Minnie Mouse Cake Topper Craft-a-Long Featuring Encore Cardstock from 12x12 Cardstock Shop

hi everyone it's and from the useless crafter and today we're going to be making a mini mouse cake topper. it's a shaker and it's a lot of fun, so I know I already see a couple of you guys online, can you just let me know in the comments that you can hear me. it's always a little bit weird for me when it's just me and I don't have a co host because i'm worried that you can't hear me at all so. i'm going to pause for a second and then i'll go over everything that you see on my desk, which is craziness right now all the fun goodies. That take up so much space okay perfect, thank you for letting me know you can hear me okay most of the things on here. You can get from 12 by 12 card stock shop so that should be in the description, I am using their encore line which I am in love with, so I got i've been getting a lot of questions about how well it cuts. You know what do I think so you know I use a lot of basil paper and I use a lot of AC card stock on core fits right in there, I I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but. I don't think if it didn't come with a label and I wasn't paying attention I don't know if I can really tell the difference between the three because between the three collections. I pretty much have all the colors that I possibly need, so let me show you what it looks like it cuts all the same to me so when i'm cutting basil encore or AC card stock, just so that you know. um I cut it on heavy card stock on my cricket and that's on all three of my different crickets I do not change the setting of the original setting so when I go into cricket to cut. Some people will go in there and make adjustments to it, I use factory settings. But what I will do is where I make changes is maybe instead of, for instance, instead of putting heavy card stuff I might put on glitter card stock. So I always keep the settings to be the same, but which settings I choose will vary depending on the actual item if that makes sense. I don't want to mess with it, because then I have a standard like a set standard of you know how things cut and then i'll make my adjustments from there. So alright, so this is the encore line look at all the colors I highly recommend getting the sampler package, whether it comes with 100 sheets all these colors. And there are some colors in here that are not available that don't have an equivalent for basil so. i'm not saying to replace any of them like for one line for another. What i'm excited about is that now I have so many colors to choose from there's a range in here in the pinks that are very vibrant that are not available and basil so I love that. i'm also loving a lot the oranges here and the purples I feel like I have a lot of pink it's just because i'm such a pink lover that these right here. i'm. I love it, but I don't like it's not amazing to me what's amazing is this section right here I love these colors right here, including the red the red is like. it's very vibrant that's The one thing that I would that I would say about this section right here super vibrant. there's something in the yellow the yellows and the oranges that are a little bit different than basil and then the purples over here are. it's just like it's got a I don't know it's a little bit more vibrant so there you have it, you can also what I would recommend. Excuse me walk. Is um I love having a swatch kit so this watch book, they have it for the glitters which you know it's so hard to tell your card stock selection. By looking at pictures right online, so I like having both of these this right here is the the section that I was telling you about that's different I love it. Alright, so let's get started oh Sarah says love all the pastels um i'm loving I just I love. Paper right and I just love having all these options now and then what's nice once you have the swatch kit is it's so easy to order, then you just go on 12 by 12 and then, and then you get it. The picture is a little fuzzy tried to improve on my end and didn't work oh no okay. i'm hopefully it that will clear up alright, so the shaker one of the things that i'm doing that I love with the shakers is that I don't use just regular acetate paper, I have a little bit of. Some designs on the acetate paper, so this one is American card stock and it's the specialty line it's got the stars, so it just. I don't know it's just a little extra I love it so anyway i'm gonna put that aside we'll get started and then, of course, all the fun stuff so. All the things to make it loud and smell good with real sprinkles so i'm going to move all of that aside i've got a lot of things there all right. let's get started, so if you don't have this file or you're not making this with me, but you like it, I have both the YouTube tutorial for how to design it and also if you don't want to do it i'm not sure how. Someone will have to let me know, but the file is the design space to this cool sorry the design space project is. On my design space profile, so you should be able to cut you would have to buy I bought all the images, so I bought the Mickey Mouse and all that stuff so. um okay let's get started Oh, the other thing that I really like is i'm loving this acetate on acetate so that it's