Hi, it's Ann from the useless crafter.
Today's tutorial is going to be in
Design Space. I have some ready tomake
projects that are available. So, I'll
show you how to get to that, but
specifically I'm going to show you how
to personalize this one um to bring in a
photo, but also um to recreate it if you
want to from scratch. So, it's going to
start out you'll get a little bit of
everything and hopefully I think by the
end you'll be more used to using Design
Space or at least how I use it. All
right. So, first let's get started by
finding my profile. So, if you're in the
main page, what you want to do is um
type in the useless crafter. Let's see
if it comes up. All right. So, once you
search the useless crafter, you have to
go and click on profiles. And there I
am. So, you want to click on me. And
then once you're in here, you can hit
follow. I mean, obviously, I'm in my own
account, so I can't follow myself, but
I'll show you what that looks like. I'll
show you. So, here are all the projects.
I have 28 that are ready to go. Um, and
once you click on it, it's easy to
customize the colors and whatever else.
Um, but I also want to show you I only
follow a handful of people, but one of
my favorites is April right here at
Lilac Peaches Handmade. And
um, you might recognize some of my
recent projects. I' I've been doing her
stuff because they're just so stinking
cute. They're cute little projects. So
anyway, those are two profiles. You can
check out the rest that I'm the other
five that I'm following. Okay. So, let's
go into
um my
profile and we're going to look at this
project. So, I did two. This is the one
that you just saw me hold up and then
this is the cake topper. They're both
the same. The the mini this one is just
obviously this taken and made it a
little bit bigger. So, and I just think
it's so cute to put a baby picture in
there or a younger picture for whether
it's the fifth grade, graduation, or
even high school. All right. So, what
you want to do is you want to go to
customize. And once you're in here, I
left the picture so that you can just
use you can upload your picture and go
in here. So, what you want to do is one,
make sure that you like the size. So,
for this
Hold on. Let me move this little This
little dot is to go on top of the hat
because you know how it has that little
circle. So, um it's seven a little bit
over 7 in and about 4 and 1/2 in high.
If you want to make it bigger, you can
resize it here. Just make sure
everything that you want on the cute
topper is in here. And you would just
resize it. Oops. See, it's not all in
there. All right. So, you want to grab
the whole thing and resize it together
because it's meant to go together. So,
if you're going to resize it, this is
where you would do it. Okay, I'm going
to go and upload a picture. Okay, so I
can show you how to do that. So, um
here's the picture and here's this one.
What you want to do is you want to
ungroup it. I grouped it right now so
that you can move everything more easily
and then you can go in and customize
your colors. Um, but to get to the
picture specifically, you want to
ungroup it. And you want to take out
this picture here. And you're going to
go to upload. You need to download a
picture that you want to use. Okay. So,
here I've already have a picture, but
I'm going to go to upload image as if
I'm doing it from the beginning. You
want to click on browse to find the
picture that you're going to use. And I
think all of my pictures are in my
downloads. I think I see it. So, I'm
going to just do another one. I'm going
to do this one. Um,
open and continue.
and apply and
[Music]
continue. I didn't want to do anything.
I just want a flat flat graphic because
it's just a picture. And I'm going to
hit continue. Hopefully, it'll go. I
mean, I know it says it's a big file.
Okay. Um I'm just going to change this
to
Charlotte and upload. Okay. So, it's
going to come in. It's going to be
humongous. It's okay. We're going to fix
that.
All right, it says it's uploaded, so
that's good. Hopefully, we'll get out of
this screen in a
second. Okay, great. Okay, so I'm just
going to I'm going to make this smaller
just for the moment. Okay, so here is
Charlotte's face. It's really big. So,
I'm going to make this photo
smaller. Okay, and then I'm going to go
back and make this big so that we can
see it.
Okay. So, here is the picture. Here is
the cap. Okay. So, kind of for me, um,
go ahead and arrange and bring to the
front. You can kind of see that's a good
fit, right? So, actually, let's see.
Let's bring this to the front. And you
saw I swear this is not scripted. Oh my
gosh. It's like almost the right size of
her face. So, the easy way to do this is
this is two inches, right? about 2 in.
If you want to just kind of angle it and
see um I would go to shapes, bring in um
a circle and make it it's it's 2 in,
which is about this size. Okay. And then
if you change this to
um draw with the pen, it gives you and
let's bring uh arrange bring to the Oh,
it is in the front. Okay.
