Are you having an issue with your dishwasher? If it won't drain or it smells funny after you run a cycle, you could have an issue in your filter. Many people aren't even aware their dish washer has a filter. This video shows how to locate and clean a filter.

Welcome back guys it's the Tightwad and today we're working on our dishwasher.
Have you ever had an issue where your dishwasher didn't quite drain correctly
or maybe there was still a funky smell after the cycle is run? I'm gonna show
you today how to fix that. We just finished a load this morning and it had
a little bit of a funky smell to it so I'm gonna go ahead and pull out the
bottom rack and move it out of the way. Different manufacturers are set up
differently. Some of them have a piece that runs from here all the way at the
back of your dishwasher and then comes to where my top spout is here. This one
actually has those tubes inside the wall of the dishwasher so you may have to
remove a little bit more than I'm doing today. I'm gonna start by removing this
piece right here. This is the piece that spins around and sprays the water
everywhere and you can see on mine it has a clip on each side so I can just
reach under here and pull this clip out and that lifts right off. Now we're left
with this piece here and this one lifts up and turns and then it lifts out. So we
can see we have some junk built up down in there. We do pre-rinse our dishes but
we don't completely wash them so there's other things that are left on the dishes
that end up accumulating down in here. A lot of times people leave stickers on
dishes before washing them for the first time and the stickers end up down in
here and that's actually the number one thing that clogs up the bottom of
dishwashers. So this whole piece on mine lifts out and you can also check down in
here to make sure there's no buildup in here as well. I may need to get a paper
towel down in here and wipe up some of that also. I just brought this piece over
to the sink. I'm gonna remove some of that stuff by hand and then I'm gonna
rinse it. There's a screen around the outside I'm gonna rinse from the bottom
side and it should release all of that gunk and it should go right down the
drain or you can put your strainer in if you have a little bit heavier load in
here to catch some of the stuff so you can throw it away. With everything
cleaned up it's time to reassemble. So this part goes in first. This piece here
goes over the hole in the back side of mine so it goes in with this piece on
the back and this piece also in the back and it just slides right down. Make sure
it has a nice tight fit and then this piece slides in. So start with this one
at about 10 o'clock and then rotate it back to the front and you should feel it
lock into place. And then this piece goes right down on top and you just give it a
little push to re-engage those clips and then go ahead and give it a spin to
make sure it spins freely. While we're in here I'll tell you what a couple other
things are. This is what sprays the water upward onto the dishes. There's another
one at the top that sprays water down. This is your heating element that helps
with drying so if your dishwasher is not drying you can replace this heating
element fairly easily. This is the float to tell it when there's enough water in
here to get started. So this piece floats up and down as you wash your dishes. So
now I'm going to get my dishwasher reassembled, wash this load again and
we'll have a nice fresh smelling smoothly draining dishwasher. If you're