a clear topper and there's no no nothing behind it no color behind it. I don't know i'm just really loving that right now so okay I slice this was I wanted to give us room to make mistakes, so you see there's the. The hot pink which I love this is from the encore line, this is kind of thin and we're going to use i'm going to use the quarter inch foam. foam strips from barely art, which you can also get on 12 by 12 card stock shop i'm using that so it's still thin but with this offset it really will cover anytime that i'm not. Perfect in putting down my phone strips, so what I want to do is, I want to glue the. The for the sprinkles to kind of stick everywhere and because I one of the things that I don't like is when you put your cake topper standing up all of your stuff falls down to the bottom so. What I do want to do is what I did on my first one is I used a little bit of the hot glue gun right here, and I created a barrier so that there's there's stuff that will always be in the ears. The bow kind of hides it so you don't really see it and it's clear so all right let's get started, I know I keep talking sorry sorry sorry. All right let's glue these these two pieces together and then, are you guys ready i'm so excited this week, so this week, sorry, let me get my pin. um we have the XOXO craft girls the Halloween craft along so if you haven't bought your ticket or if you haven't even registered for your free pass you should it's on my website. Okay, so for my acetate i'm just doing a thin layer in the middle, I know the glue is going to slide around a little bit it's another reason why I like using a printed acetate because you don't see all the. Now I don't need this is not my gosh i'm like losing my brains. We get cat speak right now um the acetate just needs to stick to the card stock, but this isn't where we need to build our you know to like our little. What do you call it our little wall to hold the sprinkles and that's going to be with our phones for foam strip. Barbara yay i'm excited that you're excited for the Halloween craft okay so i'm just taking this look at it so Nice and thick and it's super sticky so i'm just going to start on one end and go all the way around. And and go all the way around and because the way the design is there's enough room that I can bend it and I don't have to worry about it popping out. So i'm just going to go all the way around at the very end or right now, you can. Do either, but you do want to press down, we want to activate the stickiness so we want to push down and then continue on, I do have. So you know we're we're connecting it right here, I will put some glue right here later because I don't want any of my confetti stuff to fall out onto the cake so. um we're just going to go all the way around and then for my VIP pass holders are you guys excited about the raffle so one person is going to win we've got five sponsors. So that's always fun Okay, so I you can use either kind of glue you can use barely art so i'm going to fill it in here, the reason why I use barely art is because. And I just you know so, then I don't have to worry about the little pieces coming out there's no way my big sprinkles are going to get out of this wall that we're building. But I did it everything's like drying right now okay i'm gonna do a little bit of this just so that some of it sticks on right there my do a little bit of this and I love mixing my confetti so. Yes, I love the scoopers that you sent me okay um I like these for noise, you can hear it right. I also like the stars for noises to. I mean. You can hear it yeah and then these stars also make a lot of noise, so I, like the stars, they are I don't know I bought them from michael's and I took them out of the box, but. that's just all the stars, so I love that all right we're just gonna fill up this thing I like using the. quarter of an inch phone tape because, then I can put in really you know a lot of confetti so you can see that. All right, how is that looking okay we've still got a lot to fill in so don't worry i'm just throwing in a lot of things I don't know what that is all right let's try this. I went with. I guess I could throw some of these in here all but there's gold and not one, let me see I don't really want gold. And then I might throw in some white here all right, I think we're good. I put in so much okay um are we done I think we're done right Okay, so when you're pulling this this tape i'm sure. That many of you guys on here already know, but just keep a hold on it, because as you pull it up these little suckers want to pop out so. You know, always just have like your finger down to hold it in place and then, when we put that last layer of acetate the cover on top we're going to press down really well. um we just really want to activate the stickiness and I say this every single time because it's so important anything that is not like a glue. And it's like a sticky adhesive so vinyl stickers all that stuff those are called pressure vinyl so you need to press press down the pressure is what makes it what activates oh my God, I just did what I told you not to do. um oh my gosh do you knew that was going to happen right seriously. Okay, and you need to make sure that you press down because the pressure is what activates the