So you can kind of see how if you want
to resize that. Let's see if I can make
this a different color so we can see it
a little bit
better.
[Music]
Um you kind of see it there.
Okay. So here is the circle. If you
wanted to make this more of her face to
fit in there, you can, you know, resize
it at that point. But you kind of see
where it is. Okay. So I'm going to move
this circle. I'm going to move this here
and put it on top. And then you're going
to grab the two items and you're going
to
slice. So there's the new picture. This
is the one that you're using to cut to
slice. So now you can put the cap over
arrange. Bring it to the front so you
can see what the cap looks like. And
it's totally good, right? Okay. So let's
we can delete this. So that's if you're
bringing in your picture. Now, to make
it this big, all you need to do is see
how big this is. This is about 3 and 1/2
in. So, you can put your picture back in
here. You can put the cap on the way you
like it. It's so stinking
cute. Um, I do like the way I did this
was I had two graduation caps sitting on
top of each other. So, I
would I would just duplicate this hat so
that you have two of them. Okay. So,
that's
Oops. That's going to
fit on this one right here. Okay. So,
you're good with that. But to make it
bigger, all I would do is I would make a
copy of it and then make this the size
that you want. And then that's ready to
go as a as a mini cake topper photo prop
for everyone to keep. That's it's cute,
too. So, you can make a bunch of those.
They're very easy to do. All right. So,
that's all done. Now, if you want to,
you can either get off now. Oh, wait.
Not yet. Cuz you want to change the
colors. So, if you saw on mine, I think
I did the word congrats in red. So, this
is where you go and you change
everything visually for you. so that
when you go to cut it, the mat will
correspond with the colors that you want
to do. Um, and
[Applause]
then you can click on everything. I
think this I made it white. I made the
red the word congrats in HTV so that
it's all together. I didn't have to
worry about how many letters is that
eight little itty bitty letters. So, I
just did it in HTV and then ironed it
on. It was super easy. Um, grad was also
Let me go get it so you can see it.
Yeah, I can tell you
that. I did not put the straw topper on
it yet or the stick, but here it is.
It's so cute. I I do love this little
thing. Okay. Um and if you don't put,
you know, the the straw behind here to
put it as a cake topper, um like I said,
you don't have to use it as a cake
topper. I think it's cute as like a
photo prop or just make it bigger as a
sign, but okay. So, um the letters G R A
D. I have it in white. And this is what
I would just do so that like I said when
it goes to the cutting mat, it's just so
much easier to remember what colors you
want to do. Um, all the stars I did them
kept them in gold. This first layer I
did in
red and then the second layer I did in
white and then you know what? I did one
more layer after that and that I did put
in here. So you just want to grab
everything and do an
offset. And I believe I did the offset
at point 07. So apply. I like the
sharper
edges. And click apply. And that layer I
did it in black. So there you have it.
You've got your That's how you do it.
Now if you want to recreate this from
scratch with me, I will show you how to
do that right now. Okay. So, I will
Let's move all these. Let's move her
image up so that it's all there ready to
go. Um, I'm going to delete this
one. And we've got everything here. So,
I'm just going to move this so that it's
easier to recreate. Okay. Okay. So, the
first thing is I always like to go into
the images like the image library and I
put um I think I just put
graduation. Okay. Oops. It would help if
I spelled it
correctly. Um okay, so
graduation and then you know I looked
and see what if there's anything that
can get me started. So hopefully I can
refind this image and if not I can show
you how to find it. Um but there's just
so many different things that you can
that can get you started instead of
starting from scratch scratch.
So all right I can't find it but it this
will be easy to do
because I do
think okay so this is the original
image. Hopefully it will get me there.
I'm going to
um Oh, no. It's not in there
anymore. I wonder if I can
find
Okay, if you right click on it. Oh, it
does. Okay. So, this little banner was
part of the thing. So, I'm going to go
to image info. I'll show you what it
started out as.
So, oh
no, now I have to find. Okay, what did I
This is This is not helping me. Let's go
to images and let's just type in
congrats, Brad, and see if I can find
it. So, you can see there's so many
options. And like I said, I love just
having a little bit of a head start
instead of doing it totally from
scratch. All
right.
