
with cultural researcher Nguyen Hung Vy.
I would like to extend a warm welcome and thank you for participating in today's show.
Hello.
We have just come to a situation where mothers
really value the ritual on New Year's Day.
So, in your opinion, what is the meaning of these rituals?
Why do we have to avoid those things on New Year's Day?
Rituals reflect a way of thinking,
a way of living,
a special way of behaving
of Vietnamese people
towards humans,
humans with nature,
and humans with themselves.
So, in all these rituals,
they reflect a love for culture,
which is different from other people.
The contribution of the ritual to the culture
creates a difference.
It is a very complex phenomenon in life.
We divide it into several categories.
Some rituals are reasonable
and explained reasonably.
Some rituals are partially reasonable
but the explanation is not reasonable.
For example,
in the beginning of the year,
there is a ritual
where people want the most
for the New Year.
But people explain that
if it is the beginning of the year,
then the whole year is the beginning of the year.
That cannot be explained.
The way to explain it is to explain it wrongly
in a reasonable way.
The third thing is that
when there is no reason,
then there is no reason to explain anything.
For example,
if a person cannot do everything
because he is a monk,
then there is no reason to explain anything.
Explaining with words
to explain everything
is not right.
That is not reasonable.
No matter how you explain it, it is not reasonable.
Can you share with us,
apart from the rituals and the rituals
in the previous case,
what other rituals are there
other than the ritual to avoid
entering the house
and to focus on the New Year.
That is a special ritual.
Even for Japanese women,
they don't do it.
For example?
For example, Japanese women
don't do it.
In the New Year, they do it.
For example,
in the New Year,
they do the ritual to avoid entering the house.
Before the New Year, they do it.
After the New Year,
they do it to avoid entering the house.
In the New Year, they do it.
Therefore,
in daily life,
if you don't do it,
you have to do it on the New Year.
Is this a way
to make us feel
more secure?
Does it bring us luck?
If you are determined,
it will bring you luck.
But with
the unreasonable things
that people still believe in,
it is like a burden
of life.
It is like a burden of life.
It is like a pain reliever
when people believe in it.
They don't dare to believe in it
more than they don't believe in anything.
Where do Vietnamese people
have such perseverance?
From their life experience
or scientific experience,
they have created a belief.
Perseverance is good.
Secondly,
everything will come to you.
If you are determined,
people will also persevere.
We divide it into two types.
The first type is
the more determined you are,
the more you persevere.
People in the sea,
people in poverty,
people in the mountains,
they are very determined.
They take risks.
When there are
many risks in life,
they persevere.
That is the first thing.
The second thing is
the more people expect,
the less clear the road
to that expectation is.
People persevere more and more.
The third thing is
in the space of heaven,
perseverance is never different
from the space of hell.
The more cultural factors
accumulate in time,
perseverance also accumulates.
The space of heaven is
the place where we
focus on the ancestors,
on the gods,
on the smoke,
on the fire.
That is the space of heaven.
The more things,
the more perseverance.
That is why we call it
the time of perseverance.
Ladies and gentlemen,
with Mr. Nguyễn Hùng Vĩ's sharing,
I would like to ask you
about what you should do
or what you should keep in mind
in this Tet holiday.
I would like to invite
Nguyễn Hùng Vĩ
and the audience
to join us
in a short interview.
My family,
for example,
at the beginning of the year,
we usually don't throw away
the trash.
During the Tet holiday,
I think it is very important
that we don't throw away the trash
because my parents
often say that
if you throw away the trash,
all the trash will be thrown away.
During the Tet holiday,
my parents often tell me
not to say bad things
so that my family
can have more luck.
My parents tell me
that if I don't do
good things,
I will have bad luck for the rest of my life.
We have just heard
many different opinions
from parents and students
about the bad things
during the Tet holiday.
Obviously, the traditions
can change over time,
especially in today's society.
Are you sure that
the young people will change
their way of thinking
about bad things?
I am 12 years old,
but I still don't know how to read newspapers.
I have met many young people
who study very hard.
They play the guitar very well.
They live a very happy life.
But in general,
young people are disappointed.
But there are many young people
who are disappointed
not because of the reality,
but because of the reality.
Some of them
are more passionate about
their dreams.
Some of them
rely on their own ability
to realize their dreams.
In the future,
they will have
a very good life
and they will be less persistent.
Their life will be more rational
and more economical.
Can you share
any persistent things
that we should
get rid of
in this era?
There are things
that we should get rid of.
For example,
we should get rid of
many things
immediately.
We should get rid
of things that
don't make sense.
We should live
with people who are more important.
No matter how old I am,
if I come to you,
I will respect you.
If I come to you
because of my age,
I will not respect you.
Obviously,
when we live happily
and harmoniously,
good things will come to us.
Do you have any advice
for parents
to teach their children
about persistence
in the Tet holiday?
Don't eat too much.
If you eat too much,
you will get fat.
If you drink too much,
you will get fat.
The first thing
is the relationship
between people.
What we get is that
we need to persist.
The more we persist
in our actions,
the better it will be.
But we should persist
to the extent that
we remember that
we come to visit
and we get what we want.
That will make
our love
not disappear.
Perseverance is the best thing.
We don't lose our love
because of something.
With Mr. Nguyen Hung Vy's sharing,
we should keep our perseverance.
With a beautiful
and traditional ethnic group like Vietnam,
people live to love each other.
With the sharing,
I hope you have
what you should do
and what you should persevere
in the Tet holiday.
I hope the sharing
will help you
and make you feel at ease.
Thank you Mr. Nguyen Hung Vy
for joining us today.
I wish you and your family
a happy Tet holiday.
Thank you for watching
and don't forget to visit
our website.
Goodbye and see you again.