stickiness so Okay, I think I cleared it up enough, I cannot believe that just happened okay. i'm okay there's a front and the back to the acetate the front is gold and the back is, you know just a silver so it's up to you, if you want to spin your cake topper then you might want the gold on the back. um I don't think it makes that much of a difference, because this is so faint you're not going to notice it with the sprinkles on top of that, so I am going to. i'm just going to do the gold on the back alright, so when you're putting it down you pretty much have like one chance to put it down, because the whole thing is super sticky so kind of line it up. um, and this is why it's kind of nice and look at all my sprinkles that came out hold on, let me scoop it in. And this is why it's nice that the design that I did it this way, where there's space, so that you don't have to line it up perfectly the. The phone strips are kind of like in more so you don't have to make sure it lines up perfectly otherwise you're going to be short on the acetate so okay. I just pushed okay i'm down everything is good let's make sure it's sealed. push down on it, and while the glue over here on the two edges it doesn't feel all the way up so it's not as tall as my as my glue or as my tape. But it's enough to keep stuff in the ears, so if you see like see how it didn't so I can so it's never my shakers never fully empty. And that's kind of what I want I don't want to empty all on the top and everything's down at the bottom alright so let's flip this over. put it. My gosh so messy okay um this gold is one of my favorites it's from 12 by 12 card stock shop and it's the metallic gold it's linen So if you look really closely, let me see if I can get it. It looks like linen even though it's paper it's gorgeous I mean I still have the plastic wrap on this one, but let me see if you can see it on here that well you can kind of right. I love it okay so let's start building all this, I am using quality paper, so you can see my mini I will say that um. My crickets cutting really well these days for print than cut so you see like it's just you know she's actually really, really good alright. So I bought this image well actually I didn't buy this image I take it back Kayla from the salty Yankee has this image, so what I did was what I like about using her files is their svg files. And so I was able to isolate the bow and do the bow a couple times so that the bow is going to stick out on top of many so there's three minis that we're going to layer. I always cut out a few of these so that as i'm building it, I can decide on that day how many layers I want to do, I know. Because I don't sell my orders, I feel like i'm not as consistent in what I do right so it's it's whatever I feel like as i'm making it so i'm very inconsistent sometimes it's two layers sometimes it's five layers so. that's why i'm I kind of let it just go. All right, i'm using the one eighth of an inch foam tape from barely art and i'm just going to layer this and then i'm going to layer just a few and then i'm going to put the bow on top, to see how much is too much. And even I have a limit. So let's put this on here and it's funny you know when i'm layering sometimes I actually like to be slightly off so that you can kind of see the late just a little bit on the on the edges. And then, sometimes I wind them up perfectly and you can only see it if you're not looking directly at it oh Monica Thank you so much for that comment um it's yeah it's. senya go live the other day with their cute toppers and banner and we are going to have a Christmas event so i'm going to try, for all of my XO XO Halloween. projects that i'm doing and co hosting i'm turning those files into Christmas files, so I hope you guys enjoy it because you've seen the pictures, you know how to craft it. I think a lot of times it's fun to see how you can take a file and change it whether it's just the colors or just slight slight changes that totally make a difference and then of course it's so funny. obsessed with it's so good, I loved the projects that they did this weekend so so good, I know I need to watch the movie, I will one of these days, one of these days, when I have time. i'm going to do it okay so here's mini I love the layers and so you know I only did two layers of her. Have you guys tried the encore line, and what do you think, and if you haven't tried it, what do you think just from what you've seen um I know that I saw who who has it so far, I saw the from forever pedals. i'm forever pedals by the and then I also saw Janet right from crafty decor and JESSICA from a mother's craft and then. i've been using it quite a bit late since since I opened it alright, so here is the difference so here's her bow just sticking out just a little details that I love, so if you go back to this one. she's going to cover a little bit of that glue right there the bow is going to cover the glue here and so let's put together the bow and i'm just gonna swipe away. So crazy alright, so the bow. i'm getting the pieces, so I went with a few different shades of pink right so we've got the pink on actual mini. And I didn't want to match it completely, so this one's a brighter pink and then we've got this in the sequin glitter card stock, which I