I can't believe I can't find
it. And if I can't find it, it's going
to be a struggle to to really recreate
this without that image. I mean, we can
do it. Um, but I don't know if I'll be
able to find the right font and
everything.
[Music]
Um, I'm really
surprised. I really don't see it. And I
want to find it. Let me see if there's
any other way I can find
this. Let me try this again. This one
doesn't have it.
That should be a pound
sign. Maybe this
will There it is. Oh my gosh. Okay, so
I'm going to add
this. Um, this is what it looks like.
This is what got me started. I thought
it was so cute. Um, but I'll tell you
why I messed with it. So, I went from
this to this. Very little changes. I
wanted to add a picture because a lot of
you guys on the live asked for pictures.
So, I knew I didn't want the cap
attached to it. Uh, cuz I wanted the cap
to be on the picture. I don't love like
stencils. So, this to me is like a
stencil u font. So, I wanted to change
that. Other than that, I thought
everything else was cute. So, this is
what I did with it. So, let's look at
this and just make it a little bit
bigger. All right, we're going
to ungroup it so that we kind of mess
with everything. So, first thing is
here's this little guy. I didn't like
this font. I just want this banner. I'm
going to contour it and hide
all. So, here is
that.
[Music]
Um, I didn't want this hat here, right?
So, what I did was let's bring in a
shape. Let's bring
[Music]
in and I'm going to make this a
different color just so that there's a
contrast and we can kind of see what's
going
on. Oh, actually this is not what I did.
Hold on. Because I liked everything in
gold, I just deleted the black. Okay,
because we can do a contour anytime.
So, let me move this up so we can see
the we can see the whole
thing. Okay, so I have my you can see
what it starts to look like, right? And
then in the text,
um I don't remember what text I used,
but I will
just copy and duplicate that.
way up there. Okay, so this text, let's
look at the text. It
is it's called
Corbel. Um, and it's a Cricut font. So,
I'm going to get rid of that.
Corbell, it's a It's summer. It's a hot
mess at my house. Playd date, dogs, food
delivery. Okay, let's go in here and you
can search Quell. And there it
is. Okay, so here's the tax. And I had
it congrats in all
caps. And I just want to fit it in here
for
now. And we can go to this. You can see
I made this a little bit thicker. So
what you want to do is you want to
unlock the image and you want to keep
the shape. You just want to make it um
taller. Okay. So there we have that.
Um oh I lost my stars on the side over
here. I think I lost that in the image.
I'm just going to pretend that it
didn't. I must have deleted it without
noticing. I can't get that last. We're
going to
cop copy it and paste it. And I lost
that little star, but that's a minor
part of this design. Okay. So, here is
just pretend it's there. Okay. The next
thing is um to me this little circle
with the lots of cuts. I feel like that
is what is typically um like a given out
like as a ribbon award. So, it's in
shapes. Here it is. So, I'm just going
to add it down here. And I kind of
wanted it here. Kind of messing with the
size. I still don't even know what size
this is. But all I'm doing right now is
making sure that this little ribbon
metal circle thingy is um the is
proportionate to the size of this. So, I
think it is. Maybe make it a little bit
smaller if you want. Okay, so that's all
I had so far, right? And this was my
image of Charlotte. So, I'm just going
to copy it and drop it down
here.
So, that's my image of her, right? And
then now I'm going to go into images and
I want my graduation cap.
I might just have to pick one because I
don't remember which one that is.
Um, it has a little um like widow's peak
in the
front. And then I didn't want the tassel
because if you remember, I created my
own tassel like of ribbon of thread and
I kind of wanted that to be more
realistic looking. So,
um, so let's find. So, I I think I chose
this cap actually. And what I did was
let's just move this down here. I'm
going to slice that off. Okay. So, I'm
going to bring
in just a square. And again, I'm going
to change the color just so that I have
a contrasting color so I can see the
difference between the two. Now, I'm
going to rotate this a little bit. And I
want it parallel.
to my
cap.
[Music]
And I think that's parallel. I'm going
to use my arrow key and move it
up. And I think that's about right. I'm
going to Oops. Okay. Let me go up a
little bit more and move it over.
Okay. Now, I'm going to grab these two
items and I'm going to
slice. So, it's not
perfect, but now the cap looks pretty
good, right? And then all I need to do
is go to contour and remove this little
island. And now I have my cap. So, I'm
going to delete all of
this. I've got a cap without the tassel.