love. And then we've got this one, and then her name keats I love this font, so this is from creative fabric it's in the details or in the description um it's just a little things that make these fonts so stinking cute. So on this it's got these little like you know how like. Whenever you do paper balloons they always have that little like air piece or whatever, can you see it better there, so I love it. it's the little details alright, so um I usually like on this, this is thick enough but there's so many thin areas that i'm going to glue this flat onto the white and. layer everything else, just so that it's easier on myself, I do, I mean I do ridiculous things, but when I can't make it easy on myself, I tried to. All right, i'm Sarah I have a pearlescent obsession oh okay so you like basil has that right like that Pearl shimmer effect, so here is Kate straight on. And i'm just going to I should have switched out my blade, but I didn't so there's some pieces right here shine is my new favorite font yay. Thank you for that reminder, I was like what is the name of the font I could not remember okay so now this piece it's thick enough so i'm gonna then add the. The phone needs to this piece, did you guys see I mean I know you guys have options with phone me is now you've got um you've got barely art, of course, and you also have Nancy from fanciful chaos. barely art just I think they're dropping this week right the the black phone means and then, of course, Nancy has like a bazillion colors so alright let's put this down. I just love I love this color combo and I, I like that thinner offsets I want to say this offset is a point zero five. And then i'm going to another layer yes actually have quite a few layers of the name that we can do so so it's going to go here like that let's do the floor. So the for same thing with the for i'm going to do the pink right on to the gold and pop out it's so pretty. Okay, and then on this one, I will put a little strip over here because I had it right there. I know some of you ladies have tickets to. i'm XO XO craft goals, can you tell me your favorite your favorite project or the ones that you're looking forward to, and is it a beyond. This the number four is the same font as the name so it's shine from creative fabrica and I love it so it's got that same like little cut out in the for as it does in the letters. And I did um you know I use the same three colors but in different orders so like for the four it's the sequin on top, and then the gold and then the white. As opposed to the name where it's like a light pink white and then gold and with it all that it kind of looks you know it's cohesive but it's different. So just to see what that looks like i've got one more for over here, oh I. I already put the white on and I don't turn it Okay, so this. I put it out of order, and so I already put the white on so what i'm going to do is to make this one thicker and pop out a little bit more. i'm going to actually use the quarter of an inch for me is on the back of this one and that's my fault, because I had another gold here and I just I put the white on without thinking. So always recoverable and no one says it has to have that many layers right, we can always adjust with the layers and the other and the other pieces so. i'm gonna put this for right in the middle okay so let's work on the bow or we can do the name one more one more for the name. The spooky lamp post oh my gosh I know, and I was going to do that one, but. We had to switch some schedules around so i'm actually not going to do i'll be on I don't know if i'll have time to cut it, I know, but I can't wait to see that one Jen is definitely doing that one. And you saw the Halloween version already and then Kayla is doing a different version of her very own too so you're going to see a lot of different ones. I wanted to make that one to match all my Christmas stuff from last year. Okay, so we've got that let's look at the bow now the bow the bow was the most annoying part of this whole cake topper because the little white dots the little white circles were all individual pieces, so I was not thrilled about that. So. um and they're blended in here over here, so let me pull, so this is the only thing, and we don't have to do this part of it i'm just going to do the bows that we have the bow, but I will put the white pieces in. i'm going to glue the bow straight on there, because the idea of foaming up every one of those white circles is really unappealing to me so. i'm just going to put it straight on and all the layering is going to come in the gold pieces because we've got a lot of gold options, right here, that was easy to cut so. need to move this over a little more there we go and with the glue with barely art glue it doesn't take that much to make sure that it dries flat. I mean it dries within a couple seconds, but as it's trying, I do like to press down on all the edges, just to make sure that it, you know. it's making contact with top and bottom and then it just dries flat so like you can see here it's totally flat on there it's it's a great glue for for paper crafting. um all right i'm just missing my little little piece, and this one goes oh hold on hold on I don't remember her bow um shoot do I have a picture okay. i'm going to