And I just need to make sure that it's
the right size that I want
it. That's it. Right. You can tilt. You
want because I'm going to do the offset
soon. I You want to make sure that you
have the cap exactly how you want it.
All your elements. Okay. And then we're
going to grab this. I'm just going to
bring it down a little bit. And we're
going to do our first
offset. It's
0.07. I want it sharp. I want to apply.
So, it's not 007. The reason why I know
this is because I'm going to make this
bigger so that you can
see. Okay. Um, I'm going to make it even
a little bit bigger. And we're going to
move this over. Let's create that
offset. And I'm going to go back to 007
and tell you why I didn't choose
007. Okay. Why is it not
moving? Let's see if it will update at
this point. Okay. No, it's not.
Okay. At 0.05, you see how the there's a
space right here? I kind of want to grab
to be one full piece. Like so. Um, I
didn't want these gaps in between. So,
I'm just going to keep making it a
little bit bigger. I think I chose
0085, which I'm really close right now.
So
see maybe maybe I did 0.1. Let's do
0.1. Okay. So at 0.1 I want to make it
sharp. It's good. Let's click apply.
Okay. What you can do is I have all
these little shapes filled in. You could
just go to contour and easily hide all
and see. Now it's going to be a complete
black, which I kind of like for this for
this project. All right. I'm changing
that to red to match what I had.
[Music]
Then I didn't do this right. Hold
on. Let's delete that for a second.
Start start over for a minute here. Um I
need to offset my photo. So I'm going to
do an
offset. So hold. I'm going to get rid of
this for now.
We're going to
do an offset
007. Okay. Um I did my first one in
white. And it's not going to be print
and cut. It's going to be basic cut
because it's just a
shape. Okay. So, here's my white. I'm
going to do it again. Oops.
Offset. And that's going to be red. this
time. And then one more offset is going
to
be black. So, I'm going to click
offset, apply, and that's going to be
black.
Okay.
Um, you guys are just going to love me.
I only did two offsets on this, so I'm
going to delete that. And this
one, because I did a red offset, this
red I actually did in black. I know. I
have it all right here. Okay. Now, I'm
going to move this
over like so. Move this cap over
like this. Now, I'm going to grab
everything and do an offset. So, my
first offset of the total cake
topper, I'm going to go to
0.1. Apply. This is going to be in red.
And I'm going to go to contour because I
want to fill in all those spaces. I'm
going to click hide all. I'm gonna get
this. Okay. Then, oh, I didn't like
that. Hold on. Let's delete
that. Um, I didn't like it because, hold
on, let me undo it real quick. I didn't
like the way this offset cut off my hat
a little bit. So, I think I know what it
is. I'm going to delete it. I'm going to
redo this offset.
I'm kind of glad all these mistakes are
happening so that you could see whether
or not you like it. Let's go to the
rounded corner. Okay. It's so weird that
it's doing that because it didn't do
that on my original
one. Okay. I'm going to go to the
rounded and I'm going to
do seven. Let's see what that looks
like.
I'm going to try
0.08. I guess I need to do 0.1. Okay.
Okay. So, I'm going to
apply keep it in black. Go to
contour and hide all. The other day it
let me do less than
0.1. I don't know what's going on cuz
this is so rounded right here and I
don't love that. But I didn't like the
pointed shape either. So, let's um All
right. So, my first color I did in
red. And I did, if you remember, this is
HTV. So, it is also red, but not the
same red. So, I'm going to click because
it's a different material. For now, I'm
just going to click it to be a different
color so that you could see it. This is
in white as well as this. So, I'm
grabbing all these, changing it to
white. Okay. Then I'm going to grab this
whole thing and do another offset. And
this offset doesn't need to be as thick.
I can go to 7 now. Oops.
0.07. There we go. And apply. If you
don't like this little open area right
here, you can go to
contour, hide
this, and this one is going to be in
white. And then I did one more
offset and that's in
black. So pretty easy, right? If you
want to like if you want the three
layers and then you want to stick the
straw behind this black layer, I might
cut two black layers just so that that
way the back is totally flat and you
don't see the straw at all. Um, and
that's all that there is to it. So, I
hope that was helpful and just uh click
that subscribe button and see what other
videos I have. All right, bye.