glue this one on later because I don't remember exactly which way it is so let me just do these pieces, we can always do that later. And for this, I really just want to I know some of you guys are like to use a lot more phonies than I do I just I I hate this part of it, which is why I don't put a lot of foam tape on. And I just for me, I just want to make sure that my piece is balanced, so that it, you know this will keep the top layer completely balanced so. And I just saw a comment about the glue holder I love my glue holder it's from whimsical wishes there on Etsy. And I love it because you saw you know i've been gluing this whole time and I don't have to unclog it so it stays, you know kind of like. it's enclosed inside the silicone tip or the silicone bottom meets the position tip so it doesn't dry out, it will dry out overnight sometimes. um or if it's been a while, but I just unclog it once and then the whole time that i'm working on my project I don't need to unclog it which I used to just because I was so bad about putting the tip on the Cup alright so we've got our. um yeah the golden and card stock, it is gorgeous I really it just it's very expensive looking. it's a nice option to glitter card stock, I mean you know I love my glitter card stock, but this the only glitter that you see on here is the sequence on the for I really kept away from it because I love all the sprinkles inside. i'm like I like that detail of it, I, like the acetate the clear acetate the double acetate so it's a clear cake topper all the way through. I saw this on a cake for I made this for a friend for her daughter's birthday and then I loved it so much, and I gave it away, obviously, so I. um I you know needed to remake it and then this one, I was like someone else asked for another friend so i'm like okay so i'm making it and I just realized i'm not going to have it again like it's going to leave my art room. So it's going to go something like this okay um and it's just and you see, like the actually I mean. We could put the bow up a little bit more, and you can see there's very little of the glue to even see. And you wouldn't notice it because there's a lot of pink and the sprinkles and everything and then on this side you've got many so you don't you could still put your bow higher up if you wanted to. Like right around there it doesn't need to go all the way down to cover your glue if you did that, though it kind of just closes up your your mouse a little bit. The face, because the fours already here, you could put the cake down a little bit lower and then this over so it just depends on you know, like what look. How much of it bothers you i'm going to put this higher up because I don't think the glue the glue is barely noticeable and it's only because i'm looking at it, I don't think anyone else would notice it. And when i'm going on to the cake topper because i've got all these layers I am going to just put. um i'm going to use me use my hot glue gun so i'm going to hit the bottom of the bow so i'm going to flip this over and I know it's here. So you can see it's just starting to come it's so pretty right it's so simple so cute I love it alright let's put the cake down. And to make this even I I kind of want to you know the two swirls are going to be up, you know coming out, so I think i'm going to do it like this. So it's going to be the top of the K and the tea that i'm going to put glue and I wanted to pop out a little bit more, I think i'm going to do this i'm going to put. Another layer right here and i'm going to put glue on all around this so when i'm doing hot glue. On this one, just because it's like a hanging piece off of the cake topper i'm actually going to put glue to make sure that my phone these aren't going to go anywhere. And i'm not going to put glue on the top, yet just so that it gives me a little bit of time and I don't have to rush through it. So I want to make sure that my glue my glue is not going anywhere and then i'll DAB a little bit of glue on top and then i'll put it down like this. And that should be enough to hold everything alright, so I think i'm ready and i'm just going to kind of like look above just so I can make sure. it's Nice and straight now because it's not even right, because we only put the glue up on top i'm going to hold it down, while the hot glue gun is drying it will keep the whole name Kate. leveled so it just needs to dry flat and then i'll stay on there malia's mommy can I know a little bit more about the Halloween VIP pass yeah of course okay so. me and eight of my friends. So yeah that's that's that's what's going on, so they're all it's Halloween based Halloween themed So if you go on to the useless crafter now, you can see all the projects, as you know, we designed them. But because we're going live and we're going to show everyone how to piece it together we didn't want to show the same thing so some of us will be doing different versions of it so i'm going to try to you, I know it's September. But i'm going to try to change all the mind any project that I actually will do during the lives i'm going to change it to a Christmas beam so using the same SVG is. How I will edit the file and turn it into Christmas so okay so we've got this down which I just love okay let's talk about. I still have many that we need to put on we can put many on last what I want to talk about, though, is, let me move all this side the straw the straw part, so I am going with because we've got gold all over here. i'm going to go with a gold straw, so this is from Amazon it's going to go right here, but I want to make sure, because this is just a paper straw so I don't want this to have. I don't want it to be compromised because it's a little heavy, so I do recommend sticking in an acrylic stick inside so when you do that what I want you to do is. I always put a little bit of hot glue right inside here and then i'm going to. roll this all the way in so it gets some glue as it's going in, you can keep some out it doesn't really matter that way people know that that's there, if you want to, or you can push it all the way in. i'm going to leave a little bit sticking out because i'm going to have the acrylic part extend up here so that there's. A little bit more stability for the whole cake topper so the cake topper is going to go like this it's going to look like this from behind. So it's going up the middle, yes, you can kind of see it through but it's not distracting because there's going to be confetti there's the stars, you can barely see that and I didn't want. The gold part to come up here, so that would be you know more distracting to me so that's why I have it kind of hanging out like this so before you put this in. let's put glue on the top portion, so that this doesn't fall out so we've got too many acrylic sticks in the inside of this straw so the pretty part is going to be at the bottom. And then the top part is for stability for that your cake topper but not to distract from the you know the see through of the cake topper. So this is going to go and we pretty much have like a straight middle right here, so when you put this over here it's going to go like that. And so i'm lining this up like so, so I can see it right i'm using this blue line right here and i'm going to push this up a little bit so I. i'm going to put glue right here I don't want to put glue in the middle, because you can actually that's a lot. So I want to put glue up here and i'm going to put a lot of glue down here, so the way i'm going to do this is you're not going to be able to ever see the glue down here. down here i'm going to put just a little bit and put that down I just I just put enough glue so that my straw can stay where I want it to stay before I reinforce it with more glue. So, now that I have that i'm going to lift this up and put a little bit of glue here our other option that I did not cut out an extra layer, but I, if you cut out the white. You can put this over and it will look very nice and clean you won't see the foam tape and all of that I forgot to cut it so. that's how I would do this and then put a little bit of glue here, these are all like areas that you can't see we'll let that dry. And then, with acetate and glue strings like there's a glue string right here. I just use my tweezers if you pull it up the whole thing comes up what you don't want to do is rub it in glue strings and rubbing it on acetate it like it is not good. So you don't want to do that i'm gonna let this dry before I pick it up and then let me let's go back over here and make sure. And so you can see it's very stable and then to clean it up right, we just put we put an extra layer of this if you did the white and the pink and you did it on the backside one it will clean up this whole thing. I don't think it looks messy as is but it's definitely not as nice as this side right this side is like perfect. But on this side, if you did that you would reinforce the straw as well, so, then you can put a lot more glue up here and here and that will just look really, really nice and because we have extra I have more of the phone. Let me see oh I don't Okay, I was gonna say if I had more of the bow I would put a bow back here, but we have the four so you could, if you wanted to put the four down like right here. On the back, but it's you know totally I mean all these extra layers you could write this would just reinforce everything kind of make it look cleaner, if you wanted to do that you don't need to. But so. let's put on mini so many I had kind of like just hanging out on the side I didn't want to take away I mean clearly it's the mouse shape right the mouse ears. And the bow so I think i'm going to put her just hanging like this, so she is going to i'm going to use my hot glue gun. And i'm just going to put it on this whole magenta area, because I could see that's that's what I want to do what you don't want you want to be careful, though, if we just hit like the top portion. You don't want to extend it too far down and then then you're stuck doing something like this to hide the glue so. Just make sure that when you're putting this on so i'm gonna put a little bit right here and right here and again with the hot glue gun i'm just going to hold it while it's drying just so that it stays flat. And then it's so stinking cute but I really I love having the sprinkles like everywhere and not just all of it falling to the bottom so and at this point, you can't see it at all. yay. isn't it pretty I love this cake topper and you can hear it everyone loved it adults included.
